I think the biggest risk is that your backup is, say, five days old when used. You then restore your backup which is subsequently out of sync with what you have subsequently sent to the cloud.  It would be interesting to know what happens if you have two copies of some notes.  Ideally you'll see conflicting notes so you can choose which version to retain.

I'm afraid you won't see conflicting notes since the note id's are different...

It used to be easy (with earlier versions of Evernote) to select a tag and then search only within those notes for a certain item.

This is still possible (at least on the latest windows client): select a tag in the left pane and then enter your search string.

Of course you can also specify the tag in your search string: "tag:XYZ  abcd"  or you can do a AI search

Well,  the PDF-file still not indexed I uploaded a week ago.   And the funny thing is that it's working perfectly fine in EN 6.x  legacy.  I still have both versions  on 2 Windows virtual machines and EN for Mac.

Are you a free user? (Indexed)  PDF search isn’t supported on a free plan (in V10)

Free legacy was able to search in searchable PDFs, but this was more a bug they weren’t aware of: officially it was never supported.

Well, my holistic answer would be "the energy" of Bending Spoons is better. They give me the impression of being more engaged, more serieus, more result oriented, more ambitious moving forward. People who know me a bit, know I want above all (for my GTD/TSW methods, which promoted Evernote as the go-to-tool, which you now cannot do. See my post of today in

The above seems contradictory to me liking their focus on new futuristic/competitive features. I think however their different focus is needed for a strong and growing Evernote.

It seems they also dare to make more mistakes. It does hurt my trust that data got damaged or lost multiple times for me, on the other hand, being too cautious holds you back on an innovative level. They are clearly learning the product, the dangers, the risks. This is good.

If they deliver my missed features, and would also introduce Microsoft Loop like functionality, which is basically the same as Notions synced-sections, then I'll voluntarily double my subscription fees, as a figure of speech, or stick around with a smile when they raise/double my price again.

I trust they will do things like Notion-synced-sections and add the missing GTD/TSW features, because it is the logical thing to do and not that expensive and there is an important community using Evernote this why. Why important? People that organize their work this way in Evernote most of the times think in value and have money and are willing to pay for that value.

Oh, finally and important to me, the new Evernote/BS communicates a lot more that the old, via the likes of @Federico Simionato

Summarizing: I felt the old Evernote was to conservative. Too careful. Too slow. Too silent. I experienced them zombie-like, compared to the above "energy" I feel. I think the old Evernote would sleepwalk into a canyon eventually.

Yes, the new team has the agility of a small indie team backed by BendingSpoon's resources. This makes it a big winner!

Thanks a lot for your and the efforts of your entire team and for your transparency. Over the last few months there was more progress than in all the years before, regarding performance and stability.

Completely agree, the very agile development process combined with transparent and continuous communication with the community is a real winner 👍👍👍

Ten days being a paid subscriber, two problems:

    1) E-mail forwarding not working anymore (it was working during the trial period)

    2) "Syncing temporarily paused" appearing frequently since yesterday.

    10.62.5-mac-mas-public (20230928204806)
    Editor: v176.13.0
    Service: v1.74.5

When the app works, it's wonderful. But if basic elements don't work, it gets complicated... I almost 100% regretted paying for the whole year.

    Screenshot 2023-10-04 at 12.04.02.png

I've had it frequently on my Windows client last days, and it's even permanent today. Is this a known problem on version 10.63.2  @Federico Simionato ?

Yes, and where would the links point ?

To the UUID of the original note ? To an exported file, in a folder ? Relative or absolute path ?

If one wants to keep the notes and the attachments, there is HTML, and there is ENEX. I don’t think it is necessary to make out of a simple „export to pdf“ a proof of concept for a deep data structure, just to build a third attachment proof export format.

Yes, it should be another folder as a relative path. But I agree, that should be covered by the HTML export. Unfortunately there is still an open issue with hyperlinks (for years now), that's why I wrote my own enex to html converter, it supports :

    • working hyperlinks (not working in V10 HTML export)
    • relative note links to other html notes (not working in V10 HTML export)
    • backlinks to notes (in progress)
    • all image types are embedded or navigable, also tiff etc (not working in V10 HTML export)
    • same image sizes as in note (not working in V10 HTML export)
    • all note info is shown in info table (not working in V10 HTML export)
      • create and update time
      • source
      • location, full address where the note has been created and corresponding URL to google maps (not even working in the V10 desktop  clients)
      • tags list, starting with '#' to allow search for specific tags
    • encrypted text decrypted with pw
    • dark theme option (in progress)
    • very compact and readable HTML:  a single line note is converted to 1 KB HTML while this takes 355 KB in V10 HTML !!!

My converter generates a report about enex file consistency problems such as Untitled notes etc

The result is a folder structure containing html notes and it's resources, similar as the V10 HTML export folder with that difference that notes may link to each other and their attachments. So it acts as a mini website on your local disk, or you can even host it on your private server if you like...

A pdf is a format that doesn’t support „wrapped“ files inside of it. When the note (which is sort of a small website) is converted into a pdf, it can’t hold another pdf. It will show a pdf symbol, but nothing is behind it.

maybe no "wrapped" files but the pdf format does support hyperlinks to other documents

Hmm, well, that's exactly what I'm seeing (as I tried to explain). I press the arrow enough times to get it to the desired note, and after a couple of seconds that note is highlighted in the list and displayed on the right. It's just happening a lot slower than I'm used to.

this is indeed what I see now, but before it was different, every single arrow click was instantly highlighted in the list (without waiting for note loading), so you could type many notes ahead and see it stepping through the list,  no need to press blindly the arrow enough times in the hope it will finally arrive at the proper note

This is not what I'm seeing, actually (on Windows). I can press the down arrow key say 4 times and it will slowly move to and display the note that is 4th down the list (without settling on or displaying the ones in between). If I want to move to the next note with one down arrow, look at it, then do the same for the next note, that is indeed slow, but it does respond to the number of arrow key presses.

As I tried to explain, this is different behaviour than before when you could scroll ahead, no counting needed, you just clicked the arrow key very fast to the desired note and then wait until loaded.

I am seeing an overall slowness in note loading with 10.63.1 on a Mac.  Similar to, but not quite as bad, as the RTE note conversion delay that occurs with older notes.

Yeah, but when we had huge RTE delays before, it didn't affect the scrolling through the list, you just could scroll ahead to the required note and then wait until it was loaded completely.

Technical support is a paid feature. Maybe someone who has a plan and is having the problem can submit a ticket. They may want to see the untitled note exports.

It's definitely a bug. If they tried to fix it, I don't think they would need the export of the untitled notes, but the note itself.

But I'm tired of submitting tickets that never get resolved. If they tell me they are seriously considering fixing it, I can provide a problem note. Then they should be able to solve it within 5 minutes.

I'm signed into my account on a new tablet.  When I create notes on it, they are not showing up on my desktop.  When I open the notebook on my desktop, the note created on the tablet seems to disappear.

Are you sure you didn't accidentally create a new account on your new tablet instead of logging into your existing account?

    I just seasrched for

notes tagged with $current updated in last 5 days

    AND

notes tagged with $current about buying

and got the notes I expected. So I think tagging the notes you want it to search may be possible.

have you already tried to set an AI search sandbox first by selecting the tag in the left side bar and then search for a specific topic? Do the 8 notes belong to the tag then (if they are shown)?

Is there a way to tell it what 8 posts to prioritize? I have a couple major summary notes that link to hundreds of other notes, and those would be the most useful to train it on.

This would be possible if you could constrain the AI search to a specific tag or notebook, specified in the search string or selected in the side bar before searching.

I don't have specific reproducible steps, but my experience with data loss in recent months involved trying to open a pdf embedded into an older note and having Evernote occasionally "eat" the pdf. I have also seen some posts of people losing text added to a new (or newly edited) note (while the app continued to claim "All changes saved" in the lower-right). Hopefully both of these issues are fixed. 🙏

Thanks, but my question was more directed to Federico. Now that they've found the problem, maybe they can describe more precisely the circumstances under which it went wrong?

I exported your note to PDF with numbering intact. I don't see the problem ? Which pdf viewer do you use?

edit: Sorry, I was mislead by the message that all numbers were zero, this is not the case (anymore) but your issue is that the last number is wrong (3 instead of 4). I can reproduce that too. So there is still a problem with numbering...

Thanks for the mention of Directory Opus @eric99: my renewal for Copernic is coming up and Directory Opus sounds like a better full-text search app!

FYI, I will be testing Joplin Cloud soon to see if the test notes I have exported from EN Legacy to Joplin will sync properly to the Joplin App! If all works fine, I will export all from Legacy, test  again ... and hopefully break the cord!

It was CalS' idea for Directory Opus, he's the expert...
