Also don't forget that on the desktop clients (and maybe others)  you can drag the position of the shortcuts around e.g you might always want this special shotcut at the top of the list. On the desktop clients you can also access the first 9 shortcuts using the keyboard shortcut ctrl+1 up to ctrl+9 (on Windows)

or you can select it directly from within the search list

A completely different solution might be AHK (AutoHotKey) or a similar scripting tool to generate the search string with one key click. https://www.autohotkey.com/

I was restructuring my notes the other day (thousands) and the 50 note limit message popped up. It got me very scared. For me it’s a classic scenario when I decide that a bunch of tags deserve their dedicated notebook. it’s a good thing the legacy version is still around, and in fact I keep the last old version on a second computer so when the time comes I will be able to migrate out of evernote with limited pains.
I must say that v10 2 years on is fairly stable, on the Mac, but still  slow as hell. The iOS version is still unusable.

The 50 note limit was introduced to 'hide' the poor performance. For me, a poor performance is still better than the 50 note limit though.  I've also the impression that EN doesn't use the available resources to speed it up: my PC has 16 GB of ram and half of it is left unused).

    Duplication is an ongoing issue.

I think it should be reported to support, including an activity log. The more they receive, the better to isolate root causes. I think there are several hidden factors.

In general keeping notes short (and if they grow splitting them up) is one of the possible countermeasures for users.

in my case, I just started a new note and had written about 10 lines, when I noticed that there were already 4 duplicates (as I said no other EN clients were opened at that time)

Ever since V10 came along and dis-allowed local notebooks I save a good portion of my docs as encrypted PDF’s.  I then import those docs into Evernote using an import folder.   I am still a legacy user on Windows 10, however I also use the current iPhone app.

When I open the iPhone app to view an encrypted file I type in the password and I can view as expected. Works great.

My question:  When I am viewing that PDF inside of Evernote is it safe from prying eyes or can it be captured in some way?

I don't think that there is a real risk that the pdf file will be written back as long as you don't use a pdf reader which is capable to make changes in the file. I use the free Adobe Acrobat Reader to decrypt and this tool will never write back to the original file location.

just the links in the HTML page for whatever reasons do not work.

I do know the reason, and I  fixed it in an exported document just for testing, it's only a matter of a few lines HTML code (href or onclick event). I don't understand why they still haven't fixed it (after 6 months already)

This works on the v10 desktop clients:

Export a note: Open the note, open note menu (3 dots top right), select export, choose ENEX or HTML.

Export several notes: Select them in the notes list, from the blue popup menu choose 3 dots, select export, choose ENEX, one or several webpages (HTML). A maximum of 50 notes can be selected.

Export a complete notebook (independent from note count): Click on the notebook, select 3 dots above of the note list, select export notebook, choose ENEX, one or several webpages

With a Professional or Teams subscription you can export as well to pdf. On Personal, this works for single notes only.

It should be noted that there is still a blocking unresolved bug: attachments are inaccessible from within the exported HTML (or PDF)

    Boolean searches:

If the feature is not really needed, why bother to implement it and anounce it at the top of the list? Why restrict it to top tier account?

As for examples of searches that benefit from boolean search, I will not delve into it but just imagine I need to collect those notes with words  (A and B ) or (A and C), but not those with (A and B and C). When you've got thousands of notes and want to have a precise group to work with, it comes handy. If can also be done searching for (A and B), tagging them with X, then tagging also (A + C), then do a search with that new tag plus the exclussion of (A + B + C ), but it's cumbersome.

We used to do that, on the assumption that the search engine could not help us for efficiency issues. But now we learn that it is possible, but only if you upgrade. Well, we will not upgrade, in fact some people are thinking about downgrading.

Unfortunately, even migrating has been made more difficult by limiting the number of notes you can export to an Enex file to 50 (Something that has been quietly done and little publicised - maybe it should be advertised as another marvellous feature).

All in all, I see little space for improvement, its as if EN had lost its way.

I've never understood why EN had such an awkward search syntax concerning boolean search. The intuitive new Boolean search should have been part of it from the very beginning.

  8. A database should always be protected against accidental deletion

Assume you have a note with many attachments. If you (or your family) clicks an attachment and accidentally click the delete button, the attachment is gone without any warning.  Since there are many attachments, you may not notice that it disappeared and you will not look in your history for the previous version!

For that reason I'm big fan of read-only mode.

Here's the thing @mnzau - EN didn't lose it's way, it change direction. It was intentional. V10 is a fundamentally different product than Legacy. Don't expect it to work the same. It just looks similar and works similarly on the user end. The back end is all new and different. Their goal appears to be having as many users as possible on the most stable and simple system. Outlying issues/abandoned features/power users aren't important enough to address. I've tried.

v10 is broken for me. I liked Legacy just fine, but they'll cut people off eventually (and the old version of the android app has been painful for a while). I knew it would take me quite a bit of effort to make a switch (11 years of data and 22k+ notes). I finally chose a program months ago, but it took me a while to learn enough about it, weed out some old notes, prep my data for export and figure out how to import into the new program. Two months in, I'm still learning, rethinking workflows, tweaking some broken links and adjusting, but I'm glad to have escaped. I will never again lose data because EN (v10) failed to sync!

I don't mean to be mysterious. I chose Obsidian. It was a tough choice. It doesn't work quite like EN (current or past versions). It's also not as user friendly for the casual user. In reality, it's highly flexible (though I don't understand how to implement some of the more advanced plugins). What I like is that it can be tweaked to be very similar to my ideal EN experience and the data is in a future proof format. At this point I'm still referring to EN for older historical data, but that will decrease as time goes on. I was never going to have a clean break, no matter what I chose.

Obsidian is an electron app too 😞

I prefer the html export from the Evernote Legacy product
It generates a much simpler code structure

I exported an empty note, just a single word title, no images, no text body. The HTML document has a size of 256 KB !!!

That's one of the reasons that I hope that EN will finally  look at their superior legacy HTML export for windows. It's not only much much smaller in size, but attachments links do work, which is still an unresolved issue in V10 after 5 months !  Somebody stated on this forum that  HTML export can be written much easier today with powerful and fancy tools 😏

The least we can say is that the HTML size is in line with the Electron size 😉

how do you resized a picture using paint in evernote?  it worked before --- to many changes or updates making this software not user friendly anymore..... :(

I don't know about paint but it does work with IrfanView. I don't see a reason why it shouldn't work with paint, have you saved the result explicitly before leaving paint?

I couldn't say why they is a limit of 50 versions but I can't imagine why that would be a significant limitation. I rarely have need to go back more than two versions.

Because this limit may be reached sooner than you expect: every insignificant change can cause a new version: for instance temporarily changing the view type of a pdf document is sufficient to store a new version..

No, not solved. The files are there and can be opened from the export folder without a problem - but the file attachment icon does nothing. When I click on exported pictures, there is a link behind them. No such link behind the attachment icon. However it changes the cursor when moving over it to indicate there is a link behind the icon.

Just send a reminder through a support ticket ...

This HTML Export problem is still not solved in V10.22.3 (Ticket 3309909) . I can't believe that adding a few lines of HTML code ( href  or OnClick event) takes more than 5 months to fix 😕 This renders the HTML export completely useless...

Search is by design only finding text at the beginning of a word.

This is in EN since long, nothing new here with v10.

If you want to find stuff independently from searching for words, start to use tags.

There is one exception: EN does find sub-strings in Titles

Edit: even in titles it doesn't always work as expected.

We are talking to use the „Export as pdf“ on a single note, to get around the still very basic printing options of v10.

An export option „as pdf“ for a complete notebook is available for Professional and Teams subscriptions. Since pdf export for a notebook did not exist in legacy, this is one of these new features used to upsell the new plans.

Hopefully, pdf "export" for a notebook is a full export,  attachments included. Any experience with that already?

Thanks for sharing. This corresponds with my experience - my use has shifted a lot to v10 over the last months. Big points were the introduction of the import folders to the Mac and the improved pdf export as well.

Yes, since the pdf export has been improved, I  use now for small documents the elegant agile EN editor which I prefer above the bloated MS Word that always distracts me from my actual writing.

The only pdf export improvement I would really like is inlining of attached pdf files.
