OK, so I found the solution to this. It conflicts with the shortcut for the built in screen capture tool. It is described here:

I have just installed Skitch for Mac on a new computer. It has a super annoying behaviour, that I don't understand how I can get rid of. When I press Shift-Command-5 to capture the screen, I am presented with this first view, with a menu that I don't recognize. It is only after I click the mouse that I get to the second view, which is where I want to be. On my other computer, I get directly to the second view. My question is, how to do I configure Skitch so that I get straight to the second view without first getting to the first?
