Amazing Android app performance in 2022
rimboma replied to rimboma's topic in Evernote General Discussions
Logs: Why bother? I can send it to you, if you are curious, of course. But officially... As a free user I have never received a proper feedback. I was about to buy premium in 2021 but Evernote cared to give me a nice warning of things to come just in time. And BTW, have you seen the Play store ratings? Right now Evernote is hands down the lowest rated app I keep using. -
Amazing Android app performance in 2022
rimboma replied to rimboma's topic in Evernote General Discussions
In all my 10 years of using Evernote I have yet to see a smartphone-specific performance issue. I also have "the comfort" of having access to around 4-6 phones of different brands and Android ROM-s. Enough said, I don't waste my time reporting bugs anymore. My phone is Xiaomi Redmi Note 8T 4GB variant with a freshly installed MIUI 12.5 (official) without backup restore. I never restore old backups. -
Yep... To put things into perspective: Evernote now performs slower than on the cheapest Windows Phone 7 barely-smartphone with 512 MB of RAM. Hell. Even using my Fastmail email client (which itself is a web app in a wrapper!) drafts works better for note taking. To be honest I wouldn't think topping already bad performance in 2021 was even possible. Do you guys actively pursue it? Do you hold in-house contests aimed at that or something?

How to stop upgrade prompts?
rimboma replied to joshevernote's topic in Evernote General Discussions
Evernote is blazingly fast. I mean, the note editor shows up instantly. Hence we have lots of processing power to spare and that banner that pops up 3 times per day, causing the entire UI to shift shouldn't be a problem... -
Anyone else fee that Evernote has lost its way?

Anyone else fee that Evernote has lost its way?
rimboma replied to mnzau's topic in Evernote General Discussions
At this point most of you guys are so out of touch, dishing out stellar wishes left and right, having an app at hand taking like 10 seconds to display basic content! I fell into the "Windows Phone doesn't need high-end phones to run smoothly" scam once and bought a budget phone. I literally upgraded to a high-end Windows Phone to have actual non-MS apps smooth and snappy, including Evernote. Almost 10 years later Evernote on my Redmi Note 8T is as SLOW as it was on that budget Windows Phone! An app that mainly handles freaking text! So, dear Evernote... You know what you can do with those "upgrade to premium" banners. At this point you should be happy a massive exodus hasn't started yet. @tonychung Keep dreaming -
For how long have I been stuck?! I've only just discovered the v10 has been released. Is this a known issue or an anomaly?
-
I've just been offered a 7 day trial period. Here's the funny thing. It happened on the day I set up my new phone so I'll still won't be able to tell the difference 🙂 In any case I still suspect the "Templates" element of the note body to be the main offender in slowing down the new note readiness.

The reasons I'm asking: 1. The -40% promo is available only for annual subscriptions. 2. I'd like to test the influence of the offline storage on performance in two particular scenarios I use tens of times a day.
-
I'm tempted to finally try the Plus subscription but I'd like a month-long test drive first, since you do not offer proportional partial refunds. Is this possible somehow? Related material https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/articles/115010561808-Evernote-Refund-Policy

Incomprehensible note locks

No one is arguing against that -
Incomprehensible note locks
rimboma replied to Cyroxian's topic in Evernote for Android Issues (Versions 8.13.3 and under)
@gazumped Your reply surprises me. I've been using the living hell out of Evernote for Android with inherent connectivity problems on my phone (2 GB of RAM, Android 7). Affected were Both, mobile data and WiFi. Even with an insidious bug where lack of connectivity wouldn't be reported to the device (all indicators keep showing connection present). And with that junk of a phone I've never experienced an issue with data loss or note lockout. The app stores a new note perfectly safe for however long it needs until connectivity is restored. He'll, it will do so even through a phone reboot. The only note loss possible is with using the Evernote widget. Which is a real trap, frankly speaking. While we're at it, let me remind that Evernote web (at least the old one) is almost guaranteed to delete a note or partially delete note information when on quirky connection. Which also should NOT happen. But it does. -
Firefox support for new web version updates
rimboma replied to ever_coffee's topic in Web Client Issues
Just noticed it. Few important words of clarification, especially intended for general public not familiar with web technologies: 1. The part about Gecko may make it look like Gecko is some technological cruft that Firefox intends to rely on. Firefox is well in the process of replacing vital parts of under-the-hood components with Servo, a very modern and efficient system, under the Quantum project. 2. It was the Evernote's choice to rely on Google's WebKit, locking non-WebKit browsers (browsers not based on Chrome, essentially). 3. WebKit adoption is part of the "slow boiling the frog" process that hurts internet users in the long run. See the sources. Let me ask again. Am I the only one using Evernote on Firefox since ~2014 without any messages on incompatibility? -
I'm nowhere near the monthly limit."Pointlessly" is the key aspect here. I don't like pointless things and I'm an expert when it comes to image formats Second, we are not yet at the point where there's no difference between kilobytes and megabytes. Third, with the recent Evernote update hiatusES I'm preparing for the future ones. Cutting the note syncing time by half is going to ease the involved stress a bit.
