@tavor@SK_123 There are open source migration tools available to convert .enex files into Markdown, which can then allow those Markdown formatted notes to be imported into other note applications with the links intact. Yarle is one such open source tool available to migrate .enex files to Obsidian. I have used it to migrate .enex files into Obsidian with note links intact. However, this is not a seamless process and it requires preparation of Evernote notes before migration. E.g. EN titles cannot have special characters (like the usual unix filename restricted chars | # < > etc) and the name of the note link in Evernote must be identical to the title of the note it is linking to (that is how Obsidian matches the links. It does not match the unique URL of that link). That clean up process can be automated using 3rd party Evernote services like Filterize. So if you have renamed your EN note titles after creating the link, you can either fix that before migration or manually relink the notes in Obsidian afterwards (note linking in Obsidian is far easier than in Evernote and it has backlinks so the relinking process is easy - and it can be automated with some scripting using the sed command). Solving the issue of being able to migrate notes out of Evernote with links intact was one of the main things holding me back from leaving Evernote a few years back when the (then) new CEO, Chris O'Neill, decided that instead of giving users much needed functional improvements, he decided to focus the company on a new elephant logo and some additional shades of green for the branding (and now we have the new CEO giving us more UI candy instead of functional improvements with this pointless new dashboard). Some basic scripting knowledge is required for these migration processes but you do not need to be a genius coder.

I am betting your confirmation bias is off the charts. Check out Obsidian. That is what I am now using. I was able to migrate all my notes with tag hierarchy and note links in tact but it does require some technical/scripting knowledge. However, the pain is worth it as I now have all my notes in a non proprietary format (Markdown), never to be locked in again. Any alternative will involve compromise but, in my case, what I lost, was made up for 10x over by other features that Evernote does not, and will never provide. Notion looks good on the surface but without Markdown support I ruled it out. Good luck.

As someone who has worked as a developer through to C-level in global software dev and tech companies, my experience is that, the majority of the time, the issues that we are seeing at Evernote rarely have a root cause in the dev team ... they are usually self inflicted technical issues through poor management (software dev process - I still don't think Evernote has one, people mgmt, leadership etc) and decision making at the top. There is a reason that Chris O' Neill got the boot along with most of his execs a few years back and it wasn't because the dev team were lousy (I doubt they are). Unfortunately, Ian Small has demonstrated he too doesn't have the tech leadership chops he claims, evidenced the overwhelming backlash to v10 and the fact that support are so backlogged now that there is effectively no support at all. That's got nothing to do with squashing bugs and everything to do with knowing how to execute and resource your team properly - all things that someone in Ian Small's position should know.

That's true, but the objective ones are rare.. unfortunately these forums have been infested with the same gang of shills for years with their thousands of vacuous posts and aggressive defence of Evernote that it's nigh impossible to get any semblance of objective discussion. It's been like it for years. That's why I like to preface my posts with the trigger warning as they really struggle with anyone saying anything negative about their dysfunctional elephant. Ironically, if they weren't so defensive and a little more straight shooting, we might not all be in this mess right now.

TRIGGER WARNING FOR GURUS: This post does not represent blind support for Evernote. Like most normal users on these forums, I don't care for your self righteous, arrogant views but if you feel you need to respond to get your post count up then fill your boots. --- I really cannot believe that Evernote are proud to advise that they are working on new features (mostly which weren't asked for) when so many long time paying customers are just waiting for previous critical features to be reinstated and for some level of acceptable performance and customer support to be reinstated (you know, like not having to wait 6+ weeks to be advised that as a 10+ year Premium user, the reason that I cannot access Evernote v10 for web is because I have more than 1000 notes.) Working on new features at a time like this is just another example of the utter contempt that Evernote have for its customers.

Finally a response from support on why I still can't access v10: @iansmall should be utterly embarrassed that this is the best he can do after 2 years.

I have been an Evernote Premium subscriber for 10+ years. I have no problem paying if I get what the company represented, both in terms of product AND SERVICE. In this regard, Evernote have woefully failed of late and do not deserve any payment. I have now have multiple unresolved support tickets over a month old (include one relating to the fact that I am stuck on web v5.33 and cannot even access v10.x web). Support has simply stopped communicating for weeks despite multiple follow up emails. I am now raising tickets to ask about the status of my other open tickets. Evernote support has never been great but it has simply descended into the abyss of late. So much for Premium Support. This latest move to include web in the device limit of two is just another example of the increasing contempt that Evernote has for its current users. I think it will backfire in the long run, like most of @iansmall's decisions of late. @iansmall's latest "State of the Product" article is laughable. He should realise that the main audience likely to read that garbage are invested users like me who have a long time lived experience that prevents us swallowing the spoonfuls of placation and platitudes he is attempting to force feed us. I suspect he, and his minders, know this, which is why he now turns off comments on all his communications ... but according to his article he says "We are listening". WT... but I digress. Including the web version in the device limit is just a poor way to implement a product and will prevent new users from being able to experience all the apps which, if they were deemed valuable, would help convert the fremium user into a paid user. The only reason that the conversion rate is currently low is simply that fremium users do not see any real value in the paid product - no wonder when it has not been enhanced for 6+ years (and the competition now is a lot stronger). Making the fremium product less valuable does not make the paid product more valuable. It just cuts off the very supply of new users that might become paying users in the future. Bad for business. ... and if @iansmall really believes that tag users as such a low % of the current user base then he should be very concerned about his decision to decrease the size of the fremium funnel - there are A LOT of free note taking apps out there if tags aren't important to you and device limits are. Users simply will not even bother installing the Evernote app. Anyway, I implemented my contingency plan for the (then) inevitable demise of Evernote 3 years ago when the previous CEO Chris O'Neill ignored the needs of his Premium customers (i.e. the ones that pay him) and instead arrogantly concluded that what we really needed was a new Elephant icon and a few more shades of green in the brand. @iansmall is unfortunately on the same path of ignorance and arrogance. He asked for patience when he arrived, he got 2 years of it and then he screwed us with a downgrade masquerading as a "upgrade" (e.g. removing CMD J from the mac version speaks volumes of how out of touch they are). I have moved my family from annual to monthly payments and by April 2021 all our plans will be aligned monthly, ready to pull the ripcord to descend safely into a greener pasture if @iansmall can't join the dots by then that first platform he has to secure is one based on having happy CURRENT customers that expect to get what the brochure says ... like Premium customers getting Premium support.

@gazumped I am still stuck on v5.33 across all browsers and cannot get a reply from Evernote as to why. I saw your post and think I might be getting prevented from upgrading because I have 40K notes, the consequence of being 10+ year premium user of Evernote. Do you have any update on when/if Evernote are going to look after us paying long time paying customers and give us access to the new version?

@Paul A.I just saw in the following post that others have been advised by Evernote Support that they are stuck on v5.33 because they have "a lot of notes". That is probably the reason Evernote have not upgraded me yet as I have 40K+ notes, the consequence of being a 10+ year power user. I feel so special that Evernote look after their long time Premium customers like me. 🤔 that

@Paul A. Hmmm .. mine is showing "Evernote Web v5.33.0" on latest version of macOS Chrome "Version 87.0.4280.67 (Official Build) (x86_64). I am going to clear the cache and see if Evernote for Web reloads your version. UPDATE: I have just set up Evernote for Web on latest versions of Safari and Firefox. Both are showing v5.33.0. It looks like there is some server side setting that Evernote have set that is preventing me from getting the latest version of Evernote for Web.

I do not get these options @Alvin C. There are no 3 dots next to my tags. Only a downward chevron which you can see in the following screenshot, which then shows the contextual menu that does not have nesting options like you get. Also, If you look at the screenshot in my previous post you can see the flat list of tags on the right, yet those tags are nested when I look at them in my current Evernote for Mac v7.x. There is clearly something different about your Evernote for Web and mine.

I have searched and searched but cannot determine if Evernote for Mac v10 supports tag hierarchies (ie. Maintains the previous functionality) or has downgraded to a flat structure (which would be unworkable for me given that I have spent the last 10 years using a hierarchical tag structure in Evernote). In typical fashion, Evernote doesn't tell you much about the features that they remove between versions. The documentation around v10 is just plain woeful. Can anyone enlighten me? Also, if they have removed this functionality, do you know if it is permanent, or just removed temporarily so they could rush v10 out the door so that Ian Small could collect his bonus?

Yes @Alvin C, that's exactly what I mean, but I do not see this when I view via Evernote for Web. Refer following screenshot. I also just created a tag as a test and no option presented itself to add into a hierarchy. It just creates the tag in the flat structure as shown in the screen shot. Perhaps Evernote have rolled out different functionality in various locations? I am in Australia.

Does anyone here know if v10 supports tag hierarchies? As I mentioned in my original post, I see that Evernote for Web doesn't, and given that Evernote for Mac and Evernote for Windows are now meant to have a similar UI and feature parity, my assumption is that it doesn't. However, I just cannot confirm this as I cannot find any documentation on this. Also, if it isn't supported yet, does anyone know if this is because they just don't intend to reimplement it or they just dropped it temporarily to get v10 launched?

Agree and intend to do so. However, the annoying prompt to upgrade to v10 has now started in the legacy version so I am trying to prepare for the forthcoming forced upgrade. It's just incredible that despite the obviously significant functional downgrades in v10 (that I know of - hence my post) that Evernote are still trying to promote users upgrading. It's only because I have been burnt too many times before by Evernote that I am not another one of the poor suckers that recently upgraded to v10 thinking there is no way that Evernote would be so reckless to release such a dog of an "upgrade" (yes, it looks nice but function trumps form ALWAYS with productivity apps - Evernote should know this by now). Live and learn.

Don't you just love how Evernote continue to balls up their releases!? NOT. I have be using Evernote for over 10 years and it never ceases to amaze me how the company can cycle through so many CEOs and senior management but the culture of not giving a &%#$@# for their existing premium customers remain. Once again we have a release that is not only late by over a year (according to Ian Small's original representations) but then gets rushed out the door incomplete, not properly tested and with significant functional downgrades that are not completely explained (but the typical marketing BS around the new features is plastered everywhere to see like we really care. Well, we do, but only after we know that we have not gone backwards elsewhere). I have searched the forums and official release documentation for the best I can find is the following list (from: https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/articles/360047889214-What-s-new-in-Evernote-for-Mac), which at least admits is not exhaustive: So where is the exhaustive list so that long time users like myself can use to make an informed decision about when to make the leap into the abyss of v10? Just like others, I have no desire to upgrade when basic functionality like CMD J and tag hierarchy is not supported (well I assume it isn't but can't even confirm that, other than noting that Evernote for Web has lost tag hierarchy support. I mean, WTF!? 10 years of building a great hierarchical tag system and .. wooosh .. it's gone, without any clear communication. Please tell me I am wrong. Please.) If anyone can point me to the exhaustive list of downgrades I am going to experience when I am eventually dragged kicking and screaming onto v10, that would be wonderful. P.S. My fears are coming to reality. As a long time Evernote user, one thing they have NEVER done well is new version releases. The mind boggles as why they never learn that users don't like surprises like age old shortcuts not working. CMD J, along with all the existing keyboard shortcuts is vital for power users and anyone productivity focussed, which is what Evernote is meant to be about. Once again it appears that the people leading product development at Evernote are not really productivity power users as they should be, otherwise they would not have released this new version without this feature parity. I will be holding off leaping into the dark waters of Evernote for Mac v10 for as long as possible, or at least until I can clearly see the bottom. Such a pity that Evernote still can't do a smooth release after all these years.
