  1. I just added a tag to bunch of notes made over the past couple of years that I found by searching for a common word. Unfortunately, I did this in the latest update of V10 rather than Legacy, and all the notes now have today's date in the Updated field. (This is such a non-standard implementation that it didn't even occur to me that this might happen.)

    Any chance that we can return to the Legacy policy of NOT changing the Updated date when adding or deleting tags from notes?

    Fortunately, Legacy still works and I can correct the Updated dates for all of them there, but what a hassle!

    I think it would be sensible to be able to change the updated date but in your case why don't you just sort by created date?

    It's not the same thing. If you always sort all your notes by Updated date, you have your most recent and most frequently used notes at hand. And if you modify an old note and don't want it to show up at the top, you can (or could, rather, in Legacy) edit the Updated date to whatever date you wanted, but most logically it's original date. (It's a lot like a real-world pile of papers with your most recent notes on top. And if you pull an old page out and scribble a note on it, you can either place it on the top of the pile—the default action—or stuff it back where it was when you found it. It's a very natural way to work with information...for me.)

    If you only have the option of sorting by Created date, then your most frequently used notes (of any age) do not stay near the top, and it's a serious hassle to keep updating the Created date for those notes over and over again. So it's not really a solution for those of us who have been sorting by Updated date for all these years.

    The keyboard shortcut for "Notes" is Alt+Ctrl+2. No scrolling involved. It will work if you are on the homescreen or anywhere else within EN.

    I was already using the "Resume where I left off" option, but this is very helpful to know. Thanks!

    Still, it would be nice to have the Notes view as a Home widget option to avoid having to know and remember this shortcut. Seems like a simple thing to provide long-time, loyal users who were happy with the pre-Home screen legacy layout. That's the kind of user-friendly thing that widgets are for! 🙂

  4. I'd love to be able to land here (see image) when I open Evernote or when I click the Home button in the left column...without having to scroll down to the Notes button in the left column or to click the Notes button in the default widget. It's a small thing, but it's basically the default view I saw for 11 years as an Evernote legacy user, and it's much more productivity oriented for me than any of the current Home widgets.

    Is there a way to accomplish this with EN10?

  5. Six...no, make that seven...years on, with lots of revs and a hyoooge upgrade, we still have no way to merge notes in Evernote Web (nor in Android or iOS). This means that one has to have one of the desktop versions to do something as basic and useful as merging two or more notes.

    From Evernote's Help & Learning pages (https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/articles/209004857): "If you have individual notes that you would like to combine into a single note, you can merge them using Evernote for Mac or Windows. Note merging is not available on Evernote for iOS, Evernote for Android, or Evernote Web."

    Actually, I do see that, in the v. 10 Windows app and Web client.

    Evernote toolbar tooltip_cr.jpg

    Thanks, Dave. A tooltip appears, but it doesn't include the shortcut reminder (Ctrl+M).

    I find the reminders immensely useful and use them all the time because I have to work between different text editors, all with different shortcuts, and I sometimes have to refresh my memory for the current editor. Hovering for the reminder in v6 was quick and user-friendly, as opposed to the v10 alternative: Help > Keyboard shortcuts > scroll down...down...down to Text Formatting > Read shortcut for Indent

    Just an update....

    Here's the script I used in AutoHotKey to insert a date time stamp in the ISO8601 format.

    !d::
    FormatTime, CurrentDateTime,, yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss
    SendInput, %CurrentDateTime%
    return

    outputs >      2022-08-06 13:18:49

    where !d::  = ALT D

    I settled on "ALT D" as ALT D
    works in v10, v8, Notepad,  and MS Word.

    in v10, ALT SHIFT D inserts Date
    in v10, CTRL SHIFT D inserts Time

    CTRL ALT SHIFT D .. worked in v10 but is just too cumbersome for my fingers
    CTRL ALT D .............. v10 (I forget); opens Text Formatting in v8 (if I recall correctly);  works in Notepad.
    CTRL ALT 0 .............. does NOT work in v10;  works in v8 (CTRL ALT numpad 0/INS key)
    CTRL ALT DOWN ..... does NOT work in v10;  works in v8 (CTRL ALT down arrow)

    Evernote Windows 10.49.4 is not following my system Date/Time settings (even though the Evernote Legacy installed on the same computer DOES follow my system settings), so I had to resort to spending an hour to install AutoHotkey, learn how to use it well enough to apply Carl-L-ND's script, and troubleshoot it. Now that it works, I'm happy because I can use it in other places, too, like Gmail. So it makes me feel less pissy about Evernote not properly implementing a feature that worked fine in the Legacy version. 🙂

    In the interest of making Carl's suggestion a little clearer and easier for other non-coders, here are the steps I recommend to create your own date/time hotkey. (Black text is straight from the AutoHotkey help file. Blue is Carl-L-ND's script. Green text is mine.)

    Once you have AutoHotkey installed...
    1. Right-Click on your desktop.
    2. Find "New" in the menu.
    3. Click "AutoHotkey Script" inside the "New" menu.
    4. Give the script a new name. It must end with a .ahk extension. For example: MyScript.ahk (If you don't immediately see the .ahk file icon when you click New > AutoHotkey Script, then it's probably hidden behind another window on your screen.)
    5. Find the newly created file on your desktop and right-click it.
    6. Click "Edit Script".
    7. A window should have popped up, probably Notepad. If so, SUCCESS!
    8. Copy/paste the following into the .ahk file, either above or below the existing text:

      !d::
      FormatTime, CurrentDateTime,, yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss
      SendInput, %CurrentDateTime%
      return

    9. Save your work. (Ctrl-S)
    10. Double-click the icon or right-click > Run script
    11. Open Evernote and click in a note and select Alt-D. Your new date/time stamp should be inserted.

    Just for clarity of discussion ... was there ever a sync button? If so, in what versions of Evernote? The older version of the Windows desktop program used the F9 key, or Tools > Sync. I don't remember a button.

    It is/was available as a personalized toolbar button in the Legacy version. I've used it for many years because it definitely speeds the sync process—not by clicking it when sync is already in-progress, of course, but rather when you don't want to wait for Evernote to get around to doing its automatic sync.

    Did anybody file a bug or support ticket for this yet? I have all my notes using the original short date format and now we have this annoying long format, which makes it cluttered and also hard to parse. I tried redefining the long date format in Mac OS, but to no avail. I was able to file a support ticket (despite their best attempts to point me to useless and dead articles). Let's see what they say...

    @sfviking did your support ticket get a response?

    On Android go to settings of your device, then go to "Apps" and search for Evernote. Then click on Storage and at the very bottom is "Clear Cache". Click on it and restart your device mand Evernote. Now these missing images are rendered properly. For the moment all seems to be fine.

    This procedure resolved the problem for me. 😎👍

  11. On my Android phone the Calendar widget is not installed, but the alerts still appear. I turned them off by going to More (hamburger icon lower left) > Settings (Gear upper right) > Calendar.

    March 3, 2022 Update: Okay, so that didn't work, either. I'm still getting the notifications. I'm contacting Evernote Support now.

  12. I would like to see the new "headers" in Evernote Android v10 be corrected to be called "headings" so as not to confuse people. Surely almost all Evernote users use (at least some of the time) Word, Google Docs, Apple Pages, or even HTML, and the precedent has been set: the titles of sections within documents are called headings, not headers, as noted in the attached screenshots.

    Thanks!

    Thanks for these two references, @gazumped. I'd not heard of Filterize and it looks pretty cool (albeit a bit expensive...but maybe worth it). I will check it out.

    I don't remember receiving any notifications of the Behind the Scenes video series, so I appreciate that link, as well. I just watched a couple of them and they're well-done and informative.

    Thanks!

    On a quick scan through the thread I couldn't find anyone actually saying that - most posts here seem to be suggesting options or commenting on differences between apps.  Such differences as exist may be addressed by Evernote's current project to update and 'harmonise' the main clients.  Results due later this year...

    Thanks for responding, @gazumped-in-Wales. 😉

    In my opinion, This is not what Evernote is meant for sums up those responses pretty well.

    I stand by my point that if (to quote Dave-in-Decatur further) "Evernote's strength is its multi-device, multi-platform capability, so that I can create a note on my phone (checklist, an idea or draft, a Web page, a photo, etc.) and later view and edit it on my desktop or laptop," then cross-platform functionality should be taken seriously and not cherry-picked.

    The fact that we can't really use Evernote in Android for checklists...
    or for merging notes
    or to add time-stamps
    or to paste images into existing notes
    or resize text to have a consistent font size (if pasted from other places)
    all of which are features I need and use every day in Evernote and have to wait until I'm at my desktop client to do them, tells me that Evernote has never been really serious about being truly multi-platform.

    I'm not complaining. I like Evernote. I've had a premium account since 2011 and have almost 14,000 notes. I'm a committed user and I recommend it to people I think will benefit from it. I'm just suggesting that you're defending an aspect of the app for which there is little defense. If one is going to tout one's multi-platformness, then be multi-platform, dammit. Don't be kind of multi-platform.

    I, for one, am looking forward to the forthcoming Harmonized Edition. (First time I've heard of it, btw, so thanks for that ray of hope.)

    Okay, I'll get off my high horse now. Have a nice...uh...Saturday morning! 🌤️

  15. The argument that "this is not what Evernote is meant for" is negated by the fact that what is being requested has been a feature in the Windows app for a long time. The correct response should be, "Sorry, but Evernote is not meant to be a fully cross-platform application."

    Thank you, @Simon Wheatley, for posting the best Android-friendly workaround to this Evernote half-feature:

    This is how I clear all checkboxes:

    Select all

    Turn off checkbox formatting

    Turn on checkbox formatting

    My list is now all unchecked

    It it wasn't a pure list, e.g. if there were paragraphs in between checkboxes, then I suspect the paragraphs would end up with checkboxes.

    It's not a complete solution, as it can be kludgey for long lists, but it does work.

    And, actually, you don't have to Select All. You can select only a few items in a list and toggle them off (by clicking the check-box button, which removes the check-boxes completely) and then toggling them back on again.

    Thanks for reporting this. We've got some other reports about this issue this week. It seems that this is isolated to Chrome beta versions 75 and 76. Our development team is currently investigating the root cause to determine the best way to correct this issue.

    Would the issues with Chrome be responsible for the screenshot function of Webclipper shifting the output of all clipped images up and to the left? The web clipper screenshot feature is working for me in Firefox, but in Chrome it is not capturing the area I select. For example, this is the area I selected using Webclipper:

    and this is the resulting output:

  17. I would LOVE this feature, especially since the Web Clipper on Android does not note the URL of the page it's clipping from when only clipping a passage from a longer page. It would be great to be able to Copy the passage, clip the page to Evernote, and then copy the clipped passage into that note. (Of course, it would be even easier if the clipped note recorded the source URL, like it does in Windows browsers. Also I often annotate my clipped notes with comments in the Chrome version, so it would be very helpful to be able to do this on mobile, too.
