EN 7 supported the built in MacOS Services menu within the app, but it is missing in EN 10. Please bring it back.

Why: The Services Menu is a simple way to integrate system wide services with Evernote, such as Dictionary Lookup, search with Google, etc. but also user installed Services, such as the WordServices package from Devonthink with lots of text cleanup functions, texts statistics (word count, etc), and many other useful integrations. It is even possible to wrap Applescripts and Automator actions as Services. Furthermore, all Services can be assigned a keyboard shortcut for even easier use. All these posssibilities are gone from this version.

While I also lament the missing Applescript support, I think this would be a much simpler way to implement some measure of system integration.

Of note, I am not talking about adding an Evernote Service available for other apps, but of the addition of Services as a submenu under the Evernote app menu, optimally also as a contextual menu. A Send to Evernote Service available for other apps would of course also be beneficial.

I am beginning to find 10 quite useful in terms of performance, but it is still lacking what I see as basic MacOS support.

A system-wide macOS service to "Copy selected text to new Evernote" would indeed be very valuable.

I too mourn the loss of AppleScript!

  2. When I forward an email to my m.evernote.com address to dump it into Evernote, I would like the option to NOT capture it as HTML content, which can't be edited, highlighted, etc. Could there be an option switch (maybe something like "#nohtml" or "#editable" in the Subject line?) that would do away with the HTML wrapper so that the content could be edited/modified in Evernote?

  3. As an early Evernote paying supporter, I keep getting badgered to switch plans (as an individual user).

I get that they would like more of my money, but I don't see the incentive to switch and pay more.

Don't misunderstand: I want Evernote to succeed. But why can't I just continue with my old paid plan, without being constantly harassed to upgrade? Are they preparing a surprise for me, a loyal, long-term, paying customer?

  4. Not sure it's related, but since updating to the Monterey OS, Evernote has become very troublesome (after years of working very reliably).

Right now, when I launch it, all I get is a black window with the logo in the center, surrounded by the endless "comet" orbiting around it, with a sequence of "tips" displayed below that. I deleted and reinstalled the app—no change.

Last night I was using it and suddenly it showed my notebooks contained 0 notes, and when I tried to open one, it said "You no longer have access to this notebook". What!

Several days ago, I went to use the Web Clipper in Safari and it caused a HARD freeze on my Intel MacBook. When I restarted, the Evernote app was apparently corrupted—I had to reinstall it to get it to work.

The only hunch I have on what could be causing this: trying to use the Web Clipper in Safari to clip a web page that's displayed in Safari's "Reader" mode. As I recall, this seldom if ever works, and it seems correlated with these problems. Possible?

Evernote seems to work fine on my iPhone and my Samsung tablet.

    I need this to work!

  5. OK, this is weird: I did the steps exactly as you said, renaming the folder Evernote.old. Rebooted, logged into Evernote.

All my old stuff is there! There is no new Evernote folder in Application Support, and it seems to find everything in Evernote.old just fine.

And I still can't edit notes.

(I also have a folder called Evernote Preview, but it hasn't changed in almost 2 years. I presume I can delete it.)

  6. Thanks, but something has gone wrong. I noticed that the menu options are named somewhat differently from what you said. Here's what I'm doing (again):

    1. In Evernote Preferences, uncheck "Save Data at Log Out"

    2. Select File | Log Out Rob Lewis

    3. In the "Keep local backup?" dialog, check "Remove my Evernote data from this device" and click "Sign Out".

    4. The first time I tried this I rebooted the Mac but this time I'm not.

    5. Quit Evernote & make sure it's not running.

    6. Re-launch Evernote.

    7. It launches quickly and automatically logs me in.

My notes are there, I can read them, but if I try any edit, I get this:

"Note failed to update. There's been an error syncing your note. Please reload to resume editing." (Clicking the Reload button doesn't change anything)

It seems pretty clear that it is NOT deleting my data when it quits, because I don't need to log in and there is no delay while it refreshes my notes from the server.

    Help!

  7. I use the Web Clipper in Firefox several times a day without issues. Today I went to clip a note from a website. I got a blank window and a HARD freeze of my Intel MacBook Pro (macOS 12.1). Even the mouse pointer was frozen (sent crash report to Apple).

Upon rebooting, I now am unable to edit or delete notes. It just says "your note failed to update; reload to continue editing". Using the web interface appears to work OK.

Is this another case of "Uninstall Evernote, trash your local data, and reinstall"? Big drag! I have a LOT of notes.

Wouldn't it be cool if there was a simple Help menu option to "Reload local data from cloud" or something similar?

Evernote Premium should include a grown up Word Processor. There is no shortage of good cross platform ones.

You need Find & Change +1

    Additional functionality:

    - License Grammarian or another grammar checker

    - License Text Soap or another tool for stripping text

    - Hook up an API for letting BBEdit, LaTex, Nisus Writer, Word, Google Docs all be used as the front end text engine

    - Add more font support

And maybe finally fix the line spacing issue (where if you change the font size in a line of text, there's no way to adjust line spacing to fit).
