  1. Imagine a world where instead of "upgrading" to a version of Evernote that is much more sluggish to launch and update, instead they'd actually kept the old codebase and spent some time improving the Conflicting Changes experience beyond "open it in two windows" or "cut and paste into an entirely different program". Imagine if instead of a little banner that was a banner with a button that said "Resolve Changes" that took me to some kind of view that helped me quickly find the differences between two versions of a long note, and decide which ones to use. Wouldn't that be nice? Instead, we have New Evernote, and the Home Screen!
  2. Today I edited a note in whatever the hell the latest version of iOS Evernote is and it managed to create a sync error. All this time and effort and hassle to make a shittier version of Evernote and the experience for that is still the absolute most barebones version possible. Less so, even - now I have two notes in the database with no indication of which one is which except for one having a creation date of today. At least you used to put a "sync error" banner in one note's text. Now you don't even do that once I've dismissed this. And the only way to fix it is still to open it up on the old Mac client and open up both notes in windows, then scroll them in sync and visually look for differences. Wonderful. Thanks, guys. God I really need to make some time to decide which of the other possibilities out there I hate the least and switch off of this slow-ass pile of sunk cost fallacy.
  3. Awesome, it still takes about 15 seconds for a cold boot on the iPad Air 2 I’m typing this on, and now even if I customize the “new note” button to only have one option it still takes an extra tap to go from the stupid home screen to actually trying to remember what fleeting idea I opened it for, never mind the several seconds of staring at progress spinners after I hit the “notes” button on the home screen to look for a particular note that isn’t showing up in the home screen! Perfect, well done, when are y’all gonna get Evernote Classic up on the App Store as a separate app so I can keep on paying a subscription for a tool that actually worked instead of using this sluggish ***** you keep trying to polish by putting more interactions in between “opening the program” and “typing some stuff into a new note, or rapidly finding an existing note and adding to it”? I keep putting off trying to decide which of the other possibilities to switch to annoys me the least, but it sure looks like I’ll be doing this once I don’t renew my subscription this November. Figure out how to make “speed up the loading experience” and “removed pretty-looking barriers to the fundamental operations of this app” look good on your productivity review and resume instead of “added a new feature that slows things down even more”.
  4. Clearly your workflow does not involve any iOS devices. "Not installing EN`10" or "just install the Legacy Version" is not an option there.
  5. It used to do this just fine. Then EN10 happened and now it takes 10s. During which I'm either staring at a spinner or poking at an unresponsive image of the UI, trying to get down my thought before it vanishes. It's even slower on one of my iPads.
  6. Nice job rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic, guys. The new “home” screen shows less of what I want, and it boots up just as lethargically on my aging iOS devices as the last release did. It’s still taking fifteen goddamn seconds to go from tapping the icon to being able to type in a new note on my iPad Air 3 that handled the old version perfectly well. Ten seconds on my iPhone 6s. And the phone version is very STILL trying to import two images I was stupid enough to try to send from the camera to EN back when 10.8 came out. But I can customize the graphic taking up a quarter of my “home” screen, YAY, that completely makes up for everything! Evernote’s sluggish boot times on iOS have basically ruined it for me and this release does nothing for that. I still haven’t found an alternative that meets my needs so I’m still *theoretically* using this thing like I’ve been doing since 2010 but really if I’m gonna make a quick note I boot up Apple Notes because it actually comes up while I can still remember the idea I had. Or I take out a physical notebook and a pen. If I did’t have to share notes with my Windows-using husband I would’ve just migrated to Apple Notes by now. Apple Notes is ready to work three seconds after I tap its icon. Less than a third of what EN takes now. Is “make this thing load in a sensible amount of time” even on the roadmap? What about “put Evernote Classic on the App Store so I can keep using it while you ***** around for three more years trying to make the new version usable”? You’ve got until August to fix this, my account renewed shortly before this cursed update last year, and if it ain’t usable before then then I am not gonna renew.
  7. aagh this thing is still such a mess, I really wish I could downgrade back to the old one on all my iThings, it still takes for-*****-ever to start responding when I launch the damn thing, and I just tried taking a photo note on my phone and it was the weirdest flickery jumpy experience ever, ugh every time I open Evernote on my phone/tablet it is a slow, terrible experience and it just makes me pissed off but every other note app out there now is a giant pile of Electron garbage too and, ugh, if I didn't have to interoperate with my collaborator's Windows machine I'd just say ***** it and move to Apple's Notes or something, I think it's started to happen - I just used Apple Notes to write an impromptu grocery list the other day after several seconds of trying to wait for EN to decide to boot itself up on the old phone that was still perfectly functional for Old EN but I guess is too slow for adding six more layers of indirection between EN's code and the actual phone or something, it takes like twenty goddamn seconds to go from "tapping the EN icon on my iPad Air 2" to "actually being able to interact with EN", thirty on my iPad Mini 4, and I'm just sitting there trying to hold whatever thought I used to be able to dump into EN within *seconds* of waking up the thing, my phone EN is *still* stuck with a banner at the top saying it's importing a couple of photos I sent from the camera back when this piece of trash first came out seriously just stick Old Evernote up on the app stores please, I hate this new app, I'm using the old one on my Mac and everything is fine there but it's utter hell everywhere else to have to use this super-slow thing
  8. I am so damn tired of not being able to revert to the iOS versions that actually work. It takes 10-15 seconds for my iPad Air 2 to start showing notes and be responsive. My iPhone 6S takes about as long, and has been showing a banner saying it's importing a couple of clips I sent to EN from the camera for several weeks now, even after leaving it running all night long. Maybe it'd work better if I had a faster phone and tablet that could handle the seven more layers of indirection caused by rebuilding EN as a web app, but I don't, and they worked perfectly fine with the old version. Can we please get "Evernote Legacy" as a separate entry on the App Store or something?
  9. Nimbus has a lot of features but it sure is failing the "aaargh I hate Electron apps and their utter disregard for normal conventions of OSX keyboard shortcuts" test for me, and that's one of the things that's making me look into switching.
  10. My oldest note in EN is from January 2010; I've been a paid user for most of that time. I am definitely looking into switching away; sure, I can keep using EN 7.something on my Mac, but I can't roll back the IOS clients from the sluggish unusability of EN10 and "capturing random thoughts quickly on my phone" is a lot of what I've used EN for. I am currently working on a note in EN with my opinions on other note apps. It may be the last thing I write in Evernote. Perhaps if your needs align with mine (no Electron apps allowed, needs to have Mac/iOS/Windows/Android clients, needs to deal gracefully with PDFs and images placed in notes, needs to be able to collaborate with other people) it will be helpful: https://www.evernote.com/shard/s46/sh/16bf3b4b-7603-4828-aa7c-52db8cb95c8d/87e98644d8050f5ccfaacf089c07e2a7 Also I have found a post on the Evernote subreddit with an evolving list of EN alternatives, with some kind of attempt made to list which particular EN features various apps have: Current Evernote migration status: watching the OneNote EN importer preview ssssslllllooooowwwwlllllyyyyy import my 1487 notes, if you have a ton of notes then look elsewhere IMHO!
  11. Notejoy, like New Evernote, is a web app masquerading as an actual app. It does at least have enough attention to detail to not let you select half the stuff in the UI by dragging your mouse across it so there's that. (Seriously, you can select half of EN's interface, it's so embarrassing.) Idle and in the background it's using about as much CPU time on my Mac as Evernote 7.14, so it's cleared the first hurdle of being an Electron app. I would note how EN10 is doing with that but I just replaced that with 7.14. Can't drag and drop an image out of Notejoy to my desktop or another program, that's one of the things driving me nuts about EN10. Dragging an image into a NJ window results in a delay while it uploads it to their servers, which is pretty annoying compared to "it goes into the local note instantly and gets synced in the background while you keep on typing whatever thought you are trying to get out without any opportunities for distraction". Sharing with other users doesn't seem too bad, you have to create a shared "library" which contains notebooks rather than creating shared notebooks as with EN. Haven't actually tried it, I don't feel like cutting and pasting a hundred or so notes from my current big comics project into here. Has anyone experimented with going offline on two devices and making different changes, to see how it handles the dreaded Conflicting Changes that EN has been terrible at dealing with for the entire twenty years of its existence? The bar here is pretty low. I am really not a big fan of the multiple-second wait for a new Notejoy window to become active. Wasn't a fan of that in EN10 either. Nor am I a fan of it taking a moment to update after I rearrange notebooks/libraries in the sidebar. I wonder if Phone Notejoy takes as long to be responsive as Phone EN10? That's one of the things I'm really loathing about EN10.
  12. Oh yes, it is also worth noting that all of these old versions were wasting a ton of space on my disc. They're each like ~150 megabytes, which is maybe not much in modern drives, but multiply that by about thirty of them silently piling up with no indication except for this and it's starting to be worth noticing, especially if you're on a machine with a small SSD.
  13. I am not a developer. I am an artist. Safari is my main browser; now and then I encounter a page that doesn't work in it, and use develop>open page with... to quickly toss it to Firefox or Chrome. Both of which, you will note, are listed below about thirty old versions of Evernote. ---- I have managed to get rid of most of them; in the interest of not being DenverCoder9 here is what I did: I was able to get rid of a bunch of them by going to ~/Application Support/Evernote/ and removing the entire .Sparkle directory, and more just now by going to ~/Library/Caches/com.evernote.Evernote and removing the Sparkle directory. I have also discovered that if I attempt to open a webpage in any of the remaining copies of EN, I'm told I'm opening this app for the first time, and given an option to show it in Finder, which makes it easy to find the rest. Restart Safari and enjoy a much shorter list.
  14. . It's kind of insane. Any suggestions on how to clean this out? OSX, High Sierra, but this has been slowly accreting for quite some time - when did EN 5.2.0 come out?
