  1. I really hope they fix this. I mean, why is this such a special shortuct key anyway? Why not make it like all the other shortcuts (sure, add the inline text and make it '/' by default if you REALLY REALLY need to make it discoverable) but let us reassign it to whatever shortcut we want in the keyboard shortcut settings.

I feel like I'm going to have to add to my autohotkey script to change the '/' key's behavior to pasting a slash instead of behaving like a normal key in order to work around this..

    Anyway, thanks for confirming.

  2. Is the insert menu supposed to pop-up anytime you type a '/' or just when you type a '/' at the beginning of a new line?

The latter wouldn't be so awful and a few messages I've seen hear seem to suggest that that's how it's supposed to work. But it isn't that clear.

In my case, I get the popup menu every time I type a slash, no matter where it is. This means every time I want a slash I have to type a slash + space + backspace  or 2 slashes followed by backspace. Typing dates and file paths have become lots of fun...

Is it supposed to be this way or there something wrong with my setup?

    Thanks

The criticism takes place because you make out of a minor, irrelevant issue like who gets an update notice when within 7 days a global affair.

It seems you can’t take it that a fellow user gets notified a day earlier than yourself.

If you still don’t understand, sorry for it. Just sleep a night, and think it over tomorrow again.

No, you've completely misunderstood my point and then projected motivations on me which are completely untrue and made a public moral condemnation based on them.

It's clearly never occurred to you that you might have misunderstood me or that we've misunderstood each other.

I'm sorry you're so pissed off by people. You don't have to respond, I'm done with this "conversation".

    Could - should - would …

Do you belong to these people who believe they are better than others, must get everything earlier, faster, whatever ?

Bad news then: EN spreads the information delivery over 1 week. You may get it on day 1, day 4, day 7.

But there is relieve: You can download immediately, even without knowing there is a new version.

What a complete nonsense of a discussion !

    Wow! Just wow!

Why on earth would you turn this into a personal attack on my character? I won't respond in kind. I hope you're just having a bad day.

To be clear, I've demanded nothing of anyone. I reported what I felt was a bug in that the software did not respond in the way I expected it to.

I've made clear my opinion on how I think the feature should logically function. I've even made clear that I don't consider it a major issue but something that could be tweaked to make the software better.

I really don't believe that the suggestions I've made, and they are SUGGESTIONS, could possibly harm ANYONE. And yes, I think if a minor software change allows me, and ANYONE ELSE WHO WANTS IT, to get something earlier, easier and faster, then yes, ABSOLUTELY  that should happen. Why not?

If you feel that this change shouldn't happen because it would make the software worse in some way, that's fine. You can articulate that. But to add to a discussion that had already run its course to personally attack and belittle someone who's done nothing but express an opinion about a software feature is not only personally offensive, but runs counter to what I would hope would be the spirit of the forum.

  5. I see. Kind of. What determines which server is yours?

When I check on the download link of the website, though, I'll always get the latest (non-beta) version. Surely the client could check a central link to see what the current version is and initiate a download, circumventing the usual auto update process. But it would only do this if the user manually selects the check update menu item. This wouldn't require changing anything about the canonical update system.

There's lots of more pressing issues the developers can and should be working on, but I brought this up as something that frustrates me so it will hopefully get on the developers radar. I do believe it could go in the pile of non-critical but fairly easy things to fix.

    Thanks.

IMHO they just want to spread their Server load a little.

When 200 million users want to download an installer plus software of say 100MB, it adds up to 20.000TB. Trying to do it all at the same time is probably the equivalent to a DDOS attack. So they spread the Update message over a week.

I've never suggested that everyone should be notified immediately when an update becomes available, simply that if you manually select check for updates you should be shown if there is an update available. It's unlikely 200 million users would simultaneously decide to manually check for updates at the same time...

I believe that 'check for updates' checks to see which update is actually scheduled to come to your PC.  It is dribbled out rather than released to everyone automatically.  With v10.8.4 I got it immediately without asking, the previous couple of releases I had to wait for a number of days and sometimes got tired of waiting and other times was patient.

I think that the Microsoft Store version is much more prompt in receiving updates. That depends of Microsoft releasing the version and it is done pretty much as soon as Evernote deliver the update to the Store.

The average user probably doesn't ever click on check for updates. It's only the most engaged users that will. So it doesn't make any sense to not have this actually check for the latest version, especially if the app will automatically update eventually anyway. Perhaps the only reason for this option is to install an update you've previously declined? But then it's clearly mislabeled and frustrates your most engaged users.

I really think this needs to be fixed so if someone goes the trouble of manually looking for an update, it will offer them one if there is one available (since they can download that version from the website manually anyway). I can't think of any reason not to implement this, but if there is a reason, than this option just be removed entirely and replaced with a more logical update notification system.

    My 3 cents...

  8. I'm currently on 10.8.4 but I upgraded manually.

I've yet to see it auto update. It may be that it takes several days and every time I've checked it happened by chance to be just after the new release? But this doesn't seem too likely.

In terms of expected behaviour, it seems logical to me that even if the app normally autoupdates itself, if you've gone to the trouble of manually opening the menu item to Check for updates, it should actually check if there is a current update and offer to install it, even if you'd otherwise not receive it for a while due to a phased rollout.

If the check for update item isn't designed to behave that way, then I'd argue it should just be removed entirely, since it's just confusing and has no real functionality. I'm hoping it's a bug and not by design. (On the Google Pixel phones' check for update, it won't tell you there's an update if you're not currently in the part of the phased rollout receiving the update, and then you get it automatically anyway, so the feature is essentially useless. It always really bugged me!)

  9. Since I first decided to give the new evernote (ver 10+) a try, I've found that Help/Check for updates... command always says, "You're up to date!" even though when that's clearly not true as the version available for download on the website is newer. This has been the case on 2 computers I use (both Windows 10) since the first time I've installed on them (at least 4 version ago). So I need to manually check the website for updates. I'm not sure how to even easily do that. I end up starting a download and looking at the version number in the filename. If it's not newer I cancel the download.

Can you please fix so the check for update actually works?

Also, is there any option, or planned option for automatic updates (whether auto-installed or showing a notification that an update is available)? That would be really useful, especially while there's still rapid development on the app.

    Thanks!

  10. I may be naive, but I think zero knowledge encryption of notes and notebooks with group sharing of encrypted notes is much more valuable to business users than work chat. Of course this has to be done right and they need to hire a security expert and vet it rather than try to graft on some homemade solution that will be easily hacked. But this is the sort of feature I think users would be willing to pay. I sometimes use Lastpass to store notes on sensitive information. Lastpass note editing and attachment handling is terrible. I'm already a premium user, but I would love to be able to have Lastpass level security with Evernote level notekeeping.
