  1. Agreed. A COPY from an Evernote Note (from any client) should provide fully compatible HTML5 code to the clipboard. Evernote Team: Don't you find it embarrassing that a COPY from an Evernote note and a PASTE to THIS Evernote forum does NOT work very well ???
  2. Phils, TuskTools Treeliner is a GREAT tool. I strongly encourage everyone to view the excellent YouTube video if you have any interest in outliners or hierarchy. For those of you who don't think hierarchical systems add any value, I challenge you to watch this video. It might just open your eyes to a great new way of organizing. I should mention that it integrates tightly with Evernote. Phils, I'd love to see a Mac version. Any chance of one being available any time soon? Finally, ATTN Evernote Designers. You should view this video to see an excellent, powerful, yet simple way to construct complex boolean searches.
  3. For any EN Mac lurkers watching this thread, it is CTRL+CMD+H on the Mac. Evernote really needs to provide a shortcut for EN Win, maybe CTRL+WIN+H ???
  4. Dave, I think you make a sound argument for Evernote to strongly consider providing sub-notebooks. It is very clear and obvious to most that when you say "After all, the customer is supposed to be king???" you are NOT just talking about yourself, but the many, many customers who have for years requested sub-notebooks. Companies who continue to ignore the needs of large blocks of their customers run the risk of going out of business. Word Perfect and Blackberry are two examples that come to mind. The sleeping giant Microsoft seems to be waking up with respect to Note taking/capturing/organization with its OneNote app. They have recently begin making it available on more platforms/devices, and improving its capability. And, like Evernote, they have started making some versions FREE. Just look at what Microsoft did to Netscape Navigator. I was also once a huge WordPerfect fan, until they failed to adopt the GUI of Mac, then Windows. So while today I prefer Evernote to OneNote, that might change in the future. It just depends. Furthermore, Evernote has CHANGED ITS MIND on several major features. The best example is the Business version of Evernote. After years of saying they wanted nothing to do with creating/supporting a "business" version, they have done just that. The way I see it, understanding the need and value of organizing and viewing information in a hierarchical manner is something that is very obvious to some people, and, apparently, does not register with others. That's fine. No one who asks for sub-notebooks is trying to force anyone to use that method of organization. But there are others who don't seem to understand its value that continue relentlessly to argue against Evernote providing sub-notebooks. Frankly, I just ignore this segment and continue on. So, I continue to urge those who would like to have sub-notebooks in Evernote to continue asking for that feature. There is no harm in asking, and maybe someday Evernote will provide it.
  5. It's interesting. The thumbnail in the Snippet view was the BIG thing Evernote promoted when the Snippet view was released, quite some time ago. But the problem is that their algorithm often doesn't select what the user would have selected to represent the Note. Even Evernote/emerick admitted it's shortcomings: The problem is when the Evernote algorithm chooses an image that has nothing to do with the Note -- this is actually misleading and may cause the user to skip over that Note when he/she is visually scanning for a certain Note. IOW, the thumbnail is supposed to HELP us find the Note we want, but in some cases, about 30-40% of my cases, it actually misdirects/misleads us. That's why allowing the user to do a simple right-click on the image and select "Choose thumbnail" would be so great!
  6. You can't exclude NB from a Search, but you can exclude Tags. So, as a work-around, you could assign a Tag to all Notes in the NB you want to exclude. The Tag Name could even be the same as the NB Name. Let's say the NB name is "Personal". So you create a Tag named "Personal", and assign to all Notes in the Personal NB. Then you could so a Search like this: "-tag:Personal" and whatever other Search terms you'd like.
  7. While that will work, it's a bit laborious. For those that need to do this often or want a simpler method, see: Copy file or folder path to the clipboard in Mac OS X Lion I use this and it works well.
  8. Wow! I'm not sure that I could even identify 1,000 movies that I like, much less buy the DVD! You have an extensive and expensive collection my friend. Maybe some day it will be worth millions to some avid collector. I once collected CDs, DVDs, Blu-Rays, but now I'm comfortable with maintaining everything online (except for my music, which I have both online (Apple iCloud) and locally (Mac and iPhone)). Sorry for the off-topic post. And now, back to your regular program. :-)
  9. Well said, totochto! Some people just feel compelled to continuously object to everything they don't understand. My solution: just ignore them, and keep on asking for what you want. These objectors have no say in Evernote's decision making process. Many times now, Evernote has implemented features that these people objected to, or said it is not in the scope of the Evernote app.
  10. Note that you can also just click twice slowly on the file name in the Finder, and you can rename it there.
  11. Patrick, I agree that having some type of system level "archive" flag/field would be really great. Clearly, IF Evernote is actually thinking long-term about being the "100-year" company they claim they want to be, there are a number of issues they need to deal with. Scope is one of them. Scope is a term that has been used for a long time, and it simply means defining the scope, or range of activity you currently want to deal with. There are lots of ways of implementing this, but for the here and now, we need to devise an approach that will work NOW. I have thought of two approaches. There may be more, but here they are: Assign a Tag of "Archive" to ALL notes you don't want to include in Searches. Move ALL Notes to a Notebook, or Stack, named "Archive" (for example) that you don't want to include in Searches.I think the Tag approach (#1) has the most flexibility and ease of use. You can ADD a Search term of "-tag:Archive" to any search you want to EXCLUDE those OLD Notes. Unfortunately, this makes use of the Tag filer not very useful, because you can ONLY select one Tag to be filtered, AND you cannot exclude Tags. So you have to use the general Search box for everything, and include the "-tag:archive". Unfortunately, you cannot EXCLUDE a NB from the search. But you can exclude Tags. So, it's not perfect, but it's the best you can do for now. I'd suggest that you and others so interested continue to request that Evernote provide a "Scope" filter that applies in addition to any other Search/filter that you might use. Possible Future Enhancements Instead of having a simple "Archive" flag, if we had a Scope filter, it would be much more powerful and flexible. For example, you could dynamically set it to a date range, like "NOT (01/01/2007-12/31/2008)", and this would EXCLUDE all Notes in the years 2007-2008. Another example is ">=01/01/2009" which would limit the scope to Notes created on Jan 1, 2009 or later. IAC I hope I've given you some ideas about how you might make things work for you now.
  12. I agree, having an option in Evernote client to capture the email header info would be very helpful. I often use this same workflow of BCCing an email to my Evernote account. It is essential to capture the email header in this case.
  13. XiDW, I agree with your request, as do many others based on this and other threads. I also support your right to address a post to Evernote developers. No one outside of Evernote (and maybe not even inside) can really know whether or not ALL posts are read by Evernote staff. I expect they do real a lot of posts, but ALL, well that's a lot of reading . . . :-) IAC, if you feel strongly about the need for a particular feature I see no harm in posting the request in different threads. Certainly the nay-sayers have no problem repeating their objections ad nasuim. Your post is specific, respectful, and appropriate.
  14. I'd be happy if I could just right-click on an image in the Note, and select it as the thumbnail.
  15. GM, I'm pretty sure the "any:" term applies to EVERYTHING in the Search line. So you can NOT do an ANY of the Title AND require a tag. That is EXACTLY why boolean search is needed.
  16. Can you share the query that you use to accomplish this search? Hi. I would guess: intitle:fbi tag:privacy encryption: GM, don't think that would work. You're missing the OR: "FBI, NSA, or CIA in the title" You search would return ONLY those notes with "FBI" in the title.
  17. Until/IF Evernote provides us with a sort text/table feature, the best workaround I have found is to attach an Excel file, which can be displayed inline for Premium account users. This allows you to view the data directly in the Evernote Note, and then quickly edit with a simple double-click on the attachment. Saving changes and closing the file in Excel will automatically update the Evernote Note. Keep in mind that this results in an upload of the entire Excel file in Evernote, which will go against your monthly upload allowance. So this is really a good workaround ONLY for small Excel files that are infrequently updated.
  18. Well, if your checklists were in a table with columns for "Priority" or "Location" or "Time" or ...., then it would be very useful to sort the checklist on one or more of these columns. Or how about sorting on checked vs unchecked?
  19. While it is true that it is hard for anyone who is not an Evernote developer to know exactly how hard it is to implement a specific feature, it is possible for a person who has substantial experience as a software developer to make a reasonable, educated guess concerning the relative difficulty of making a small change. In this case the change is NOT about setting some internal field which tells the software which image to use as a thumbnail. That has already been done. And, in fact, the developers have already discussed in these forums the very complex logic which is used to select the image to be used. I, for one, believe that it is reasonable to assume that it does not take a huge amount of effort to add a menu option to the right-click (context) menu to allow the user to select the image to be used. I can say this because, as a develper, I have written code for this type of UI many times. It is also clear that the current complex code that is used to select the image does something to set the internal field. So, the only real change that is needed is that which allows the user to select the image. All off the remaining code that processes that result is already in place and should be able to be used with little effort. But I digress. It seems to be of little value to raise objections to a user's request simply because the user thinks it may or may not be difficult to implement. That is not a question that we can settle here. So, IMO, the best course of action is to ignore the user's opinion of difficulty of implementation, and focus on the usefulness of the requested feature. Frankly I can't imagine why anyone would object to this feature. Today's web pages contain 10's, if not 100's, of images, especially when you remember all the ads that are so commonplace. IMO it is highly unlikely that any algorithm could determine which one of these many images is most relevant to the user who captured the web page. So providing for a user selected image for the thumbnail is most logical.
  20. Well it's not likely that you will get a direct response from Evernote as to what they will, or will not, do in the future. Having said that, all of the mobile Evernote apps have significantly less capability than either EN Win or EN Mac. So if you are trying or planning to use EN iOS as your primary or only EN client, then you may want to reconsider that strategy. You will likely be very frustrated. Of course, it depends entirely on how you want to use Evernote.
  21. I prefer the Applescript developed by Veritrope. It is well maintained and the developer is excellent, publishing a number of other scripts as well. It is well-written, and easy to modify to suit your needs. See Evernote Import Folder Using AppleScript from Veritrope.com
  22. LOL, you know that's a gross exaggeration Gaz. But we do need solid, basic, rich-text editing -- which is a far cry from word processing. EDIT: correct typo
  23. Really??? How can you have an effective Business system without a decent communications? I'm pretty sure they (EN) have advertised EN Business as a great collaboration tool. Just do a google on "evernote business collaboration" and you'll get lots of hits.
  24. Well done David! Thanks for posting the Microsoft Windows UX Design Guidelines. I do hope someone will pass this on to the EN Dev team. So many developers today have forgotten that following these guidelines is one of the key ingredients to making the app intuitive. They seem more concerned with looking cool and being different than they do with actual usability. BTW, I'm not sure if it is in the guidelines, but CTRL+W has been a shortcut for closing a window for many, many years.
