For Mac users who want an alternative to V10, try EaglerFiler.

AS a digital filing cabinet it works MUCH better than Evernote 10, and in some ways better than Evernote Legacy.

After deleted EN with AppCleaner and re-installing, EN seems to be working on my OS14 and OS10 machines.

I wonder what caused all this???

I used the Apple approach to delete the app (i.e. through the launcher). WIll try Appcleaner.

But since EN on the older OS is having trouble, it looks like there's a broader issue.

The problems with new notes, emptying trash, moving notes, and retained log-in information remain, but now I can't log in to the desktop app, either with OS14 or OS 10. I can log in EN web.

 Starting today, Evernote does not perform the following functions: opening a new note, emptying trash, moving notes between notebooks and remembering who I am when I open the app. It does perform searches. This is on a mac operating OS 14.0. I have deleted the app and reinstalled, but that did not fix the problem.

I've tried the same operations on a mac running 10.14 and everything worked.

Any suggestions?

Sorry for the delayed posting -- I just found this thread.

One frustration I've been having with the current EN versions is that some simple, basic functions still available on Legacy have been dropped. My particular frustration is not being able to have authors displayed in the note lists and then be able to sort by author. It would seem that would be a simple thing to add. Back when we could send comments/suggestions and questions directly to EN, I suggested this - but that channel of communication now seems closed. Our inability to communicate with technical staff may be the biggest loss.....

Author is not listed in the dropdown menu.

Creator IS listed, but that is not editable.

If there is any way to display (and ideally sort on) author, I would appreciate knowing about it.

When looking for a note, it is often important to see who the authors are, Without a display of this field, EN loses a lot of its value as a note archive.

WE must be refering to different fields. I've edited the author fields for thousands of notes.

Why would EN want to remove the author field? That would degrade the archive quite a bit. It should be easy to allow sorting on the author field. I wonder why EN is reluctant to put that in.

I didn't expect suthorsip to be extracted from websites..... The older versions of EN allowed for (manual) entry of author when notes were created, just as titles needed to be entered. Then, of course, there could be sorting and display of authors, just as for titles. Is there a reason why this could not be done for the current version of EN?

In my work, i need to archive articles and websites from the medical literature. I have more than 47,000 different "notes" (the majority pdf's)-- from thousands of authors. I'm guessing I have articles or websites from at least 20,000 different authors.

In the display for a notebook, it would be very helpful to display the authors in addition to the title, dates, size, etc. This would enable sorting on author and ease searching for a particular note.

I wish I had read the warnings about Evernote's offer of an updated version of Evernote Legacy. I took the bait, thinking I was going to get what they said they would give me. Instead I got the new -- much inferior -- current Evernote.

Endnote Legacy works fine. You can download it from Evernote.

That is likely to be functional for you, though apparently it will not be supported, so there is likely to be trouble after OS updates/changes.

There are seveeral Evernote alternatives out there.

(I'm keeping a list for the inevitable time when I'll have to ditch EN).

Are there really 80 alternatives?

I need to be able to sort, tag, and retrieve pdfs and other documents/webpages

The candidates I've So far I've found are:

Bear, I Librarian, AbleDocs, Mendeley, Zotero, PDF Stacks, Devonthink, Notion, Joplin, and Keepit.

Some of these don't look like what I need, so I'd appreciate further suggestions.

I'm encouraged a little by your thought that Evernote is taking the updates seriously. However, when I've made inquiries I've received only polite, bland, uninformative replies. It is clear that Evernote is moving in a new direction, and what "up to speed" means may differ among various groups of users and the developers. Based on what I need from Evernote, I see little evidence of progress, and I'm much less optimistic.

I also use a Mac (mainly). What I absolutely need is:

The ability to tag notes and organize the tags

The ability to sort notes within notebooks by dates of creation and revision, and by author (and ideally for pdf files by date of original authorship)

Web clipping

Searching for words within notes.

Reliable, fast operation.

Legacy EN works pretty well for me -- but V. 10 will not allow for sorting by author, and is slow with an awkward interface for me. I can't imagein using Home.

I have been using Evernote mainly to store and organize files so that I can easily retrieve those with appropriate tags or authors. Obviously I see the frustrations you've described. Consequently, I'm seriously in the market for an Evernote alternative. What other apps have you looked at that might be suitable replacements?

What are the implications of co-existence with v10 and the advantages of going back to v6.25?

I have mainly used Evernote on a Mac to archive and search files (pdfs, web clippings, a few notes). Since the new version has lost so much functionality, I've researched other apps that I'm considering switching to. Any thoughts about these: Mendeley, I Librarian, Zotero, PDF Stacks, AbleDocs?

Unless Evernote gets better, I'll likely jump ship. The question is to which other app.

This new version of Evernote is almost unusable for me. Less functionality than previous versions.

I've used Evernote for about 10 years. Several of the previous updates have made it slightly less functional, but this update keeps all the frustrating features of the past, adds new ones, and makes life particularly frustrating.

I use Evernote mostly for archiving and tagging pdf notes and clipping webpages. Any suggestions for alternatives ?
