Either the curators of this forum are taking a long Spring break or they are abandoning us to our own devices, in the mode of Apple Discussions.

It seems a little odd, this deafening silence from the EN team. My earlier posting from a few days ago as to the lack of new version announcements got not so much as an acknowledgement from the curators.

    Are you there at all?

That's why I created this thread - since Evernote doesn't seem to remember releasing 3.7 beta 1

I just updated to 6.6.1 on my Mac (and I honestly should know better by now than to update anything without checking it out first, so my bad there) and I completely hate the dark thing that's going on in the sidebar now. Since I'm getting an enormous amount of chaff trying to revert versions, I just want to ask that you please, please give us some kind of control over the visual appearance, or at least reconsider your colour choices.

It's not so much a problem of aesthetics as that the dramatic difference between the dark Notebooks column and the rest of the window draws the eye leftwards, away from the open note where I'm trying to type. I have to hide that entire panel off the edge of my monitor when I'm not using it in order to get anything done. It's poorly thought-out visual design.

I'm also not sure how I feel about the header/toolbar backgrounds being the same colour as the text field; having actual borders there clarified things. Possibly your designers should take a step back and consider that they're not hanging this UI on the wall of the Louvre: it's actually supposed to be functional.

If you want to further hide it, you can drag the right edge of the column over to the left and collapse it, as seen in this screenshot:

I would just love theme support. Microsoft recently added Dark Mode to Office 365. I am not sure if it is publicly available or just on the insider ring for now, but it is there.

I personally don't care for Dark Mode in Office 365 because the other themes and the contrasts in the app are enough, but with Evernote, given the existing mode or dark mode, I'd probably go with dark mode given I cannot see the subtle differences in the 50 shades of gray.

Off-topic, where is the dark mode in O365?

I just posted the Same thing! The same the happened to me.... An offer to update....and I have not been able to use my account on THAT machine ( an iMac)... When I uninstalled the app from the App Store and reinstalled ...I saw limited amount of notes.

When I reinstall it w Evernote Web for Mac I see all the notes, but trying to do anything with them ( clicking on them or even syncing) crashes the account.

i am able to use the same account on my MacBook and another iMac on which I have NOT updated to 6.6... They still have 6.5

Sounds like you may have not fully uninstalled Evernote. Did you follow these instructions?

Hmm.  This topic is titled "The Evernote Editor", and is about Evernote's effort to improve the Editor on all platforms:

So, I can't imagine why you are posting here, since you " really don't care at all about editing on Evernote",

I suppose you would be since you never use Evernote to write anything, to edit anything, to create content.

I do hope you realize that Evernote is used by a wide variety of people for a wide variety of tasks, including writing on many levels.  I think that there are many, many users (including myself) who need and expect Evernote to be a good rich text editor, but don't expect it to be word processor.

You seem to have some issues with Evernote search.  Perhaps you would be better served by starting a new topic that is focused on your issues.

@macfixer Thanks for this feedback. Can you elaborate on this a little more please.

    Here is Spotlight:

    Here is Evernote:

They're just white boxes to type in, in my opinion. Add something (other than the Evernote logo, which is kind of subtle) splashy to it so that we know without a doubt, we're searching in Evernote. Perhaps an Evernote Green border? The Evernote text logo? A different shade of (*shudder*) grey? Something to differentiate it.

Also, if you do end up keeping this tone, if I select the option of a dark sidebar, the search box should adhere to it, and be dark as well, OS X Yosemite-style.

Today we’re releasing Evernote for Mac 6.6 Beta 1.

    • Updated audio recording user interface. The audio recording ui has a new cleaner look which also fixes some layout issues which were present in languages other than English.
    • Left side navigation area now visually preserves your selections. When you select a tag or a notebook in the sidebar, that item will become highlighted.
    • Contextual menu item for the note tags area. This allows tags to be copied and pasted more easily.
    • New menu items to duplicate a note. The 'Duplicate Note' menu item has been added to the Note menu and the note list context menu.

    • Checkboxes should now be visible when you print a note.
    • We've continued to make changes which should improve sync and stability.

    Known issues:

    • Switching accounts can cause Evernote to present a dialog reporting an internal database error and then exit. This is especially likely if one or both of the accounts has not been fully down-synched. The dialog is a little misleading as the app exits before any database error can occur.
    • Playback of audio recordings on Mavericks (10.9.*) can cause a crash. We already have a fix for this issue and it should be resolved in the next beta release.

Thanks for testing the Mac 6.6 Beta 1 release and please report issues you find in this forum thread. You can download the beta here or update from within the app.

The selection in the sidebar does not work, still

    non-retina iMac, running OS X 10.11.3

I have more than 7000 notes and the re-index process really spends lots of time (approx. 500 notes/5mins). I am not sure whether it is a bug.

How do we know when it is done? I have a Macbook (2015) and I have no clue when it is busy. There is no HD light and indexing isn't a particularly processor intensive activity. I have almost 8,000 notes at around 7GB in size. I didn't leave it open for a long period of time, maybe 30-45min max before I closed the lid and went to work.

Should I leave it open for an hour or more tonight?

We do emit a completion message in activity log, but not via UI.  You don't need to wait for the completion, nor leave it open at night.  The reindexing will continue when you open the lid again.  Even if you quit the app, it will pick up the job when you open the app again.  For most users, we hope the reindexing will go unnoticeably.

In the future, perhaps pop up a Notification that indexing is done?
