About zagyzebra

  1. Metrodon - I KNOW how to save to Notebooks -- I've been doing it in Evernote for years. The basic instructional link you offered above is nothing more than I already know. THE PROBLEM STARTED when I downloaded v. 5.1.4. Suddenly there is no way to select a notebook -- no pulldown menu like on previous versions -- in the clipper window that says "Type or drag files here to create a note." It seems like the latest version's clipper function is missing major functionality. Can you please explain to me how to save to a Notebook using this new clipper window?
  2. I just downloaded Evernote 5.1.4 (OSX 10.8.3). Big mistake. This system is totally different and I can't figure out how to save new notes to my various Notebooks. How do you designate which Notebook to put a new clipping or note in? (I have more than 75 Notebooks and use them all for different purposes.)

After using Evernote for years, one of my files that I had been slowly adding information to over the years was completely wiped. Not the file, but the content on the file! I feel the same way about Evernote being too buggy and am at a loss with what or how to replace it. When I first started using EN it was effortless, and seems to grow more cumbersome and buggy with each iteration. Sorry to hear that Could you tell us exactly what you were doing when it happened? Also, could you give us your computer, operating system, and Evernote version? Thanks! As for your data, if you are a Premium member, you can retrieve the content using the note history. If you are not a Premium member, you can contact customer support, and they'll take care of you. Either way, I expect you will get it all back. INDEED, THAT WORKED! THANK YOU SO MUCH. I am a Premium User, and was easily able to retrieve data using note history. As to your other questions, I have no clue what I was doing when this happened. I only noticed it after the fact. I am using OS 10.6.8 At the time I was using EN 5.0.3. Have since upgraded to 5.0.4 Once again, thank you. It is certainly a relief to get that data back!
  4. I'm having a heck of a time with 5.0.3. I've just created a new notebook. I create a new note, select the notebook I just created to store the note in, and then it doesn't store it. I don't know what happened to my note...it didn't show up in a search for notes through any of my notebooks. It just didn't save it. I've gone through this a couple of times now and the same thing happened both times. Have I selected an incorrect preference? Is there a new mandatory "save" key or function I don't know about?

  6. It's been a few days...yes, problem solved, thanks to a helpful EN tech support person on Chat (this alone is worth the $45 fee for Premium users). My problem was that two ENs were loaded into my apps at the same time, and creating a conflict. Evidently, when I downloaded the newest version, it never replaced the old one. Nor did it transfer notebooks. This seems to be a problem with the latest version of EN. Anyway, all I had to do was trash one of the versions, reload EN, and my local notebooks were back. Relief!
  7. I am kicking myself for not having bought a new hard drive and backed up diligently with Time Machine. My hard drive got filled and instead of rushing out to buy a new one, I used a thumb drive for backing up newly created files. Big mistake. But never did I think I would lose Evernote files anymore than I thought I would lose my, say, hotmail emails. I assumed it was all cloud based and thus retrievable. Last night I paid for premium support just so I could chat directly with support, which I will do as soon as I get through my morning meetings.
  8. I just attempted to download the latest version of EN on my macbook, and I got an error message that stated I had an Internal Database Error. In researching this at the Knowledge Base, I find that only synched notebooks are salvageable if you reinstall EN. All local notebooks will be completely lost. Since I didn't have Evernote backed up, I am assuming all my local notebooks have been lost. This is devastating. Does anyone know a way around this? I really think that Mac users should be alerted to this potential problem when they install EN...had I known, I would have paid extra to synch all my notebooks. I have become really dependent on using EN as a filing system. Now all my files are lost.
  9. Thank you, Alexander. I'll give that a try.
  10. Thank you, Alexander. Do you know how Evernote, particularly the clipper function, works with the combination of Safari 5.0.5 and Lion?
  11. Metrodon - Turn of phrase -- what can I say -- I have kids. Besides, the word fits: this Evernote clipping situation is retarded. Some things have improved, but the clipping is still abysmal. And you referred me to to the Safari Extension Beta discussion for what purpose? To confirm that everybody is still having clipping problems, even with the beta?
  12. Hoping you are planning on fixing this in the next beta, but I thought I would ask just to make sure. Will it be possible to clip the entire web page to Evernote again (like we used to be able to do), as opposed to just clipping the rectangle or window, or copying and pasting? I really miss that so so much. This is just retarded compared to what we used to have.
  13. "If the Safari version approaches its usefulness all these complaints will fade into red faces for the senders." Red-faced...we have every reason to be upset. Vocalizing our frustration with these new Evernote problems should be met with answers and explanations, not snide little comments. I check this forum almost every other day to see if there is progress, or a general public posting about progress for Safari/M users from the Evernote development team, and there are only new complaints posted, no management response...unless you consider, "You can stop complaining now; you've been apologized to, and assured that they're going to fix it. Or isn't that enough?" to be appropriate management response.
  14. Well, actually, I'd side with the drama queen in enlisting all those adjectives X2! It really is THAT HORRIBLE! The other thing that baffles me -- and if anyone can clarify, please do -- is how we are supposed to set the URL. Previously, we were able to clip from Safari to Evernote, and the url would automatically set, seamlessly, so you could easily reference back to the original web page you had clipped from. NOW, in its current horrific incarnation, Evernote requires us to "Click to set URL," and then a box opens that reads "Enter the note's source URL." So that now you have to 1) move the Evernote window you just clipped to out of the way, then 2) go to the source internet page, then 3) click on the URL address bar, then 4) cut and copy the URL address, then 5) locate the Evernote window again, then 6) click on the "Enter the note's source URL," 7) then paste. Voila! SIX STEPS LATER...you're done...phew! What we ALL WANT TO KNOW is: HOW LONG WILL WE HAVE TO WAIT FOR A WORKABLE EVERNOTE TO USE FOR OUR NEW OSX AND SAFARI? Otherwise, we need to migrate to another organizer simply because using Evernote is all the frustrating adjectives the drama queen unfurled, and then some.
  15. When are you going to have Evernote fixed for upgraded OSX and Safari users? Just trying to determine if I should switch to a different organizer because I really need one right now and Evernote, which I used to LOVE, has suddenly become my worst nightmare...well, ok, not my worst by a long shot, but you get my drift.
