  1. @Mike P Certainly that is the practical solution.... but the point made by @dplatter is spot on, and Evernote should definitely consider making it easier to search in title.  Even if it is not "quicker" for power users than a text expander, it is important to make it easy and readily available for non-power users, so that they can discover the power of this search tool.

Once a new user understands the importance of using keywords in the title and searching with "intitle", it is a real game changer

I only had to move the cursor to the right for a second and then come back to it. No big deal and I don't do this often enough, but it was kind of funny and reminded me of this thread.

I encounter this a lot... while it is only a brief interruption, it is an interruption while trying to change the month and is TOTALLY unnecessary.  These popups are really disruptive....

Easy solution... add a preference setting to turn them off.

  3. Thanks for the recommendation Gazumped... haven't seen that "Appcleaner" recommendation, and will do that now.  I did fully uninstall according to the Evernote directions, but will try this as well.

The very very odd thing about this issue, is that the same behavior with notes not saving any changes occurs on the Web version of Evernote.  I also logged out of that one, deleted all cache and the same notes continue to not hold any changes.  The lack of response from Evernote after the issues is escalated is what I find most frustrating (and concerning)

  4. I have been having a series of problems where specific notes suddenly become "corrupt" and stop saving changes.  I am hesitant to post this here, since I think it may have something to do with a Preview/Beta that I was formerly in, but I am not getting any response from Evernote support and have been removed from the Preview and the issues continue to come up on select notes.  I have been a dedicated Evernote user for 14+ years and strong advocate for the platform, but I am losing confidence in the app and feeling foolish for continuing to think a non-responsive Evernote support may resolve this.  Anyone else seeing these issues, or is this just limited to me?

As a bit of background... I was in this Preview/Beta, and encountered an issue a few weeks ago.  Submitted tickets and got an initial response requesting logs, then indicated it was escalated and stopped getting responses to messages.  This then happened again, and I created a new ticket and requested to be removed from the Preview.  There was no response, and finally after sending many more emails, they removed me from the Preview and I followed the instructions to uninstall all instances of Evernote, and the Preview badge went away.

Now this morning, three days after leaving the Preview, I had another note become "locked" and not save any changes.  I submitted another ticket, but they just don't seem to care about this issue.

It is killing me to think about switching to a different platform, as nothing works as well as Evernote (when it works).  But I feel like a fool sticking with this product if there is no response after 3 weeks of these issues, and I could lose data at any time.  Any suggestions?

  5. Not sure if anyone at Evernote will see this, but the new keyboard shortcut and insert feature that searches existing notes to insert a link is great.  However, it would be a GREAT improvement if the search box started with a list of the most recently accessed notes.  99% of the time, I am inserting a link to a note I just processed.

This is how the search is implemented with the Quick/Jump menu, where you see a list of recent content when hitting Command+J (on Mac).  However, when I hit Option+Command+K, it starts with a notebook/folder tree, which is not nearly as useful in my opinion

  6. On MacOS, it shows the backlink count and gives a dropdown list of notes with backlinks.  However, when you click one of those notes it briefly takes you to that note then immediately back where you were.  Hopefully they fix this soon, as it will be an INCREDIBLY useful feature!

  7. This latest update added an option when swiping on a note in a list to download it for off-line use. However, it would be great to have settings to choose what two quick actions you want available when swiping.

Personally, I would definitely want the ability to quickly jump to reschedule the note’s reminder. I also rarely delete notes, so would also like the option to reset that one to “Move” note. However, give the users the option to choose whatever two options they find most useful when swiping.

  8. I love the new feature to quickly add internal links quickly without leaving the note!! (next step show backlinks or a list of other notes that link to the note you are on please).

I also love the new ability to view internal Evernote links as Previews, but have two suggested improvements:

    1) Evernote Preview links do not allow you to open the other note in a new window.  The normal Command+Click does not work on those Preview Links... and clicking on the arrow only opens the other note within the same window.  On Mac, my workflow really relies on opening other notes in a new Window, so until this is fixed, I guess I will stick with text links.

    2) Option for Evernote Preview Links to be Title Only:  Within the settings, I can choose to default all links to Text, Title or Preview... however for most internal links I want to use Text, so I have this set to Text.  However, if I want to convert this to a Preview Title... I need to take two steps to Convert to Preview (which defaults to the full preview), then select the option to change it to Preview Title.

    @aukirk,

Thanks for your tips ! But could you tell us where you find these informations ? because I would like to understand exactly what is the meaning of "remindOrder:*" and what other value could be used (if any).

Unfortunately, it took a lot of testing and trial/error to figure out these saved searches for reminders... but it was all based on the Evernote help file for advanced search syntax:
    https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/articles/208313828-Use-advanced-search-syntax

  10. I find it unnecessarily difficult to grab an internal app link to a note.  Unfortunately, using the keyboard shortcut does not always work, especially if you have multiple notes open, and having the two options for app link and web link in a submenu delays grabbing the link from the menu.

One minor update that would reduce the friction slightly would be putting those two items directly in the menu, instead of making them in a sub-menu.  However, ideally, it would be great to get a "Copy Link" button or icon next to the "Share Button" where the user could set a preference about whether they want it to be an internal app link or web link (personally for me it is always an app link).

This is a minor request, but copying links dozens of times a day the delay and difficulty selecting the right submenu item does add up to some inconvenience using the app.

  11. Agreed… I love Evernote and have been a vocal supporter of v10, but the iPad app is so lacking. It is just a bigger iPhone app, when it could be so much more and really become my main user of Evernote. The inability to open notes in separate  windows or work on two instances of the app side by side really limits to utility.

Another big headache I have with the iPad (and iOS) app is the scroll wheel date picker used when scheduling reminders or tasks. It doesn’t show the date of the week, so I constantly need to flip back to my separate calendar app. A month view date picker would be so much better.

  12. Going to add my voice to the long list of requests for this feature.  Certainly this is not as high on my wish list as the other ages-old feature request for collapsable text/sections... but this would be a great addition.  Maybe they can knock both out together someday!  Not holding my breath, but would be great

Isn't that what we already have? You can open a note in a new window. If you use ctrl+Q on Windows (I assume cmd+J will do the same on Mac) the new note replaces the note in the main window but not in the new window.

I am not following what you are saying.... At least with Mac, Cmd+J "opens" the selected note in the main window.  If you are viewing a notebook or saved search, selecting the note from the list on the left opens a preview on the right.  If you double click the name on the left, it opens that note in a "new" window entirely, which is separate from the main Evernote instance.  However, when you do Cmd+J and select the note, it does not provide the option to open the note in a "new" window... rather, the note opens full width in the main instance of Evernote, and you lose the view of the notebook or saved search you are working on (i.e. you can no longer see the list of notes you were viewing).

  14. Often when processing my inbox or working on a saved search, I know that there is another note I want to open or add a link to, and the Cmd+J feature makes it so easy to find that note.  However, it always opens in full screen, replacing the saved list or notebook view that I was working on.  I have tried right clicking the results or Cmd+click, but there does not seem to be any way to open the selected result from the Quick Jump results in a new menu.  This would be very helpful.

P.S. Another way to solve this issue would be allow us to open two instances of Evernote in different windows.... not tabs, but two distinct windows that can be worked on next to each other.

It's my understanding that before v10 there were a whole bunch of cool features that Evernote wanted to implement, but had difficulty doing so consistently on all 5 platforms and so a lot of them were invariably put on the back burner.

I have had similar hopes that this feature would have been implemented by now under v10, with the common editor.  However, now I fear that it is not "splashy" enough to be big release that can be promoted (like tasks and calendar integration).

While I still hold hope that this feature will be released... I am starting to think it is wishful thinking, as they could have integrated this with a number of other long-requested features that were integrated into the new editor when it rolled out in beta at least a year before v10 hit, such as different color highlighters, "grabbable" bullet lists and headers.  In hindsight, the fact that collapsable sections were not part of that rollout makes me wonder whether it will ever come.

Who is using the iPad as main device is at the moment seriously handicapped: A stripped down mobile client plus a crashing web client.

One of my main wishes for the future is to be able to actually use Evernote on the iPad… never as my main device, but it would be so much better for the weekly review, clearing my inbox and rescheduling reminders if it worked like the Web version without crashing, and allowed full support for multitasking.

I experience major sync issues with the iOS app, and that date selector wheel is so inefficient when rescheduling reminders.

  17. It is very odd that the Evernote web client has difficulty syncing and keeping up to date with the desktop version.  I don't often use the Web version, but when my inbox gets out of control, it is often easier to have two windows and that is only possible by running desktop and web together.  However, the list of notes in my inbox or any of the saved searches never matches the desktop?

While it seems that the web should be a "live" view of what is on the Evernote server, I guess they are syncing locally, but initially it showed a list of notes that were in my inbox weeks ago.  Even after reloading the page, waiting over an hour, the count of notes in the web inbox still doesn't match what I have on desktop.

Anyone know if there is an option to force Evernote web to sync or clear the previously downloaded data and start again?

  18. First, I am a stronger supporter of Evernote v10 and the direction the company is going in general.  However, it remains very frustrating that the iPad experience is so much worse than desktop.  It would be great to have a true iPad version, but even absent that... why can't sync work?

During my "Weekly Review" process every weekend, I move any Goodnotes files/notes from the week over to Evernote for archiving.  They hit my desktop app instantly, but even though I am using the iPad "share" feature on Goodnotes, they are inconsistent on how they sync over to the iPad Evernote app.  Often I want to add some comments to the Evernote note that is created with those PDF versions of the Goodnotes document, or set a reminder.  However, it is frustrating to have to switch over to the desktop to do that.

Generally the sync on iPad is inconsistent, and even when I go into the menu and manually force it to "sync", it sometimes does not show a new note that is appearing on the desktop version.

Is this an issue with iOS/iPadOS that impacts the ability to Evernote to maintain the sync as quick as it does on the desktop?
