fwiw  My solution is to add a "Subject Date" to my notes
by prefixing the date to the title, for example 2021-07-01 Statement [Shaw Internet] ....

For payment date, I use the Reminder feature

That's a good idea.  I also feel like I might be able to get around some of it by sort order.  I wonder if there's a way to specify the sort order in a saved search.  Anyone have any luck with that?

  2. Here's a prime example of why it's beneficial to me:

Oh no.  I missed tagging the bill from March that was paid on Apr 10.  Now when I add the tags, the Updated date changes even though I did nothing else to the note.
It sure would be nice to change it back and keep all my notes where I had them.

I love the ability to change the date field. I collect genealogical information from the past. It makes so much more sense to change the wedding date of a relative from today's note to the actual date they got married. Ditto for their birth date and other important dates. I also change both the date and time when I create a note as my reminder for an appt or task in the future. Same applies to accumulated receipts which generally don't get scanned for several days.

Yeah I get that.  It's very handy having two dates you can modify on a note.  I've used it on numerous occasions to sort of pin upcoming bills to the top of my notes list.  Maybe it's very challenging to do with the new infrastructure.  I haven't heard it mentioned anywhere else, so I'm mostly curious if it's coming back or not.  If not, I need to rethink my workflows.

I don’t doubt it makes sense for you, thanks for explaining this part of your workflow.

It crosses my mind why this should be necessary. How often do you really look this up, or need to reproduce what happened in this nitty-bitty detail ?

My workflow is pretty simple: When I receive an invoice, I enter it right away in my banking software. Usually i pay once a week what has accumulated. I then scan the invoice, and tag it for example for the tax declaration. Tax stuff is collected physically for legal reasons, the rest goes to the shredder.

Each invoice carries the vendor name, a date and an invoice number - I don’t care if I received it 2 days after, the date is in the OCR. All payments carry the vendor name and the invoice number as well, are collected in my banking software, and in the monthly bank statements. They are OCRed as well. I usually need a single search (for the invoice number, or the vendor name) and get all notes related to the invoice.

Personally I don’t see any value in manipulating the notes dates, just to set it precisely to where I want it to be. It can be done, but I don’t see a use case for it.

Thanks for throwing in your two cents on how something I use ALL THE TIME isn't useful for you.  That's real helpful.

  5. Maybe this is already in the pipeline.  If not and there are no plans to add it, please let me know.  It's primarily the main reason why I'm still using the legacy app along with the current release.  When I work with my bills in Evernote, I generally make the Created Date be the statement date and then Updated Date is when I pay it.  It's very handy being able to update both.

    The announcement says:

NEW: More search options, including Boolean terms and geographic search to find precisely the information you need.

which doesn't suggest to me the withdrawal of advanced search options just the addition of Boolean search

Yeah I may have jumped the gun there.  My apologies.  I saw that in the plan comparison and assumed my saved searches were toast.  Good on them then.

  7. These are all valid points.  My impression from the emails was that Premium subscriptions wouldn't lose features.  But if I've lost the ability to use advanced search options, then that simply isn't true.  That is a feature lost.  When I saw "Use Boolean terms to refine search results" in the Professional section, I immediately thought, "Oh no, this is going to affect me isn't it?"

Happily it seems to be OK for me. I assume you have tried simply logging out and back in again. Also worth trying the web version. Otherwise I would raise a support ticket.

Good call Mike.  That was my problem. I completely closed the app and that did nothing.  Signing out and back in was the solution on the Windows and iOS clients for me.  Thanks!

  9. Currently running 10.10.5 on Mac OS 11.2.3
I know there is a newer version of the app out there, but when I manually Check for Updates, nothing happens.
This isn't the first time this has happened.

Anyone else seen this behavior?  Should I stick with the App Store version?  I've always been hesitant to use that version but if there's fundamentally no difference now, maybe I should give it a shot.

I can't find any ways to edit or remove tags either.  I'm a nee user but I'm also running MacBigSur.  Not able to right click on tags and there is no "Edit Tags" in any of the menus.  I had joined a shared notebook which had a ton of tags.  I've since left that notebook but cannot get rid of the tags.

In the left panel, click on Tags and there should be 3 dots (...) on each tag.  From there you can delete them, but I think you have to do it each one individually.

  11. Is anyone else having problems with the keyboard shortcut for Edit Tags (Ctrl+Opt+Cmd+T)?  I pulled up my keyboard viewer to make sure the buttons are all registering.  I verified that the popup functions when opening from the menu.  I just can't get the shortcut to trigger it.  I'm not seeing any other conflicts in system preferences.  Any other ideas?

I've also noticed that for me to add tags, I can't simply use (Cmd+').  I have to also use shift and hit (Cmd+").  When I was having these issues on my old MacBook Pro, I just assumed there was a weird compatibility issue.  Now I'm running on a brand new M1 MacBook Air that I haven't had time to crud up yet.

    Open to suggestions.

  12. I've been going back and forth so much between the previews, betas, release, and legacy versions, that I managed to ***** it up pretty good.  Ended up with a bad zombie note that was keeping me from syncing.  I uninstalled and then scoured my directories for everything related to Evernote.  Be sure to look in App_Data folders.  It wasn't until I completely nuked the site from outer space that I was able to get everything fixed.

They are very context specific and don't always work when you think they should, or even when the official list says they should. The bug with alt-ctrl-F not working when the sidebar is minimised is fixed (without any announcement obviously) so this should work provided you have the focus on the note list.

Similarly alt-ctrl-T will work if the focus is on the note in the notelist

F3 works either in edit mode or with the focus on the notelist.

Haha.  I read all that and still don't understand.  I mean how hard is this?  Make a keyboard shortcut that works no matter where you are in the app.

  14. Anyone have any ideas on dealing with the random crashes?  I can get it to crash every time I use it now, which is real helpful.  I really don’t want to uninstall and reinstall again since I’m trying to download my notes for offline use.

Including a video of the behavior.  It shows it crashing after submitting feedback.
