  1. I thought the most up-to-date version was Evernote_6.11.2 ?
  2. I downloaded version 6.6.4. It seems to be working fine. Any new note, or opened note, is in "active" mode immediately. So I don't need to kick-start it by clicking and prodding a few times. Thanks for that suggestion. It saved me a lot of possible experimentation ?
  3. I respectfully suggest that you mean 6.1.2.2292, which is in the list of previous versions here: https://filehippo.com/download_evernote/history/ I would be grateful if you could check whether a new window needs several clicks before it becomes "activated" so that you can see text being entered. See this post: Thanks.
  4. So what is the oldest version that you would still support? ? Thanks.
  5. I have EN version 6.11.2, on Win 10 Pro. Question 1: What is the earliest version of Evernote that would be supported by EN support - or even by the generous volunteers on this forum? On my old external backups, I can see Evernote_5.5.3.4236 Question 2: What is the earliest verion of Evernote that would still be compatible with my current database? In other words, if I connect an old version of EN to my current database, will something explode? Objective: I want to step backwards through my old versions until I find a version that does not have the following bug - which is beginning to drive me mad: https://discussion.evernote.com/topic/113093-cant-edit-note-on-first-click/ BTW: I'm not interested in any formatting features. None of my notes are formatted. Plain text, plus images, is fine by me.
  6. This bug has already been reported at least twice previously: The following post refers to yet another post: https://discussion.evernote.com/topic/113093-cant-edit-note-on-first-click/ Thanks.
  7. So, you should be able to restore it from your backups. But in the meantime, it might be a good idea to do nothing until one of the expert volunteers arrives. BTW: Many years ago, I taught myself never to leave text highlighted while doing something else. Use left arrow or right arrow to place the cursor at the start/finish of the highlight ready for your next action (if any).
  8. You don't need to do a manual comparison. Beyond Compare will compare the two folders in milliseconds, and highlight the changes. I'm too poor to be able to afford paid software, but I made an exception for BC after a comparison with the free WinMerge (which I thought was a good program). It cost me £30 about 15 years ago, and I've never updated. I use it several times a week, because my computers make lots of mistakes.
  9. I said in an earlier post: This is ambiguous. Sorry about that. The statement should have referred only to Sandboxie. So the correct statement is: Within Sandboxie, you can configure which files are allowed to access the internet: All files. No files. A list of files (whitelist), which would include "Evernote".
  10. The Sandboxie developers didn't say "no" to my suggestion. But they didn't say "yes" either: https://forums.sandboxie.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=25754 The important thing is that they didn't disagree with my description of how a sandbox handles files, and that the user has complete control over which files are allowed out of the sandbox (which of course is the whole purpose of any sandbox). If no files are allowed out of the sandbox, then the only communication between a sandbox and a laptop is synching via the internet - exactly the same as between a smart phone and a laptop.
  11. Just one more thing.... (Columbo). Before posting on the Sandboxie forum, I tried running one non-Sandboxed EN and one SB EN. (After backing up my database.), I tried various combinations of the following tests. To speed things up, I used manual synch in the window being edited, followed by a manual synch in the other (SB) window. So I've exceeded my free monthly allowance for the first time. Each synch is an upload ? Create new note on non-SB Create new note on SB Edit a note on SB Edit the same note on non-SB Edit a note on non-SB Edit the same note on SB The behaviour, IMHO, is clear and understandable. Adding something in one note causes the same text to be added to the other note. Conflicting notes are shown in the left panel and in the "Location column". Q: How do you know whether you're working in non-SB or SB? A: (1) On the taskbar, the icons are the same, except that the SB icon is preceded by "[#]". (2) The SB window has a yellow border. (Presumably yellow is chosen as the colour of sand). Each instance has its own Trash. I don't know how Trash is handled if you have two devices (laptop + phone). But maybe you should check each Trash before closing the SB instance. You should try this with fake notes as soon as possible. And if you're still worried about conflicts, you can disconnect from the internet, and close SB after use. Don't accept the offer to overwrite any of the non-SB files.
  12. I haven't tried to run a non-Sandboxie session and a Sandboxie session simultaneously. But AFAIK, there's no danger if the user does not actually change anything in the SB instance. AFAIK, here's how the process works. The non-SB EN uses all the normal files. When the SB EN starts life, all the current non-SB files are copied within the SB. After that, the files lead independent lives. If the user does not cause any files to be changed within the SB, the SB session can be closed at any time with no effect on the non-SB files. Assume that the user causes some files to be changed within SB. When the user closes the SB session, she is presented with a list of files that have changed during the session. She can then choose which of those files will overwrite the current non-SB files. IMHO, the safest options are either (a) to overwrite no files, or (b) to overwrite all changed files. In both cases, the result will be a consistent database, with no conflicts. Obviously option (a) would be chosen by the OP. Good point ? But, IMHO, the situation is no different to having one instance on your laptop and one instance on your phone. I admit that no-one is likely to make changes on both of these devices simultaneously. I'll run this suggestion past the SB forum, and get their opinions. Thanks.
  13. I think you can open a second instance inside the free Sandboxie. The two instances are independent - unless you deliberately choose to allow them to communicate. https://www.sandboxie.com/
  14. Based on DTLow's response, the net results of the complete series of operations can be expressed as follows: Zero ? I suspected that. But the only way to have proved it without wrecking my database, would have been to have opened a new account under a different email address.
  15. I'm replying to the most recent response first, because it fills a gap in the "prerequisites": Yes :-)
  16. Before anyone can step back, they need an earlier version to step back to ? For that reason, I haven't accepted ANY automatic update on any program for many years. As soon as I get the update notification, I cancel the notification and then visit the site to do a manual download. I keep several previous downloads. I then allow the generous forum users to let me know when the bugs in the latest version have been fixed. I always feel really bad about that. Many thanks for that guys ?
  17. I would be grateful for any help in understanding the following backup/restore scenario. The backup is a simple "folder" backup containing all the files in the "Databases" folder. Assume that my backup contains 3 notes: one note which is identical to a note in the current database (AKA the "common" note). One note which does not exist in the current database (the "old" note). One note which exists in both databases, but has been changed (the "changed" note) My current database contains 3 notes: The common note, the new note, and the changed note. Procedure: - Disconnect from internet. - Copy all the backup files to the "Databases" folder, thus overwriting all current files. - Restore internet connection. - Synch. Question: After the synch, what notes are now in the current Evernote? Thanks.
  18. I would like to report the same problem. I have EN 6.11.2 with Win 10 Pro. In my case, the reported bug is random. In other words, the bug either occurs or it does not occur. When the bug occurs, the following info applies. The details are the same irrespective of whether I open a new note, or a saved note. - On opening the note, there's a blinking cursor at top left of the note text pane. - A single press on any key, including Enter, causes the cursor to disappear. - Any further key presses, including the Enter key, do not cause the cursor to reappear. - A single click on the mouse causes the cursor to reappear. The cursor appears: (a) at the position of the insertion cursor (the pointer that looks like a girder) if there is text in the text pane or (b) at the top left of the note text pane if there's no text in the pane. --------------------------- The following comments might help the troubleshooting. -------------------------- The bug has been occurring for some time, and I've been too lazy to report it. I'm now wondering if the bug started at the same time as the fancy new indent that now appears automatically in a new note. -------------------------- There's another bug which is too minor to deserve its own post, but might help the troubleshooting. I hardly ever type directly online - I type in EN, then copy online. For example TenForums, gmail, StackOverflow, and so on. That prevents any disasters due to hitting the wrong key :-) So I prefer all plain text in EN, to avoid scr_wing up the formatting in the online target. [Actually, I originally typed an "e" where the underscore is, but EN substituted five stars :-) As an experiment, I typed "heck" and "blow", and "doggone", but these escaped unscathed. I'm surprised that "blow" is permitted.] So, for bullets in EN, I simply use the combination "space-dash-space", as in the bullets above. In any other HTML text, except EN, I can highlight "space-dash-space" and copy these three characters somewhere else. But in EN, the final space is dropped, so I end up with simply "space-dash". The same applies when I copy spaces between words in EN (but not in other HTML). If I "manually" highlight text by simply extending the highlight using "shift", then any final space that I manually include in the highlight is dropped after the copy. (Of course, double-clicking on a single word in Windows will always include any final space - I don't know about Linux, which is a more natural OS.) I'm not a techie, but IMHO the HTML used by EN causes non-standard handling of spaces. I think standard treatment is that REDUNDANT spaces are removed, so the EN HTML thinks that "space-dash-space" contains an extra space :-) If the HTML is in any way non-standard, that might be the cause of other strange behaviour, such as reported in this thread. Thanks.
  19. Ah, yes. Quite so. I must have drunk too much medicine last night after the Grand National :-) Thanks.
  20. I have EN 6.11.2 in Win 10 Pro. I prefer plain text formatting in EN, because I do a lot of copying to emails, Word, and so on. It seems to me that all these secondary programs render formatting in different ways. Even different forums have different methods of rendering formatting. I seem to remember a few months ago that EN translated "-----" into a single full-page line. But I'm sure I found an option to disable that feature. So far, it has not returned. Maybe I'm thinking about a different forum :-) Now, I'm trying to avoid translating "space-dash-space" into a bullet, complete with indentation. I think a developer should be free to use whatever defaults she prefers, but I also think that there should be options to opt out of ANY or ALL defaults. Thanks.
  21. . Thanks @jefito. That's a very clear and succinct description of the distinction. .
  22. OK. Found it. There's a grid icon to the left of the search box
  23. I've found someone else from 2014 who can see a "Snippet View". I have the buckshee Evernote. Maybe you guys have the rich man's person's version? .
  24. . Thanks for the prompt response. I have a sneaking feeling of deja vu all over again (like Yogi Berra). I'm sure I've been over this ground before. I think my response a couple of years ago was that my "View" menu does not seem to look like other people's View menu (see my screenshot). You can see that "Note Panel" is clicked, and causes it to appear on the right. If I click every option in my View menu, I don't see any Snippet View, Card View, etc. I would be grateful if you could use the "action-oriented" method of giving instructions (Verb + Object), as in Click this, Type that, Select the other, etc Thanks again. .
