  1. I love that feature and use it a lot. Just goes to show you how we use Evernote differently. That said, I still miss the back arrow and hope you are able to bring it back. Equally, I have noticed that Evernote isn’t the only app that disappeared the back button so I have to wonder if that change is something iOS 11 is causing apps to do.
  2. I think I found something in preferences (on Mac) to make it so it does NOT start where it left off which would work for the issue you are describing. There may also be a setting for not showing the new note. I know it is now not quite as obnoxious as it used to be so I must have found something. I also now use Spark Mail; not Postbox. The link the other guy posted was of no help at all and did not even address what I was writing about. I was surprised because that guy is usually better than that.
  3. Rats! It is set that way. Maybe I clipped these from when I was using the Windows app (which we can now no longer download at work) or the web app (which I am now forced to use at work) or sent if from another app. I will have to watch. Thank you for your reply! I had not been able to find it and did not think to look in the clipping section (or thought I had looked). It is odd that option is in clipping since it really is a VIEW option as that most of us put info into Evernote from so many sources.
  4. I must be missing something! At least I hope I am! I can no longer find where to set it so Evernote on the Mac shows attachments inline by default. Some of my notes show them that way but a lot of others show them as an icon. This is happening most notably on pdfs and images. I am a Premium or whatever it is called nowadays subscriber so this should work.
  5. Thank you Onat! I do not have much need for this at the moment. (I actually started using other apps for the purpose since it was not possible in Evernote.) But I will check out your web app when I get a chance.
  6. Thank you! That is a great idea to use a bit.ly link! I hadn't thought of that.
  7. Thank you. I read through the posts at the links you gave. Interesting that everyone who was chiming in was looking for Google et al TO index instead of to NOT be indexed. I also noticed that the posts are from 2011 and 2012. Have you done any recent testing? I will keep an eye on the notebook I am sharing and test it every once in a while. I can just pull the notebook if I find that it is being indexed. Thanks again.
  8. Title says it all! When I change a notebook from Private to Public - does that mean the Notebook is made available to search engines? I want to share a notebook with class members but some of the material is special things our professor has shared with us. Am I exposing her information to being indexed by Google or other search engines?
  9. I may be wrong but am pretty sure that sharing of a notebook is not available on the free version. You can share notes but not a notebook. (But maybe that has changed. I could not tell from the Plan comparison.)
  10. I am in a course at a university and would like to share a notebook with just my classmates. I cannot see how to do that in a safe manner. I do not want it findable by outside people: How safe is a public link? Are public notebooks findable by people who do not have the specific link to the notebooks. I do NOT want to make people join Evernote. I want classmates to be able to view it just on the web without having to be logged in. That appears to work fine with the "public" link. I invited my pen name to join the notebook to test it out. NOT going to use that method!! (Evernote sent an email that had NO link to the notebook. Only a "Reply in Evernote" which opened WorkChat on the web. (I HATE WorkChat! Largely because Evernote has tried to force it on us!) Thanks for any clarity you can provide!
  11. @onatbas That would be great if you would do that. Jackolicious suggested that on page 1 of this thread but I did not/do not have the skill to create such a thing. Thank you. Ps. It appears that Jackolicious (who was the SVP in charge of the Mac version of Evernote) has moved on to Butter.ai - looks like it could be an interesting endeavor.
  12. Isn't there some developer out there that can follow these directions and make an Evernote add on with a read-only template? https://dev.evernote.com/doc/articles/read_only_notes.php
  13. Pat, I can see that the "Modified Date" changes every time a note is used. But the Creation Date should remain the same. Are you having trouble with that getting corrupted? BTW, if anyone read/remembers my earlier posts regarding the song book use . . . I did flee Evernote for that use. Two good digital songbooks are OnSong (which is only an iOS app but does have a Console that can be used on Windows or Mac) and Songbook by LinkeSOFT. Both have their pros and cons but I think OnSong is a little better than Songbook.
  14. Help! How do I turn off the behavior of Evernote opening a newly created note? It used to be that I could email in a note, or click on the elephant icon in Postbox and the note would get created in the back ground. Not true any longer. No matter how I create a note Evernote takes over my computer, opens the program, and opens the new note in a new window. It completely disrupts whatever else I am working on. How can I turn that default off?
  15. I have been watching the changes at/on Evernote with concern for quite a while. The people who need to read this thread are not Jackolicious, SoftwareMarcus, or whatever other employees are here. It is the top management that needs to be reading it. @JMichael, @PhilMoore, and I are all on the early beta test team. When you have three of your most stalwart supporters/power users trying to sound the alarm (repeatedly) someone needs to start listening. The Evernote Management Team is acting like a desert pack rat always going after the new shiny thing it finds and forgetting about the other items it has in its possession!! Oooo! Let's add sharing! Oooo! Let's add chat! Oooo! Oooo! The big problem is that all the new shiny things are: Breaking core functionalities that users have depended on - making Evernote less useful. Bloating Evernote so it is slowing down considerably - making Evernote less useful. Breaking TRUST! - making Evernote less useful. The last one is the big one!! Evernote built itself on that fact that users became loyal and stayed with Evernote. Remember the slide that Phil used to pull out to show Evernote's "All Cohorts Return Users"? That is what should still be happening! And with all the bloatware that you are adding, I am not sure that you are going to be able to convert new users to long-term premium users. Especially if some strong competition comes along. And OneNote is hot on your tail. I already find myself rarely recommending Evernote! Why? Because what I was recommending was a phenomenal piece of software that allows a user to "Remember Everything". It was the ultimate for gathering information from everywhere and storing it in an easily retrievable manner. Now that is no longer Evernote's tag line, nor its focus. But the problem is Evernote is also NOT what the new tag line says: "For everything you'll do, Evernote is the workspace to get it done." Get it done only if you want to move at a snail's pace and have functionality you depend on jerked out in favor of the next new shiny stuff. The fact that discussions are cropping up in Evernote User groups on LinkedIn and elsewhere comparing OneNote and even giving instructions on how to migrate over all your notes should be setting off alarm bells that something is going sour! But it seems that upper management thinks that the alarm bells mean they need to add more shiny items to the program. No! Reality is, when software is functioning well people are not looking to switch!! I wish I thought this post was going to be utilized and shift Evernote back onto a more stable path. But I doubt it.
  16. @TNMerrell & @StickerGuy, Hopefully someone from the Evernote Mac Team replied directly to both of you by now. But since I do not see an answer here, I will reply. Sorry that I just saw this. I had the same issue. Here is what I had to do. First, if you have any LOCAL notebooks, back them up on a thumb drive or some other external back up. If all your notebooks are the normal synced kind then all your data is backed up on the Evernote server so you do not need to do anything special. Use AppCleaner ( http://www.freemacsoft.net/appcleaner/ ) to completely remove Evernote. Or another uninstaller but this is the one Jackolicious recommended to me. Note, this app will really clean out every shred of Evernote. Then reinstall Evernote from the link above. You will need to log in after Evernote downloads. Then it will need to download all your notes. I have almost 6000 notes and I was actually surprised at how fast the download was. But I would still recommend doing this removal and reinstall when you have some time.Note, following these steps above is also a good way to go if you want to revert to an earlier version of Evernote. HTH!
  17. There seems to be no way at all to create a note without the whole Evernote screen opening up. Saving a note using QuickNote from the task bar is now doing it too. Opening a new note window using keystrokes has been doing it for quite a while now.
  18. Checks in check boxes still hard to see. Reality is, many of us have been complaining about that and begging for that fix for quite a while now! I am assuming this design has something to do with the app you have designed for Apple watch. Could you at least make them darker gray for the Mac version?
  19. when i double-click on a note - it opens in a new window. when I right-click it says "Open Note in Separate Window" Looks like it's only available via the Note List now. In the last version, it was also available in the Note menu. I remember getting annoyed with the placement of the feature in versions before it was added to the Note menu because there would be many times when the note I wanted to open in a new window was the one being displayed on the right at times when that note was not currently in view in the Note List on the left (either because it was scrolled away or because I got to the note via clicking on a note link). I was really happy when it was added to the Note menu, and now it looks like I'm going to be unhappy again - unless there has been some change in behavior that will cause the note on the right to be visible in the Note List more often for me. You can still open the note in a separate window by using holding Command/Option/Control down at the same time and hitting N. The problem is that always opens the whole Evernote window up first and then slooowly opens the new note. By the time the new note opens (and you have closed the Evernote window so you can see the screen you were actually working on) . . . you may have forgotten what you wanted to type in the new note!! The open note in new window is one of the features that I use the most in Evernote! So I am sorely missing the ease with which it used to work. The way it works now it breaks the work flow big time! QuickNote does NOT replace the new note function because it is too limited; for instance there is no way to put in lists, or any of the other features in a normal new note.
  20. @Nancy, where is the correct place to post for Mac 5.7.0 (451010)? Hmmm is that actually the regular public released version now? The issues I mentioned above are on the Mac. They were issues in the private beta and do not appear to have been addressed. I really do not use the web client a whole lot so have never volunteered to be part of that beta group. Thanks, Viv Ilo
  21. Jack, Nancy, or someone on the team, Could you please help us out with what we need to report and what not? I agree with Phil & Chinarut that some kind of bug tracking system that only beta testers can post to would be most helpful. Even if you limit just to the small group who are in the private beta test group and continue to help test on the public beta. We want to help! That is why we do this. But I feel I am repeatedly reporting the same issues!! And frankly, my time is worth more than that!! When creating a new note using Command/Option/Control/N - the main Evernote window opens up behind the new note . . . every single time - occluding the whatever screen(s) are open on the desktop. This forces the user to stop what they are doing, manually close or minimize the Evernote main window yet again, and then pick up their thoughts where they were, and finally to type something in the new note. This continued issue is a big enough problem for me that I have started using text edit instead of Evernote!! At least there I can make outlines and lists on the fly. QuickNote does NOT replace the new note function because it is too limited; for instance there is no way to put in lists, or any of the other features in a normal new note. Checks in check boxes still hard to see. Could you at least make them darker gray? I am assuming this design has something to do with the app you have designed for Apple watch.
  22. I see that 5.7 was just released a couple of hours ago. So I will see if the issues still remain and then post over there if they do.
  23. No. I do not feel it is a public topic. I am not at all suggesting a public bug tracking system!! In fact I think that would be a terrible idea and not at all good for Evernote in regards of marketing or image. I am specifically requesting one for those of us who are Private Beta Testers and who continue to test the most recent beta - even when it is a public beta. Because there is no bug tracking system that we as private beta testers can see, we have to keep reporting the same issues. Phil & ChinaRut are addressing the same issue above.
  24. Jack, could you please help us out with what we need to report and what not? I agree with Phil that some kind of bug tracking system that beta testers can post to would be most helpful. We want to help! That is why we do this. But I feel I am repeatedly reporting the same issues!! And frankly, my time is worth more than that!! When creating a new note using Command/Option/Control/N - the main Evernote window opens up behind the new note . . . every single time - occluding the screen already open on my desktop, forcing me to close or minimize the Evernote main window yet again, and completely interrupting my thought flow. QuickNote does NOT replace the new note function because it is too limited; no way to put in lists, or any of the other features in a normal new note. #1 is bad enough for me that I have started using text edit. At least there I can make outlines and lists on the fly. Cannot drag and drop into an Evernote. It does not work from iPhoto (and it used to). Often does not even work from File Manager. Checks in check boxes still hard to see. Could you at least make them darker gray? I am assuming this design has something to do with the app you have designed for Apple watch.
  25. @jbignert Dittoing the issue stefanwrobel is seeing. After upgrading to the newest beta I see no way of turning off simultaneous search. And the simultaneous search is driving me crazy!! Evernote employees, just curious - are you able to "see" the number of users who enable or disable that "feature"? Is it actually popular? Or does it default to ON and there are just a large percentage of people who can't figure out how to turn it off? I'm truly sort of curious about the percentage of users who may actually like that feature.
