Buggy and slow on intel Mac

Ever since the latest update, EN on my 2014 iMac has become virtually unusable; it's jittery, slow & scrolling takes an age. It works perfectly fine on my M1 MacBook Air and works just the same (never great) on my iPad. I have tried force-quitting the app, re-starting my Mac, but nothing seems to work. Anyone else?

Opened up EN on my Mac this morning to find that tasks won't open, went onto the app store, updated to the latest only to find that they still won't open, just a constant spinning wheel. No such problem on IOS.
