  1. A "public" company is one that has shareholders as opposed to one that is privately held. It refers to the company's stock being publicly traded on a stock market. It does not mean it has received government funds. Mind you, I don't know if Evernote is privately held or public (don't actually care).
  2. Because Evernote has not chosen to make nested notebooks a feature. It's not their organizational model.
  3. If I'm away from my computer for two minutes, the screen locks and a password is required. (Depending on circumstances, I may also use Fast User Switching to switch to the unpasswreded guest account) I fail to see how having to remember to close out Evernote every time I walk away from the computer is any more secure. However, we can argue this until the cows come home. Unless and until Evernote implements the feature you want, your option is to use a passcode on your computer. Best of luck.
  4. I know it's true of Macs and I believe it's also true of Windows that you can have different user accounts on the computer. My user account is password protected. If someone else uses my computer, I switch to the guest account for them. Not only can they not see my Evernote account, they also can't see any of my other personal documents.
  5. Evernote staff reads these posts, even if they don't always respond.
  6. Neither BnF nor jefito work for Evernote. They can't say what Evernote is planning. And what Evernote says is "We don't make our roadmap public".
  7. I find hierarchical systems cumbersome, difficult to maintain and almost impossible to ever find things in again. I end up spending to much time trying to figure out the right place to put things or remember what I thought was the right place a year ago. Notebooks and tags are simple, and allow multiple ways of cataloging the same item. I spend much less time filing and more time using my information. I could probably ditch notebooks entirely and go with tags. I get the impression the people who designed Evernote have a similar take on the matter. This view point is precisely why I use Evernote. I chose not to use programs the force me in to what is for me an artificial outline format. I don't spend time trying to get the developers of those programs to emulate Evernote.
  8. All of which might be a valid point if EN had infinite resources. You apparently missed the rest of my post where I stated that I didn't care if they added additional levels of hierarchy unless the time spent on that detracted from other things. They're a small company. I'd hate to see them waste time becoming like other programs when the direction they're going in suits me so well. We will have to agree to disagree.
  9. Funny, I keep getting the sense that people who want a more defined hierarchy seem to think that their way is the only valid way. If how EN has chosen to do things doesn't work for you AND they've said they don't really intend to change, why are you continuing to frustrate yourself by trying to use the wrong tool?
  10. You can chose which pages to upload as well. I frequently just upload a set of pages with the notes from the current meeting
  11. Yes, entirely old school. Reqall, another web based task manager has some Evernote integration and is, in theory, a great system. However, I found it had some glitches that in was not able to get resolved to my satisfaction. Too bad, as I like the Evernote integration feature (when it worked right).
  12. I actually do much the same thing for much the same reason. People seem less put off if I'm writing than typing. Also, I can doodle! Mostly, I use NoteTaker HD, though, occasionally Noteshelf. I don't do a lot of editing afterwards so I don't find that to be a big problem. I transfer my action items to Remember The Milk and my appointments to my calendar and just keep the notes for reference. For large projects, I'll create a notebook and just add additional notes with further information.
