The new font is lovely and called Inter.

It apparently uses more of the space to create letter so it appears more readable.

Nasa apparently use it on some of their consoles!!

I wrote a bit about the new font a couple of paragraphs down on this page.

Thank you so much for sharing.  You have a great blog post.  I am confused about one thing though.  If that is the font Evernote uses, why does it show up as "Sans Serif" on Evernote?

  2. Hi I loved the new typeface/font in the latest major update.  I understand it is supposed to be Sans Serif.  But there is something different about it when I use the light background theme.  I can't place a finger on it.  Is it something to do with the background, or is it the type face (leaner, crisper version of sans Serif?).  Does anyone have a clue?

Update:  10.61.5 (with prior version & data removed before install) has positively resolved data loss I referred to as "tail clipping".  Have run a week now without a single instance of trouble.  "Slow new-note" issue was simultaneously resolved by same update.

@loriewa @coffeefirstthing are you running a "clean install" (logout with data-wipe) of 10.61.5?  Your issue sounds precisely like my erstwhile issue, mine resolved instantly with 10.61.5 clean install.

    /Schooner

hey can you or anyone describe what you mean by a clean install.  I have faced lot of missing content from notes.  Do you mean full removal of existing evernote and then a download/install of 61.5?  Or do you mean something else.

  4. I have an excel file where one of the columns has internal note links to the evernote notes.  I want this link to open the relevant note in the native Evernote desktop app. When I click on them, they just take me to the currently open Evernote main page in the Evernote desktop app.  But they don't take me to the specific note.  What can I do to correct this behavior?

  5. Is there anyway to leave the cursor position in its logical place after a search or navigation shortcut?  Two examples where it doesn't behave intuitively or in a user-friendly way:

    1) Evernote 10+ has these cool shortcuts.  One of them I frequently use is Ctrl + Alt + 2 which displays the side view of notes list. However if I then press down or up arrow to go through the side list, it doesn't work because the list is not in active foreground position.  I have to use the mouse to click on that side list before I can use the arrows.

    2) When you try to find something in the note, after you get the results, you would expect the cursor to be there so you can start scrolling or writing using your keyboard.  At least that is how it was with Evernote legacy. In legacy, you could escape out of the search result but your last search position wasn't lost and you could just go from there. And it was fantastic.  With Evernote 10+, it will show you the results but if you escape out of the search result and just use keyboard it takes you to previous position or the top of the note, not to the last searched result position.  So you have to remember to use your mouse to click on the last searched result before escaping out of the search window.

Does anyone have any thoughts or solutions to above?

There seem to be Android versions that do not support legacy any longer. At least this was reported in the forum.

If this is true, it means no mor legacy - EN made it clear they will not do anything on the end of life clients.

I would say „ give it a try“. If the client installs and does not crash, think about the device limit if on Free,

If only the login fails, it may well be You are exceeding the device limit.

My login fails. I am on the paid personal plan. And acc to Evernote, I can synch across unlimited devices.

  7. An update.  I was coasting along great with the apkmirror legacy app.  It was such a relief.  I bought a new galaxy phone. With the latest android version 11.  Doesn't work anymore. Android 11 does not support legacy. So if legacy is important to you, do not purchase a new smart phone...lol. This was the second to last straw on the camel's cart before I jump ship.

  8. Hi there, how do I make dollar sign be recognized in my search syntax? For e.g. I have entered some stocks I own with their ticker symbol and dollar sign before it.  However, when searching for them, the search ignores the dollar sign, even when I put the whole thing in quotes.  For e.g. consider the Citibank stock symbol C.  Because it is such a common occurrence, I have put $ infront of it with the hope that search will only pick it up instead of a bazillion notes with letter "C".  Hence $C.  However, when I search for $C, Evernote returns all notes with the letter C.  Then I put quotes around $C.  Still no bueno.  What should I be doing to make Evernote search both the characters - $C?

  9. I am talking about search inside a note.  My point is that once the search finds something, it highlights it, but it does not place the cursor at the highlight, like legacy used to do.  The workaround is to use your mouse to click on that highlight first, before hitting escape.  I don't like that workaround because now I have to use the mouse, which I didn't have to in legacy.

  10. This is a pet peeve for me now.  When I find something in the note, back in legacy I could press esc and close away the find box, and the cursor would stay at the same place where it found my search result in the note.  This was extremely helpful.  But now in the new version, as soon as I close the find box after finding something in the note, Evernote simply takes me to the top of the note, losing the place where I found my search result.  Ugh.  Is there a hack or am I doing something wrong to get the legacy functionality?

  11. I am not finding anything equivalent in the new 10 version to open a searched note into a new window, like I was able to in legacy.  Here are the steps I find the note after typing some keywords in search note. I click on the note.  The note opens but in a different layout than my usual layout.  In this different layout the note list view disappears.  Only the searched note and the dark side bar are displayed.  Okay no big deal, I say, I will just open the note in a new window and somehow I would be able to get back to my note list view in the original Evernote window.  But I can't open the new note in a new window, unless I use my mouse.  That's a pain.  Any hacks or keyboard shortcuts that you know can help me?

If you want to do it without using the mouse then alt-ctrl-4 is the shortcut for notes

Yes you sensed me right. I don't want to use the mouse.  When I use alt-ctrl-4 as you suggested, it takes me to the list of notebooks.  But because of your nudge, I found out that ctrl-alt-2 is what I use to get to the list of notes. Thank you.  I was hoping for more like a legacy behavior.  But this will work.

Me too.  It's still fairly easy to step back in Desktop and Android should you make a mistake,  but obviously better not to have to do so.  The problem is,  I think,  that with the huge number of users Evernote has,  across all sorts of networks and devices,  identifying a small number of causes for something as generic as 'slow' is always going to be difficult.  We can only hope that they eventually find a way to speed thins up to an acceptable level.  Otherwise it's a question of where to go next.... 😕

@gazumped am I interpreting you correctly here?  Are you saying that there is a way to go back to legacy in Android too?  Please enlighten me!  Just went back to legacy with Evernote on one of my laptops after getting frustrated with 10  over a month now.  But don't know what to do with my Android version.

    About your initial question: No.

The forum is user to user. Staff may show by, but it is rather sporadic.

    About your second question:

If you intend to stick with legacy, upgrading makes little sense - AFAIK the specific Professional features will not work with that client. So another issue settled.

Thank you for sharing the legacy download link.  It says this legacy version can co-exist with new version.  So that's what i am gonna do.  Would you know if each of them have their own separate local databases?

I am in SW architecture. I can understand what happened. The Evernote Team wanted to line everything up from a clean and uniform new base, same for all platform etc... But no one considered the performance aspect, for legacy users being with more than 1,000 notes (not mentionning those > 10,000...).

No one at Evernote considered that acceptable latency thresholds would be 2x or 3x crossed.

No one at Evernote considered that the SW would become ultimately unusable.

The issue is that there is generally no way back beyond this point, since the performance issue is intimately tight to architecture choices that were made. Unfortunately I don't expect miracles here.

This!  Evernote staff, are you reading this?  Frustrated with so many performance issues.  Even trying to press search within a note, I have to wait a couple of seconds before Evernote allows the cursor to be active and the search criteria to be typed.  This is when the last straw hit on my camel's cart! Now have to figure out how to get back to 6.25.  In parallel, Evernote marketing team very casually sends me emails to upgrade from premium to professional.  Nicely done - left hand and right hand of Evernote!

I believe this is what we in the technical community refer to as 'something bad happened with the update'.  Try uninstalling and reinstalling the app from Evernote.com?

No bueno.  I uninstalled and reinstalled.  It behaved nicely for couple of days.  Then it went back to asking if I wanted to update to latest version.  I thought there genuinely was a latest version.  So I said yes  It "installed and updated".  Next time I restart Evernote, it again asks me the same.  And it was the same install.  And ever time the computer restarts or evernote app restarts, it keeps asking me.  Frustrating.  What am I missing?  I want to avoid a complete uninstall and wipe of database if it could be helped.

This change has been present since the switch to version 10.  There is no setting in v10 to achieve this. I suspect that this will never return but I could be wrong ;)

Your only option is to go back to the legacy version if this is key to your workflow.

Thank you.  Do you know what is the legacy version I should go to?  A related question - I read somewhere that the new V10 changed data structures.  If I went back to legacy, am I at the risk of losing something?  (Maybe not because everything is in the cloud but just wanted to know)

  18. Hi before the upgrade, the note would take on the first line as the default title.  This was extremely useful and saved lot of time separately clicking on Title first and putting something there.  I noticed after the upgrade that this is no longer the default setting.  Is there anything in the settings I can change to revert back to how it was in the legacy?
