  1. > I'm not sure that that could be technologically feasible, absent some kind of mind-reading chip Not a mind-reading chip — you’re misunderstanding my question. This type of tracking is a common requirement of document management systems, and usually involves a bar code sticker or an OCR zone where each student (cf. worker) makes his or her “mark” (say, by filling in a bubble, ScanTron style). As a comparison, RocketBook does this already — using a checkmark in one of eight zones to target different storage services. But it won’t do Evernote tagging.
  2. I want things I scan to automatically get a tag for “student’s name.” Is there some way I can mark the student’s papers — with a bar code, or a checkmark in a certain spot, or a big number in the upper left that will get OCR’d — anything, really! — so that a corresponding tag will get applied to the Evernote note when it’s scanned? I’ve looked at some integrations (Rocketbook) but haven’t found anything quite there yet. I’m open to workflow thoughts, too! Many thanks, g.
  3. There need to be way more external keyboard shortcuts! Specifically, please add an "edit tags" shortcut... but then, just, *lots* more. g.
  4. I'm all for more keyboard shortcuts and on-screen shortcuts... but really, *everyone* should carry an external keyboard, or have a keyboard case. An iPad isn't very useful without it.
  5. Sorry, i should have worded that better. Please — may we have our tags be more prominent?
  6. Can we see our tags without having to press (i)? Tagging is incredibly powerful and efficient, but it’s pretty hard to get to them.
  7. I would love the ability to create custom keyboard shortcuts -- not only for the existing commands, but as a shortcut for "assign a (specific) tag" and "move to a (specific) notebook." For example, Ctrl+Alt+F would move the selected note to my "Filed" notebook -- that kind of thing. On a related note, who decided that the shortcut for assign tag (Ctrl+Alt+T) would have different modifiers from assign notebook (Shift+Alt+M). These activities are part of the same workflow -- the modifiers should be the same. (Imagine if Copy and Paste were Ctrl+C and Shift+Alt+V -- it's cognitively jarring.) g.

  9. Is anyone else having trouble with the note editor using the new version? Editing plain text with simplified formatting is excruciating -- after each keypress is about 750 milliseconds of dead time before a response. I don't see any posts about this -- is it just me?
  10. It seems to be related to synching -- somehow if you enable the notifications the app can synch in the background. I haven't seen that in other apps (some apps use geolocation to enable background processing), but I don't think EN really cares if you have "real" notifications -- the point is to add the background synch. So if it were me, I'd turn on notifications but turn off popups, sounds, banners, and so on. But that's just a guess.
  11. I'm a little confused by all the concerns. EN has just announced they're letting Google take over the backend stuff -- crazy-expensive things like load balancing and redundancy and scaling and such. Thank goodness, I say. This isn't the Google that does your searches, really -- this is Google backend, like Microsoft Cloud and Amazon WS and a bunch of others. They're just the truck drivers in this scenario, but the truck remains locked. And EN can concentrate on the cargo rather than truck maintenance.
  12. If you're looking for a workaround, try if-this-then-that (it's an app and IFTTT.com) -- it will let you automatically post items you've "saved for later" to Evernote.
  13. Could we have an editor for the created/modified dates on the iPad, like we do on the desktop app? Thanks for considering! g.
  14. Oh, attached documents are searched? I was under the impression they were not, but most of my note-taking is text-based. There, that is an excellent feature. Thanks, g.
  15. Um, that wasn't my question. And I do use it, madly and often. My question is what features EN brings to the table that GMail or GDocs don't already provide. Offline notebooks, native apps -- anything else?
  16. I love me some Evernote, but it just sort of struck me that I couldn't really think of anything it does -- except offline notebooks -- that I couldn't do myself with a dedicated GMail account. Thoughts? g.
  17. If I want to share a notebook with my wife (and make it modifiable), do we both need premium accounts? Or just the sharer, or just the shareee? Thanks, g.
