  1. Here is a screen shot showing View and Status Bar. This turns on the 2nd method mentioned above.
  2. I prefer the 2nd method because it is applied to the bottom of all my notes. In this screen capture, the word count is 90, character count is 599
  3. First method - From the menu, click on NOTE, then WORD AND RESOURCE COUNTS (see Screen 1). The WORD AND RESOURCE COUNTS is a pop-up (see Screen 2)
  4. There are two methods with Evernote Windows. >Note >Word & Resource Counts And you can have a brief summary at the bottom of every note >View >Show Status Bar
  5. Remember the good old days: Flickr was founded in 2004. Flickr states it has over 120 million users on its landing page. To attract more customers, a few years ago Flickr promoted 1 TeraByte (TB) of storage for all its plans. It's that simple, there were no upgrades or add-ons to get more than 1 TB. Whether you had a free or paid Flickr account made no difference, every account got 1 TB. Today: Nevermind!
  6. The Flickr death knell sounded today. You either pay $50 each year or face the consequences. Members with more than 1,000 photos or videos uploaded to Flickr have until Tuesday, January 8, 2019, to upgrade to Pro or download their content that exceeds the limit. After February 5, 2019, free accounts that contain over 1,000 photos or videos will have content actively deleted -- starting from oldest to newest date uploaded -- to meet the new limit. Dang!
  7. And immediately locked down to prevent user sentiment on the post.
  8. I resolved one of Stacey's main concerns several years ago with a simple naming convention. One of her first examples is how easy it is to create four tags inadvertently. Receipt, Receipts, receipt, receipts This does not happen to me because I use a simple rule. Tags are always lower case and singular.
  9. I also use a vendor tag (company name) for my receipts. But 1.) how do you use a Budget category tag? And 2.) how do you handle receipts with multiple Budget categories?
  10. There is no built-in Evernote feature to find duplicates. Are you talking about hundreds of duplicates or just a handful? I'd sort through recent notes (sorted by created date). Perhaps the most recent 30 days or so. If I couldn't find any, then I would not worry about it. A few duplicate notes won't adversely affect Evernote. If there are some, eventually I would stumble across them. Then I'd have a better clue where the other duplicates are located.
  11. That is your opinion. My opinion is clicking the "X" is the solution. Click it and it is gone. Not a big deal. No nagging.
  12. Instead of Optimistic, Clever, Confident, and Clear They should have gone with: Cheerful, Clever, Confident, and Clear Thank you, thesaurus
  13. Been down this road before. I remember when our corporation was taken over back in 2000. A very expensive and well known high-priced global management consulting firm with offices in 60 countries was retained to work on the brand and goals. People from all departments were pulled from their jobs to work on a variety of "teams". After 6 months of research and frequent off-site brainstorming, we came up with a mission statement which was launched with much fanfare and hype. Results? The company was sold two more times in the next three years. Evernote boiled a similar exercise down to four rather forgettable words: Optimistic, Clever, Confident, and Clear Really?
  14. TBH, IMO, IRL I think you nailed Evernote's evasiveness 100%. Thank you for the explanation. But in my case, all my other programs run smoothly. I'll just keep brewing my cups of coffee when Evernote decides to not respond. MTFBWY
  15. After several support requests to address the sluggishness, I have not seen Evernote recommend this option. I haven't seen it suggested by Evernote in their blog posts. If HDD's are the culprit, why is Evernote so silent? If it was the solution, Evernote should make a formal statement and tell users to switch to SSD's.
  16. I've been in the same sluggish boat for the past couple years. Downgrading to an older version (released 9 months ago) has helped. When it gets really bad, I'll get up and make a cup of coffee. My other technique is to work with two monitors. When Evernote decides to get finicky, I use the other monitor and check up on the news.
  17. Thanks for including the Evernote explanation. It reminds me of a similar explanation: The fictional Retro Encabulator device, which uses six hydrocoptic marzel vanes and an ambifacient lunar wane shaft to prevent unwanted side fumbling.
  18. Evernote does not permit me to view some of my past posts, but I saved some off-line in January 2012. Here is a comment on the 75-pixel barrier used with the Largest Smallest discusion. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Evernote User: Subject: Evernote User Forum 75 pixels is the smalled dimension allowed in a thumbnail The thumbnail in the Snippet view is a powerful way to quickly scan my notes. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - My comment: I was able to duplicate the 75-pixel barrier. 136 x 75 pixels - yes - the image showed up 134 x 74 pixels - no - the image did not show up By the way, I was surprised how well the 75-pixel thumbnail showed up in Evernote. I am adding this to the Evernote rule about the " largest smallest" dimension.
  19. I saved a few of the laughable posts about the largest smallest dimensions from 7 years ago. Here is one. Posted 01 July 2011 - 07:42 AM jbenson2 said: The largest smallest dimension? - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Evernote Response: Yeah. For example, if you have 3 images with the following dimensions: 75x100 100x400 200x300 The "smallest" dimensions are 75, 100, and 200, respectively. We're going to use the image with the largest of those "smallest" dimensions (i.e., 200). There are probably better ways to describe that algorithm, but that's how we've been describing it internally.
  20. 6.5.4 was released back in March of 2017. Blessed free of emojis. I can't say what you lose because there have been so many tweaks to the program since then and at least 8 major GA releases. I did the uninstall but did not wipe the database. So the new installation seemed to accept my data with no major problems. People had trouble with it back when it was released, but not to the magnitude of the current versions.
  21. I agree. 10 years with Evernote, and nearly 50,000 notes, I'm in the same predicament. After countless hours of frustration, I finally bit the bullet and dropped down to Version 6.5.4
  22. I found data export was the least of my problems. The big issue was efficiently putting all that data back to work again.
  23. Over the past 35 years, I have become used to moving my data from program to program. Back in the 1980's, I started my data collecting with a DOS-based program called Lotus Agenda. It was a product ahead of its time, but Lotus could not handle the cross-over when Windows came on the scene. I migrated to Lotus Symphony for several years. Then I switched to a 10-year-long love affair with Goldmine. They merged with Frontrange and dropped some huge price bombs which caused my exit. For 3 years, I switched over to Salesforce.com. Back in July 2008, I made the switch to Evernote with a Fujitsu ScanSnap. As late as 2013, I was still manually pulling stuff from Frontmine Goldmine and pasting it into Evernote. Each transition was difficult and I know I lost information each time. But the increased efficiencies and search capabilities made it worth the change. I hope this is my last change, but if necessary, I am prepared to make another swap. And I believe Evernote understands this.
  24. In my opinion, this is a smoke screen. The voting program was launched by Evernote a couple years ago. Several people immediately predicted the weakness of such a system. And now those weaknesses have been proven correct. I never use the voting system. It is pointless. Voting has to be reminded over and over again by a few power users. Voting validity is questionable on the original post when the ongoing discussion evolves into a different topic. Voting is not effective when the original post contains several specific issues. Voting is duplicated when multiple threads cover the same subject. Other than the typical pre-recorded answering phone service response "Your call [vote] is important. Thank you" I have not seen any formal analysis from Evernote on the actual effectiveness of this voting system.
  25. The problem with downgrading, to avoid the PDF viewing problem, is you lock yourself out from any future improvements. Companies promote the benefits and features of their products. Is there any Evernote documentation that tells us why they believe the new PDF system is better than the old one?
