  1. thank you @s2sailor & @PinkElephant & @VincentC! It is working now. I think the same thing is about to happen to my other computer. I wonder if they changed something in the software that is exacerbating something. I guess this was a good exercise as I think somehow during many software changes I wound up with multiple copies of the database. It cleaned 210gb. 🙂
  2. ok .. THX!. I have one question - does this wipe your data? I have run it and it says it found 210gb. (There must be duplicate databases there.)
  3. Hello, Am in emergency mode as Evernote is now suddenly not working. Everything was fine- but then the main window went blurry and a pop up came: "Something when wrong on our end, sorry about that. Please try restarting Evernote" with 2 options Restart/Quit. I have done both, I have killed the process. I have rebooted. I have downloaded (again) the latest version and restarted. Nothing works. When it starts - I can see the window fine - with all the notes etc... but then within 2 seconds it goes blurry and evernote is frozen. I have submitted a report to evernote. But how do you know if there are any humans who care, who look at them and respond? I am in a horrible state with 2 projects due by the end of the week and no Evernote which is the tool I use to produce my work. Any suggestions? 😞
  4. Hello Gazumped, you seem to know alot, I have been a user for > 12 years. I need desperately customer support - before they were sold I could put in a ticket and have a ticket number and know if someone was working on my case. Now I cannot have a dialogue and I have no idea the status of my problem. I am having an emergency in that when restarting the main window opens and it looks ok, but immediately it turns into a blurry window. Then something comes up to restart or quit - I have done both, rebooted, downloaded a new image and it is still the same. I use evernote every hour and now I am frozen out. How do I get customer support help? (I have already submitted a report).. Is there a number? 🙂

  5. grrrrr . I think they are trying to be too clever and syncing while typing. Maybe my notes are not so big or I am taking breaks in the middle of typing to clip things and so I am not noticing. I will pay more attention when I am typing. Aren't these things supposed to be asynchronous ....
  6. This is happening to me too , 10.7.6 and the previous version before it also did it. It happens to me 1 -2 times a day.
  7. omg, I thought this was just my imagination, but this is happening to me too! I was thinking I mistakenly hit a button, but it has happened too many times now and I am sure I have not. Something is triggering it to refocus to the top of the note. Have you put a bug report in for this? I have not as I have had others that are more important.. but now that I see other people are having this same issue I should enter a case.
  8. @Jeff Bass I just typed a note with 2000 lines and it seems ok (well one character per line). Is this really a limitation? I wonder if we can request a zoom call with Ian Small to discuss how we spend hours documenting things and giving supporting evidence of our workflows that prove why we need the functions they have deleted, and still customer support says cuts and pastes canned answers ... basically saying it is a 'feature they are considering'.... when these functions were put into the product for a reason! I am so upset -
  9. Hello @PinkElephant -- The idea is that we are moving forward, not going backwards... I do not want to use the legacy just to write long notes... I don't want to use the legacy to clip into a note, and I certainly don't want to be going backwards by now having to use 'shift-command-4' to clip something and drag it into a note and then wait 30 sec - 1 1/2 minutes until it gives me control back to continue typing in the note. How does this help the product go into the future by us using legacy? The product should be getting better with more features, not less. It should be becoming more robust and incorporate the new ways we are taking notes in the age of zooming all day. I refuse to go back to the legacy and let the product go down hill. I have watched a few interviews with Ian Small that said the product was to be driven by the customer - so I am taking his word on that. About the 1,000 lines .. um.... I have books in my Evernote... and I write my thesis chapters in Evernote. I don't take short notes. A note can be a book or chapters in a book. 🙂
  10. Yes, I am having the exact same problem with 10.7.6 - it is somewhat better than 10.6.9 .. but it is still not working correctly. I think (as I mentioned before) it has to do with how they are trying to sync the note as you are typing it. I can fix this by turning the internet off of the Evernote process !!!! It is usable -- still 1-2 seconds slower than the original version but better than 30 seconds to 1 1/2 minutes!! (I am talking about when I drag images into the note (because they BROKE the evernote helper and refuse to have a dialgue about fixing it to how it was )) I think they are trying to sync while you are typing ... Do you think they goofed in the implementation and are doing this synchronously, instead of doing it async in the background?? Why when I disconnect the Internet does the response time improve. @Jeff Basscan you try typing your notes as a test with the Internet connection off for Evernote and see? This might help them debug the problem. I reported this too.
  11. Hello @Georgemes I initially had the same feelings - Also I have used evernote forever and I am struggling massively with the changes as one of my main workflows is broken and no one seems to at all understand how important this is. Also, the syncing is not right .. It feels like they are trying to seemingly sync every keystroke to the cloud and this can't possibly work in real life... However, I am not going to give up with finding someone to listen and understand how critical these things are. Many of the other issues I had have been almost fixed with the newest version so I have hope that the product will recover and be even better than it was. I don't think they can reproduce in the lab the way evernote works in the field when someone has 30K + notes and 40+gb of data and using the product in realtime. The only way to ensure this is that you have to put in bug reports for the things that are broken: https://evernote.com/contact . Click on the 'access additional support options' and submit a bug report.
  12. You need to put in a support request: https://evernote.com/contact Under 'Get Support' click on: access additional support options. I don't think the support team reads the many threads in this forum.....
  13. Hello Karin - I think you should, because then they will know how serious it is. I am sure it is because they were trying to sync every thing - Evernote was so great before -- and now with the broken Evernote helper with no way to clip and drag into a note in real time plus typing a note taking on average over a minute (for me) to give me control back - I have to see what products there are that will give me this functionality. I have had some recommendations, but I am waiting to see if the issues are fixed. I am super unhappy with the way customer support simply closes my cases with 0 explanation. I am not giving up yet -- so please put in a bug report for this....
  14. My work flow is severely impacted by them breaking this function - what they call the 'Evernote Helper'. I fear that they did not understand the use case of this function. This function alone could sell Evernote in our current days of Zooming all day. My workflow is that I would have zoom meetings/classes for 3-4 hours at a time. I would screen grab constantly and type in my notes -- I would either leave the screen grabs in the Evernote Helper, leaving that window open and drag them into a new note - and sometimes I would just type in that note. It was so fast, efficient and even if in the middle of taking notes something crashed -- never once did it ever lose a note I had been editing. I was usually shocked it was still there! Now they way they have implemented it is pretty much useless.. It should put the clip into the actual Evernote helper -- not ship it unseen back to the app and create and individual note just for it. It should go into the Evernote Helper note that is open. DO you think this is a bug that they just are shipping the clip to the wrong place? It seems not difficult to make this change. We must have this function... What I have been doing instead is (mac): shift-command-4, then see the little note (before it make a file) -- try to grab it in time before it disappears, drag it into the current note, AND THEN wait 10seconds to 1 1/2 minutes to put it into the note. Meanwhile minutes of the lecture/meeting has gone by without being able to type in the note!! [ I fixed this by turning the Internet off just for the evernote app while I am doing this.. and that changed the response time to max 10 seconds and sometimes 1 second.]
  15. Jeff === I wrote above that I figured it out... it is that they are trying to sync seemingly every character to the cloud. This algorithm is not the right one. In no way does this support a real time workflow. I have an app running call 'Trip Mode' because I am often in places with little or slow Internet and I can't afford to have every program talking to the Internet - so I can specifically turn off apps. When I turned off evernote yesterday when I had a 3 hour meeting I could actually take notes and drag screen shots into the note and not get too far behind.
  16. I know what the problem is! I just figured it out. I type long notes during lectures and meetings and drag stuff into the note... omg .. I kept track of how long it took .. 30 seconds, 1 minute, 1 1/2 minutes, sometimes 10 seconds. 100% unusable! I have been so depressed because I simply can not any longer be efficient and take notes and screen shots. They removed the top bar clipper - so that it clips only one thing directly to evernote and you never see it -- I was clipping my zoom window right into my note and and then typing notes and then again and again .. and it worked 100% beautifully -- super fast and even if something crashed it never once lost the note. NOW .. the workflow is broken -- and my work around (using the mac screen capture: shift command 4, then find it, drag it into the note.. and then wait and wait .. meanwhile the lecture is going on and I can't type any notes) barely works. THE FIX IS: turn off the internet for Evernote and it works reasonably well. Not as fast as originally but workable. I have no idea what is taking so long! I put a bug report in to report that this slowness is due to them trying to sync to the cloud after ever character you type it seems!
  17. I have the same issue. My workflow used the 'evernote helper' 4+ hours a day to take meeting, class and conference notes - by clipping screen shots, typing, annotating screen shots, adding link, dragging stuff into the note, etc. Now the screen shot doesn't open in the note, it is sent as its own single note to evernote and you never see it. What use is this if you are taking 50 screen shots over the course of an hour zoom meeting? I want the 50 screen shots in my note and I want to annotate them. Sometimes I would use 2 notes. One was the intermediary - the top bar evernote helper where I would do the screen shots and then I would drag them from there to a new note.. because a normal note does not have the capablity of screen shoting over and over again and annotating. It was BRILLIANT!!! So amazing and no matter how many hours I took notes in that one note it NEVER once lost it . I could rely on this workflow 100%. There is nothing like this... SO why disable this workflow? Especially in the time of ZOOM? This is a seller for evernote - just this one workflow!!!
  18. If they would just add back the 'manual sync' function - people could fix these sync problems themselves. The problem is (I think) is that in a laboratory setting of course the sync is brilliant - but the real world use case is quite diverse and not predicable - there are so many scenarios from: not wanting your device babbling all the time (like if you have nearly no data on your phone and no wifi, or behind a vpn, or in a country that restricts access and you have a small bubble within which to grab and sync your stuff and briefly disable your blockers to force evernote to now sync), or you must sync something from one device to the other and they are sitting in front of you, yet something for an unexplained reason is not working, etc. A 'manual sync' gives the user the power to control their data in their diverse and unique scenarios. Otherwise there will be constant bug reports that the sync does not work. It does not work, because you cannot possible test the scenarios in the real world - let us the users test for you and let you know how to make the product more robust - but please give us control over our data.
  19. I agree. I too am an almost 10 year user and I had integrated Evernote seamlessly into my workflow. Yes there were some issues, like the mobile app being so slow as to be not useable (for me), and I was looking forward to the next generation fixing things, but I never imagined functions being deleted. The beauty of Evernote is that it was flexible & could be used in so many different ways. I am so upset that core 'functions' of Evernote are being deleted and then positioned now as 'feature' requests that they are considering. This is not ok for me. I want to be able to control my data - including sending it where I want and synching it when I want - not waiting 13 1/2 minutes for a note I wrote on my iPad to show up on my laptop - where I intended on adding to it 15 seconds later. This is not workable. Searching for key words in 30,000 notes used to be easy - it would show matches that were tags, matches that were in titles and matches found in notes... now they are all jumbled together and it is simply a mess. Yes, new users may not find any issues with this, but once you get 10s of thousands of notes, this does not scale. I wish no functions to be deleted as that is the 'legacy' .. we have proven it for 10 years .. it is a good thing. We have beaten evernote and pushed it to its limits, the limits need to be refined, not deleted and crippled. I want Evernote to have a next generation and hopefully all our comments will be taken as constructive and addressed swiftly -- because we are the foundation.
  20. I configured this initially in 2012 ... and have never looked at it again. Maybe it always just used the evernote account email address -- I thought I remembered having to confirm it would use this address, but I could be wrong. BUT .. it still works on my iPhone app that I have not updated for a year or so.
  21. 100%. From my iPhone it still works. I send an email and it is from what I configured. Why are you calling it 'legacy?' The functions that have been deleted are not 'old fashioned' .. they are part of what made Evernote so amazing. These functions are 100% relevant. I saw a comment about evernote wanting to be like dropbox -- but dropbox is only one thing. It is to store files and to share files with people. It is not a workflow product, it is not a realtime tool for workflow. I think it is great to add dropbox like features, but not at the expense of deleting what makes evernote so powerful. If you want me to email you a note from my iPhone I can... here is a screenshot from sending a note from evernote on my phone: I sent it to: robinlittlefield@gmail.com... that is all I entered.. the note was sent to me and the from reply to field is: robinlittlefield@yahoo.com that I have configured. No mention of evernote in the note. ALSO: one more thing I just noticed. I added new notes with the text that I sent you about the function issues. I tried to change the folder. Now that button says (go to that folder) ?? This is super odd, this is not where one would click to change folders!!!! Now the change the folder you click to the right of it... but instead of it dropping down the list of your folders, it opens a new window and then you have to select your folder. This is adding an entire new step -- where before it was super fast now it is clumsy and slow and adds unnecessary steps. The 'legacy' was streamlined .... 🙂 Thank you! Robin
