  1. +1 I can't imagine using this app for anything serious without a zoom feature. I can see using it for basic reminder notes, but nothing for business. It's just a toy at this point.
  2. I'm actually having the same issue. It seems like search is working correctly, but none of my search terms are being highlighted in my notes either. Evernote version 2.2.0 RC 152864 Mac OS 10.6.7
  3. I feel pretty silly for not being able to locate the preference setting - can someone point me to it? Thanks, Brian
  4. Hallelujah! Evernote 2.0a is finally responsive on my 3ghz Core 2 Duo/8gb ram MacBook Pro. In the moderate amount of testing I've done, it rarely causes the beach ball. Nice work! I'm a hopeful user. Brian
  5. It's not a category issue - I want to share notes among a group of people. Until sharing matures in the clients, I would not be able to use my own account to fulfill these needs. Sadly, using the web browser adds more steps if going through the Mac. One step forward, two steps back. Thanks anyway. Brian
  6. I was going to explore the use of a second account for my workplace and was shocked to find I can't switch to a second account on the Mac. Is this a limitation of the Mac OS, or something that just hasn't been built into EN yet? Thanks, Brian
  7. I'm dealing with the same problem. My MBP runs fine other than when using EN. I've essentially quit using it, which is a shame. I am putting my trust in the developers, so I continue to add content. I do know I can get to my content it if I have time to spare. Even the web version is slow, but it's more usable than the Mac client at this point. Searching on the iPad version is troublesome at best. There are times the app will crash, will stall, or will error out. But I digress - that's for another forum. I have 4500+ notes. Brian
  8. As per my previous posts, File-> Export does not work. Thankfully, using the web version DID work. Whew! This is a long shot, but do you have any ideas as to why my local db might have been corrupted? What are some possible scenarios that would cause random corruption? Should I move my local db and redownload my 5400+ notes to ensure a good local db?
  9. Hmm.. that isn't working either. When I try, I get a dialog box with the message: Evernote was unable to load the data for a resource on the note titled 'xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx'. The problem is - I *really* need this file - I've got a deadline coming up and need this file. I'm assuming I can dig through my files on my Mac and find it - but I don't really know where to start. I wasn't expecting to put a file in and not be able to get it back out. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated! Brian
  10. When I try to drag it, nothing happens. The icon will turn dark as if I could drag it away, but once I move the cursor, the cursor does not turn to the green circle with the + symbol. A clip of the activity log after trying to click and drag follows: 2010-08-08 18:41:01 0x50d810 [ENAppController] ERROR: EXCEPTION: *** -[NSCFArray insertObject:atIndex:]: attempt to insert nil I can submit this as a support ticket if you think I should. Thanks, Brian
  11. This isn't working consistently for me - at least when it comes to many attachments on my 10.5.8 Mac running EN 1.10.0 (91023). From what I have recently discovered after a VERY frustrating Evernote session last evening, I cannot drag OR save many (but not all) attachments to my Finder. At this point, I don't know how else to get the attachments back out. For what it's worth, it appears it's mostly attachments I have emailed into my account that are giving me trouble, but I have found a few that I added "manually" that aren't working either. Also, I AM able to view the content of any of the .doc or .xls files with the quick look feature. Help! Brian
  12. This is great! Thanks for adding this to your site. What if simple notices of planned outages were added to a status bar in the desktop (and maybe even mobile) clients? Again, thanks for making all of this more visible! Brian
  13. Try right-clicking the image, then choose open with->preview. Once it opens in preview you should be able to rotate the image. Exit preview and save your changes, and it should update in EN. HTH Brian
  14. Thanks for your reply. I misspoke in the original post. Since I wrote that, I realized I wasn't looking at all of my notes and saw that I missed two additional from a different notebook. Those two extra notes had Word documents as attachments. As a little experiment, I deleted the Word doc attachments from the notes (but did not delete the note) and EN would sync with no errors. For what it's worth, both notes had no text in the body - only the attachments. I don't understand what was happening, as I have all kinds of Word docs in various notes. If you would like, I could re-attempt it and if it fails, open a ticket and send you a portion of the activity log. Thanks again though for your response. Brian
  15. I'm getting a sync error with EN... A check of the console log shows this: 7/8/10 5:45:53 PM Evernote[9400] NSExceptionHandler has recorded the following exception: EDAMUserException -- unknown Stack trace: 0x43a19a 0x93741e3b 0x56352 0x1710c9 0x16fce9 0x16797e 0x17a5ea 0x9796adfd 0x9796a9a4 0x931bf155 0x931bf012 Any thoughts on what this might be, and more importantly, how I can get it syncing again? A few posts I've read have said to move my database and let EN redownload everything. With 5300 notes, I just don't see that as an option. I have eight notes that are not syncing - all 500k or less - they're just webpage clippings. Many thanks for your time, Brian
  16. Nice idea. Can we get a comment on why this happens?
  17. To the employees of Evernote: to what percent satisfied are you with being able to get information out of your product? Do you honestly see shortcomings in being able to organize and locate information, or are you happy with it and see no need to improve bringing information to the top? I've read this many times: you guys have done a great job of making it incredibly easy to put information in. I don't hear that nearly as often when it comes to finding information. I echo the sentiment on both accounts. Perhaps a webinar (though that could get ugly), or even a screencast of how you guys sift through thousands of notes to find the one note you're looking for, or even notes of similar topics, would be helpful to us. I'm a regular tag user, but I can tell I'm not using them correctly as my tag list is starting to get a bit lengthy. Please know - I would be LOST without this product. It holds so much information for me... but that's what is starting to make me nervous. I'm just concerned I may not be able to find pieces of information in the future due to a mistake/omission I make in tagging a note. I'm willing to deal with what I see as shortcomings in the programming as compared with MY workflow because I at least know it's in there somewhere... if I just spend enough time looking for it. Please educate us in a visual way (demonstrate) as to why tags are the end-all be-all and why everything else is simply inferior. Thank you for your time. Brian
  18. Yeah, this is a pretty annoying 'feature'. I never have understood what the logic was behind hiding the note only to reveal the search terms. The search term is worthless to me out of context. The reason I'm searching for the term is not just for the term's sake - I need the entire note. I've seen it be asked here before - highlight the term in yellow... leave the rest of the note alone. Maybe someday.
  19. I used to cut and paste the content from emails. Finally, I decided to start forwarding the mail. It's a thing of beauty, I have to say. Any attachments are added to the note and readily available. I'm using the Mac for this, but I assume this would be the same in Windows.
  20. Okay, the last few posts are making me feel a little better - at least in terms that I'm not doing something wrong. A PDF I put up yesterday as well as some I put up early this morning are not searchable. I'm using an older scanner (HP 1210 all-in-one) and was worried it wasn't going to work with Evernote. Maybe it will be after all. Brian
  21. I attended a K12 Education/IT conference in Indiana last Thursday and Friday where they were giving away iPod Touches to anyone that signed up for both days. I don't know the exact number of attendees for both days, but they had to give away at least 500 or so iPods. Anyway - each iPod came preloaded with several pages of apps - and included in that list was Evernote. I was excited to see it getting some big exposure. Even the keynote speaker from Apple mentioned the app for the Touch and desktop and how admins, teachers, and students could benefit from it. (This was while I was actually taking notes in Evernote on my Mac.) Just thought I'd pass that along. Brian
  22. I found myself either shaking my head yes or vocally saying yes each time you made a new suggestion. I thought about responding inline to your post, but what's the point? I agree with everything you suggested as an enhancement to EN. I find myself totally frustrated with the left sidebar. I keep thinking I must not have my database setup efficiently because I'm constantly scrolling through the bar to get to the tags/attributes/notebooks that I need. Your post made me realize I shouldn't think that way - maybe it's the sidebar that's setup inefficiently. I'm the user - I should be able to configure this in a way that works for me. We've been asking for a way to "pin" notes for a long time... I can't believe the developers wouldn't want and/or use that feature as well. They use it in these forums to pin important topics - what is the difference then in needing to pin an important note? I know, I know - we can tag it "important" and have access to it that way - but then I have to scroll thru that sidebar to find the "important" tag. I couldn't agree more with you on your issues with dimming text in a note to show the found search term. In order for me to read the note, I then have to click inside the note to remove the mask. Why? Like you said, why not hi-light the search terms rather than dim everything else. Not good for workflow. (It's sorta like Vista - I click on an application to open it and I get the box that asks if I'm sure I want to start the app. Here, I search for the term and then I'm "asked" if I'm sure I want to read the note.) I have to admit - I was a very reluctant migrant from version 2 to version 3. Now that I'm here and have used it, I use it more than ever, thanks mostly to the fact that I can access it from so many clients. There's good and bad to that though. Because I'm using it more, I'm getting more frustrated with EN. The points made in the OP really speak to my frustrations. I'm with you - options are good. EN does an incredible job at giving us options for what we can put in our db. They do a great job at giving us options for how we can pull it out. Please give us good options for how we can organize all those options.
  23. Instead of typing this into Terminal: ln -s /ENOTE/Evernote /Users/keith/Library/Application\ Support/Evernote try this: ln -s /Volumes/ENOTE/Evernote /Users/keith/Library/Application\ Support/Evernote It took me quite a bit of searching, but with adding "/Volumes" to the beginning of the path, it finally worked for me. Quoted from lifehacker website: Another easy way to do this with Terminal is type the ln -s part, then from Finder drag the folder/file that you want into the Terminal window then drag the Dropbox folder and hit return. /quote HTH Brian
  24. You're right - the passworded screensaver works well, assuming one has the rights to access the screensaver. In my workplace, this is locked out. @SaraS - I think you're right about the EN2 db. Now that you mention it, I do seem to recall that same discussion about the EN2 database being directly accessible as well. This leads me to a question: from the company's programming standpoint, does a database HAVE to be encrypted to password protect it? I still maintain, and I think many would agree, if I want it encrypted I can either encrypt individual notes OR stick it in Ft. Knox (TrueCrypt). A basic level of protection within the program seems like an obvious feature. Don't get me wrong - I LOVE EN - I have since the day I installed version 2. It just seems like this is something that any program of this nature would offer. Brian
  25. Good luck getting anywhere with this, but I am glad to see others asking for it. I made a similar post a couple of days ago, and I believe others have suggested this as well. Their best suggestions: put the database in a vault like TrueCrypt (I have to believe overkill in many cases) or use a passworded screensaver. EN 2.2 did have a password requirement. I haven't seen them talk about why it was removed in EN3. Brian
