  1. This issue came up for me today. 'Use case': I want to copy a list of notes into another document (Google doc) so that the URL and created date is visible as well as the note title. Should be easy since I believe Evernote data is be stored in a structured and therefore accessible way, but it seems to have no mechanism for useful extractions. My manual solution uses Notion: Import a selected notebook folder from Evernote to Notion. 1. Use IMPORT (at the bottom of the sidepanel) Note: Notion only imports notebook folders from Evernote. If you are creating a list of Evernotes from different notebooks or a search list you will need to create a separate temporary notebook folder, copy your search list there and then import that new folder using Notion 2. Select Evernote as the application source Select the notebook you want to copy and paste 3. Click 'Import' 4. Now use Notion's EXPORT action available from the 3dots menu (@ screen top right) 5. Ensure 'Markdown & CSV' is selected 6. Click 'Export'. CSV file is saved to default location. 7. Double click the file to open in a spreadsheet and take it from there! I think that's it - any bugs/changes let me know! Update 1: I haven't tried any of this on my tablet or phone yet ... Update 2: It can be messy! Notion does not like Evernote's formats so graphics and any posts configured as HTML content mostly do not import. Only remedy is to edit posts to remove rogue content. Can be tedious but it's not the sort of thing I need to do very often so may be worth it for the odd case. Update 3: I tried Notion some years ago when it first appeared. Liked it but already invested in Evernote and couldn't see major reason to change. However, I now see that Notion has some useful qualities that I may have more use for so I'll use it for a while to see how it goes. Update 4: Tried out desktop web clipper - works OK - and the phone/tablet app works OK too. NOTE to Evernote: maybe the development road mapper should think about this - if I could have simply copied a list of note titles into another document with clearly demarked meta data (e.g. created date, URL, title etc) then I would not be considering a move to Notion! The weakest aspect of Evernote is how it organises its data and the tools it provides to inerrogate it (beyond search and tag I see nothing else?) Update 5: Just a note to say that then the exported CSV is opened in Excel the 'created date' is rather awkward, i.e. nothing like a date! It needs manual/macro editing ... more nuisance but relatively quick to fix (unless you can live with it ...)
  2. Thanks gazumped. The Attach link was helpful thogh added to the puzzle. I never thought to add a GD file link to a note and try it that way. Bizarrely, the link works fine! i.e. paste a GD file link into a note, click the link, the file opens. But the Insert action still does not not display google drive contents as expected ... (which would be useful) I have submitted a support ticket, #3504748. Interestingly, as i said to Ray, the calendar didn't work either but I just tried adding the widget to the home page and now it works fine! Doesn't seem to pick up the Google to do list but that really isn't important to me ... Thanks for suggestions.
  3. Thanks Ray A mystery! Have tried everything I can think of: disabled virus checker, firewall, Google sync, turned off all chrome extensions No ad blocker installed (don't use Edge anyway). Also, I just connected Google Calendar and that does not work either! Just a blank calendar shows with no entries. ... the more I can't do this the more I want to!! 😳 Seriously, if you have any obvious suggestions please let me know, but this issue is probably not that important, just a handy feature (since I do nearly all my writing in Google Docs it could be useful to link that with some of the sources I am using in Evernote ...)
  4. Hello Ray Thanks for the advice. I have tried turning off both Windows Defender and the Firewall but that made no difference ... same effect. Windows opens for a short while, then closes. I am not sure else to try. I am runing Drive Sync as well. Tried pausing that, but again no change. I am pretty sure I have no other tools/apps on board hat might affect this action. ??? 🤔
  5. Hi there Thanks for replies. I am using desktop evernote version 10.34.4 on W10. Yes I have a Drive account Google Drive is a connected service listed in Account > Connected services - but I am not sure if there is something else I need to do. Tried disconnecting and then connectng again - sucessfully it would seem, but the insert window still closes after a few seconds wihtout showing any Drive files. Thanks
  6. Hi all I tried the Google Drive insert in a a note the other day (desktop version using teh + button). Nothing happens! A window opens and then closes! I looked ths up in Help but all it says it on first use user will be asked to authenticate. This did not, and does not, happen. S, does not seem to work. Any advice? Thanks for readin
  7. Hi all - just an update on the printing issue. Following advice from forum members here I finally got in touch with Evernote support a few weeks ago. Thanks! EN is working on it. One issue that some of use have noticed is that when printing a note directly, lines at page breaks are chopped vertically (top half of text before page break, bottom half after). This is a known issue and EN are already working on a fix. The PDF issue where chunks of text are dropped (particularly at page breaks it would seem) is more mysterious but EN seems to agree that there is an issue (at least for me) although they cannot reproduce it on their set up (and some others here have said the same thing). They have my log files and sample printouts. Will let you know any of any updates. 🤔
  8. Ok have pasted text into support ticket and await result! Note: I do not use the mobile app version - and I have no need for it as all my work using this tool is desktop based. Somewhere I think I read that the mobile app has a 'send activity log to self' action which, if true, would be handy if replicated in the desktop app. Anyway, I'll wait for a reply from EN before I look in here again. In the meantime will carry on with my several workarounds! Thanks for all tips and advice so far from members 😎
  9. Thansk again @PinkElephant. I think the word for this design is 'byzantine'! I'll paste my feedback into a support ticket and see what happens.
  10. @PinkElephant ... OK I didn't get that far but it seems a bit crazy to me. The activity log system is not well explained (three types are offered - difference between them?) and it's not clear where the logs are stored. It's a bit too low level for me and I haven't got time to fiddle around with that stuff ... but I guess I'll have to try ... *sigh*. Can you give a hint as to the file path for the logs? Many thanks
  11. I have just sent the below via the feedback link in the desktop app. I don't really expect any useful reply having done this several times over the past year or so. When the feedback page is completed all you get is this bland response: "We thank you for your time spent taking this survey.Your response has been recorded." Which really does not inspire any confidence that it will even be read, let alone analysed or responded to. Text of feedback sent earlier today follows: As many users report in the forum thread 'Entire note is not getting exported to pdf' there are some real and repeatable problems with printing output either from PDF, directly from notes, or from exported HTML pages. Content is dropped from exported PDF more often than not, usually involving a lost page. Direct printing of a note results in the last line of a page split vertically across the page break.* Exported HTML pages also drop content, sometimes as much as a whole page. Several users report this problem but some feedback from EN addressed to the forum would be helpful. One user reports that EN has looked at it the issue but as far they know there is no problem having tested it on the EN systems. But that is contradicted by user experience. I, and others, can assure EN that printing output from EN is difficult and very unreliable. Please: (i) investigate this issue thoroughly, perhaps by replicating a range of typical user setups; and (ii) please provide feedback on the topic via the forums as well as personally to users like myself who have reported the issue through app feedback or the online 'get support' pages (which, by the way, do not seem to be designed adequately so as to allow users to report issues in detail. Thanks. Not holding my breath for a helpful response 😒
  12. Thanks @snew4 and @PinkElephant - I've tried both the links you suggest but all I get is a form made up of drop down fields. Options provided do not cover the issue! What's needed is a full text field in order to explain the issue and perhaps tag it usefully. Makes no sense! EN not great at support?
  13. Thanks @snew4 I'll try that route. That's a fairly common issue. Of course it works on developers systems but that's really only a minimum condition .... Surely one important reason for forums like this is to get feedback from the field. If users say there's an issue it needs proper investigation ... thanks again.
  14. This detail is true for all printed output - as you say an option to hide the note title would be good. I recall that the earlier version of EN (before the Great Change) only had a note title and did not repeat it as part of the note text ...
  15. Seems quite a few users experience this issue. I'm still not clear how to 'raise a support ticket' as some replies have suggested. Does anyone know how to do this?
  16. Windows 10 Evernote 10.23 Problems with "Export as PDF". Me too! I have problems both with "export as pdf" and simple printing of a note. In both cases content is either not printed or mashed. In PDF the errors vary - sometimes it is a chopped line at a page break, losing the end of a paragraph and jumping to the start of the next; sometimes it can be several lines; sometimes an entire page is missing. Maybe it is page breaks that cause the problem? Whatever, the glitches seem to vary. Ditto when simply printing a note. The formatting is so bad that where the is a page break lines are chopped in half vertically. Adjusting printer settings makes no difference (why does Evernote ignore printer settings?). I have also experienced dropped content when printing a note directly. It's a mess! This has been the case ever since I took the plunge and upgraded from the old version to the new. It's tedious and just adds more needless work to the management of content. I am just a personal user but very reluctant to upgrade if these sorts of problems persist. It's been many months with no change. I have found that exporting a note as an html page is more reliable and thus more amenable to printer control. However, as confidence in the reliability of Evernote output is currently rather low (to understate it!) one is forced to compare every html output with the original just to make sure it's right. Moreover, one is forced to save the damn thing before being able to edit and/or print. As I say, just adds more work ... Some replies in this topic have mentioned raising a support ticket to report the issue - but where to do that is far from clear. Anyone who knows please advise me. Thanks UPDATE: just to check , a few minutes ago I exported a note as HTML and printed it via Edge. Complete note printed. Word count 2974. I then printed the same note directly. Goodness! The printout lost half the last paragraph! Word count: 2796 Messy! What's going here?
  17. Well, generally the desktop app seems to have been running a bit more smoothly since making the adjustments suggested. Still the occasional 'not responding' moments but they definitely don't last for as long as they did, and I haven't had any total seizures of late. 😎
  18. Thanks guys - some useful tips. @PinkElephant - OK found those settings (CTRL/ALT in windows) - I'll give rebuild a shot tomorrow - see what happens. Your point about speedtest sounds right. @CalS - yes I've already got that sync option off (not by design; I think it might be the default) and I've changed the delay setting as you suggest - see what happens. Take your point about reducing background processing loads. None of these issues are a plague, just irritating. This AM it was real pain but as I said, turns out it was not a failing of EN. If I notice any improvement from the settings you suggest I'll let you know ... if you don't hear from me, well, things stay the same, but there's clearly some adjustments I can fiddle with. 🙂
  19. Thanks for responding guys. All tips gratefully received and I have already tried some of them ... but mea culpa I should have answered my own post earlier because when I was out during the day I learned that in my part of the UK there has been a network issue affecting the whole region (Wales and the South). In the end the issue was principally to do with a segment of the national network...strange that my speedtest didn't show up any slowdown though) ... ... BUT one reason for writing in the first place, out of frustration, is that I do find EN a bit tardy when it syncs and as I said, I have got used to the 'not responding' message which happens quite often but usually clears after a minute or so. This morning though I couldn't do a thing and just gave up and ran some errands instead. @pink elephant yes I have various 'whatevers' 🙂 but they don't normally seem to interfere with other apps (and although the recent release of Chrome has proved flaky I picked up some flag changes that fixed that). @CalS - yes I have SSDs - they are great and a great speed boost (plus they are silent), but again, EN sync is not obviously affected by that part of my computer One detail: I do find that I get more 'not responding' or simple hangs when I am using the desktop app's search. It also hangs quite a bit if I am editing my tag list. I can only think the app is handshaking a lot and it often isn't very quick. Anyway, once again, replies appreciated
  20. PS Now the forum is "not responding"!!!
  21. Evernote (Windows desktop) is often pretty bad when syncing - it frequently locks up with a 'not responding' state. Hasn't been too bad the last few days but this morning I simply cannot work with it! Every time I search for a note it locks up. Done all the usual stuff (cleaning out caches, restart, checking my broadband connection - no issues) so I guess it's a server issue at EN end. Any issues we should know about?
  22. Hi Thanks for the update. On this particular example search works much better, See image: The only interesting detail is that I must have fifty tags like 'surveillance:' followed another keyword or phrase. (My convention is colon always has a space after it ...) Of course, it would be horrendous for search to pull all of them up and anyway I should attempt to qualify the search term 'surveillance: with a following space and letter etc. See next image for example: The only (minor) puzzle is that what is retrieved by search seems somewhat arbitrary. But that is not unreasonable otherwise the list would be way too long and therefore cumbsersome. It is certainly an improvement and although arbitrary it is a much more helpful retrieval as it greatly aids refinement; I can simply add/edit the search term to narrow things down/ Thanks Note: I am also using the feedback form on the beta editor drop down button to send comments. I am signed in to the online editor with the same email as for this forum so shouldn't be hard to track .. but note my comments are sometimes not correct! (No surprise there ..) Overall the search tool is working well.
  23. New search in online Beta Issue! It works well BUT I have made esxtneisve use of a colon separator as part of my tagging (it allows a crude sort of hierarchy). e.g. surveillance: classrooms surveillance: facial recognition algorithms: bias etc. It was never obvious that I should not do this and Evernote never blocked the use of the colon in tags. So I have *lots* of tags structured like this. But the new Search does not allow me to search for a tag+colon, e.g. if I search for 'surveillance:' EN does not filter tags constructed like that ... it just doesn't work properly. Compared with the search term without a colon (but note also that under 'Add filter' it does not show all the tags that include the colon, it only shows one, but I have a dozen!). The colon is obviously problematic for EN but my tag list is too big to change them all now! Easier for EN to allow the colon (and other) additional characters as part of tags , unless there is a *very* good reason for not allowing them ... it's only a string! (See my remarks in other posts querying that a hash symbol cannot be used as part of a string )
