Which is better, web or desktop version?
PinkElephant replied to Rad_Boy's topic in Evernote General Discussions
Personally I don’t use Chrome (as I avoid Google products and services in general). Can only contribute that EN Web works fine on Safari, Firefox and Edge for me. -
Improve the writing notes function
PinkElephant replied to riverflow's topic in Evernote General Discussions
EN doesn’t claim handwriting support, and in fact it doesn’t really work well with handwriting. Anybody who wants to go into handwriting should look for a dedicated handwriting app. When you observe what they do, it is easy to understand why EN will never be able to support it. The basic data model of EN is HTML, and this is entirely text oriented. -
Some general search advise, this from the iOS client: Search the note, open it. Usually you get a list of notes, and the search can’t decide which one to use for a deep dive. So you decide. Then use the in-note search to locate the location in the note. The in-note search field will already be filled with your prior search term, so it’s just click it and hit Enter. You have arrows to jump from one place to the next - they are highlighted. Or open the attachment and use the in-attachment search to locate it there. You get a thumbnail view with all hits in the document, sorted by pages, and can usually select the right spot. This is fine with large attachments. Where it becomes tedious is when there are several files attached to a single note. In such a case you need to open them one by one, if you don’t know which one is the one you are looking for. Happens for me maybe in 1 out of 50 searches.

Cmd-W is a general MacOS shortcut. The signs you describe speak for a broken local database. To fix it, get the app AppCleaner. Log out of EN, quit the app. Now use AppCleaner to remove all traces of EN from your Mac. Restart the Mac, download the installer from the EN website. Install, open, log in. Leave it running for a while in the background while it downloads your notes from the server.

leaving Evernote after 14 years
PinkElephant replied to BlueCat's topic in Evernote General Discussions
Choose whatever you want. Do you blame EN to forget to raise the prices or stop your subscription, grandfathered since long ? OK, they are just correcting this. These subscriptions are not for light use any more. But this you found out yourself. Good luck with your alternative. -
Evernote legacy ending on 2024-03-23
PinkElephant replied to Alxa's topic in Evernote General Discussions
EN is a cloud service. They don’t need to make their software „available“ for anybody, just because there are some legacy forever diehards. They offer a service based on a subscription, it updated to a new version more than 3 years ago. Now they took the business decision to stop offering the service based on the old, deprecated software (for reasons explained in their blog). That‘s it, move ahead or leave. -
This really is a no brainer: The links in HTML export from the HTML file to the attachments in the folder are broken, since v10 launched. I send 2 or 3 tickets about it myself, I have mentioned it several times here in the forum, and that’s it by now. Still „kaputt“. They can be corrected manually, which shows it’s just a stupid bug that is creating a nearly correct link, minus 1 essential character.

What is not clear about the current shortcuts ? alt&ctrl&S is the screen capture shortcut - but not in legacy, it is in the new version.

Nobody is forced to use v10. If these legacy users were so clever to stick with an abandoned software for so long, they are clever enough to find their next app and move their content there. 4 weeks, guys. No time to waste time here in the forum. You procrastinated for more than 3 years now - it’s action time, wake up !- 848 replies

@Home and Work user open your main account in the app. Open any other account in the browser. You can have 2, 3, 4, … , many accounts open at the same time. There is a quick account switcher in the app as well. -
On the Mac you need to use AppCleaner to really uninstall EN - no matter which client. And if it was just recently installed, and the client was not kept running in the background, I think it will still be downloading content. Until the local database is fully created, the app will not be as fast as it will be when done. The download took several days for me, on a fast internet connection.

Don’t think so. But access local only sucks. Even legacy was build to stay in sync with a server - and you feel it. -
Your notes are stored on the cloud server. To access them, you need to log into your account. If you are logged into an account: How do you know it’s yours, when your notes are not there ? You can check in your account settings when your account (the one you say you can access) was created.

Notes available one day, gone the next. HELP!
PinkElephant replied to Myross's question in General Technical Issues
If you went to a Teams subscription, your account will basically be split into two: One teams, one personal. Teams is for use with multiple persons (actually it doesn’t make sense below 3 users). I have never set one up myself, but your notes should be in your Personal account. As with most account issues, you probably need support to sort it out. -

Actualy you can have one account open in the app, and several others in the web client, using several browser tabs (not supported in all browsers). You can have the same account open in the app plus the web browser tabs. And you can have the same note open in the app and several web browser tabs, and you can use them all at the same time to edit the same note, with the edits from one tab appearing in all the others while you type. Try this in legacy, and the client would simply freak, flooding you with duplicates and conflict notes. -
The only people who speak for the company are carrying a STAFF designator in their forum badge. About the rest: You decided what app and service to use. If you don't like the course it is taking, grab your stuff and go where you like it better.

You obviously misunderstood the blog post. This is about command / shortcuts. You find the regular shortcuts here: https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/articles/209004807-Keyboard-shortcuts-in-Evernote-for-Windows

Anybody on a not supported OS can still log in on the web client. No idea what happens when the legacy client was logged in before 23rd March, and then is opened with the PC in offline. Academical question, I suppose.
