This is pretty standard on all websites though, I've noticed. They always say Google Authenticator and I had to just try it to learn any 2FA will work.

Holy cow. $85 Evernote socks? They don't even have elephants on them. This was a Phil thing? What was he thinking?? As for alternatives, I have posted in these forums my experience with using Joplin. It's got a very nice, simple web clipper. Markdown is a nice format to use - I particularly like the intelligent "[toc]" tag to create a quick table of contents. Pros: It feels simpler than Evernote, but you can add inline images, inline PDFs, and inline audio files. So I'm not sure it's actually less featured. And if your server goes down, you still have access to the last-saved local notes. Potential cons: There is no web portal. You also need to be able to reliably self-host Joplin. Sync is very reliable, but easy to ***** up, if that makes sense. The desktop application is Electron, and while it's fast and responsive, sometimes it takes forever to start up, at least for me. Edit: I didn't asterisk out that word up there and it wasn't foul language. Wow.

I like how Joplin auto-populates the note title with the first few words of your note. I have multiple Untitled Notes because I keep forgetting to add a title.

I'm giving v10 a whirl again, but on Evernote 10.11 and now 10.12 (1115297) if I try to clip an item, or just open the app at all, I get the "web clipper" animation and an attempt at clipping the last item I already clipped. I can cancel it. However I recall this occurring when v10 rolled out. Any suggestions to fix this or a way to report it to the team? Have they discussed fixing this? I also dislike how the web clipper now switches you out of your other app (the browser or whatever you are clipping from) and into the Evernote app. So you have to switch back. I still prefer the way the old Evernote Android web clipper would simply show a toast pop up that you were clipping an item, and then return focus to whatever app you were using. On the plus side the web clipper seems a lot faster and more reliable than when v10 rolled out.

I have used Zoho Notes and likewise noticed nobody really talks about it. It's a good service. However it reminded me more of Google Keep. At the time anyway, its editor and abilities were kind of simple, but definitely useful. The Zoho team seems to like their notes product; I think I was talking with one of the devs on Reddit. It's a side project of their main, monetized Zoho business products.

Just to preface this I don't hate Evernote v10 (although the lag is killing me). I probably won't switch. I'm just trying Joplin just as a general project I've been doing lately of self-hosting services on my own server - Nextcloud, etc. It seems to be the most Evernote-like experience. However, here's what I've noticed so far. The desktop app is Electron, so it actually feels very much like v10. If you hate v10, fair warning. However without the lag, it runs as well as a native application. This actually gives me faith that Evernote will fix their lag. There is no mobile web clipper. At all. Maybe someday? Browser web clipper extension works surprisingly well. Their simplified clip option seems to handle most webpages nicely. Note history is 90 days but you can set to however long you want. Very nice. Sync works smoothly - but of course, you have to have your own storage backend set up properly. Nextcloud was easy to set up and syncs well. People seem to have issues using other storage backends like OneDrive, ymmv. Dropbox seems to work okay. They're developing a new Joplin server software you can run yourself on your own computer. Note files/attachments greater than 100 mb may crash the mobile apps upon syncing. The devs have created a few workarounds for modern mobile devices but you won't know until you try on yours. The desktop app displays inline PDFs, that's new as of this week. Development seems very active. The mobile app does not display PDFs, it just shows an attachment. No searching within PDFs. No OCR search within images. Text editing is Markdown. You may miss Evernote's color and formatting options. Notes can have tables. Inline images display well. Notes can be encrypted in transit and at rest. Individual notes are not encryptable, I think it's either all or none. I've read chatter that the sqlite database is not encrypted but I'm not sure if this matters or is a likely attack vector. ENEX imports to Joplin work pretty well. You can use a Markdown or an HTML conversion. My text notes with formatting look great in Joplin so far? Internal links are broken by the import process. Or rather, clicking on an Evernote internal note link within Joplin will attempt to open Evernote (either the website or the legacy app). You'd have to remember that nobody is serving up, or backing up, your notes other than you. That's true for several of these alternative services, like Standard Notes etc. What I mean is that my Joplin notes are currently sitting on a computer in my basement, which is not as stable as Evernote's accounts on Google servers. If another piece of software breaks your home server, that may delay access to your notes. If you use Dropbox and Dropbox changes their API, that may break the connection to your notes. And of course you need good backup practices in case an update corrupts your database or your kid deletes all your notes.

Just wanted to quote this for emphasis. I'm a frequent OneNote user for various things but the disparity is worse than EN's was. Add in the fact that many people are forced into dual OneNote accounts (business plus personal account) and then also Microsoft's abhorrence of VPNs and some networks, and my OneNote sync breaks catastrophically (with note or even whole notebook loss) roughly once a year. I use it for disposable quick notes. I can't trust it to be a digital filing cabinet like Evernote.

When I open the Evernote app on Android, it will tell me there's 3-4 clips which are "loading." When they finally load they are entered as notes with the current date and time (of opening the app). However they might be links I clipped hours or even a day before. Is this a bug? Is there a way to report this?

I'd like to just be able to open an app, snap a photo (or attach multiple photos) of a landscape, place to visit, restaurant, campsite, whatever - and see those items as pins on a map. Or at least arrange them by distance. For a while I've been using ScoutLog for this purpose. I may try the Journey app as well. Is there a way I could just do this with Evernote, though?
