With my workflow, Evernote Tasks can't compete with it... yet. What Evernote has right now for Tasks is just an MVP -- it works great for some people, not worth switching for others.

I think it's important to point out that this is how companies are developing new products today. Gone are the days where companies spend years developing a full-featured product before releasing it. With the ability to quickly release features to users (instead of having to print and ship CDs), companies now create MVPs and iterate on them based on customer feedback. This greatly reduces the risk that a company spends time and money developing the wrong thing. It's important to gauge user sentiment and market acceptance of what you're trying to create.

This is 100% the direction we want to take Tasks. We actively listened to the feedback from the Beta and Early Access users. Key features quickly rose to the top and we are actively investigating how to build them out and improve Tasks. We have no intention of just leaving the Task feature as-is with no further development.

Please continue to provide us feedback and we hope to sway the nay-sayers who aren't happy with the first version. It's an evolving product that I think will get a lot better.

I was expecting to be switched to the new Professional level

None of the existing accounts would be auto-switched to Professional since it's a newer, higher-priced tier.

btw My information on the left says Subscription: PREMIUM

Yeah, we're already looking into getting this swapped properly.

I upgraded from Premium/Personal to Professional, upgrade went through fine pro-rated.  Web interface reflected right away.  macOS didn't show the new options and update Tasks status from  'Early Access'.  Closing and relaunching didn't resolve but Logging out and back in has done the trick there.

Yes, the desktop apps will cache the Early Access info for a period of time (to reduce network calls) and then will refresh it. Logout/Login will force the clearing of that cache.

I have the exact same problem. Was premium, now a personal.. and no right to support or live chat.

Thanks, we're actively looking into this now. In the meantime, please try logging out and back in and let me know if that solves the issue.

overall my plan seems unchanged. Professional looks really cool too - especially being able to allocate tasks to others, though how that works without contact lists is unclear? We should get early access to that.

You can assign to any email address. The user will receive an email notification about the task being shared. If they're already an Evernote subscriber, they can log in and it'll automatically show up in their Tasks view under the "Assigned" tab. Non users will be able to view the Task in a special web view (similar to when you share a note publicly) that doesn't even require signing up. They can mark the task completed within that view. If they sign up for an account, they'll be able to then see it in their Tasks view.

  6. @aweinstein100Can you please provide some more details so we can help figure out what is going on?

    1. Is the screenshot above from your mobile device or desktop?
    2. After the tasks disappeared in the mobile device, do they still appear in the desktop or did those become Untitled as well?
    3. Did you edit the note in any way in the mobile desktop, or did they show up as Untitled as soon as you opened the note?
    4. What versions of the desktop and mobile versions are you using?

Thanks, another solution would be to have cut and paste work between notes (cutting and pasting the full task)

Cut and paste of tasks works, though I'll admit that the highlighting of tasks is a bit weird and can be improved. I think we'll work to make that better.

To cut and paste, make sure that you see the blue box around the task(s) as you highlight them. You can copy or cut and then paste into a different note. All the metadata should get cut/copied as well. Works in both desktop and mobile, though admittedly harder to select tasks in mobile.

If there's a light mode available, which does not work for the side bar pane, what kind of 'design' is that?

It's a design aesthetic and not unique to Evernote. Spark mail (a very popular Mac email client) does the exact same thing. Here's a partial screenshot from my Mac in light mode.

Not saying that it's the right or wrong thing to do, but just pointing out that it's definitely a design decision.

Can't do a video right now, but it is super easy to replicate.  Open a new note, put a few tasks in it.  Open another note.  Drag a task from the first note to the second -- voila, two tasks with the same name, both in the notes and also in the tasks window.  Same for completed tasks.

Thank you, this helped clarify things. I thought you meant drag and drop within the same note. I am able to reproduce the behavior you are seeing. I checked and this matches the behavior of other items you might try to drag between notes, such as text, photos, etc. I would be hesitant to introduce a change that would be different than other items. Nonetheless, I've brought it up to our project manager to consider.

If you want to move a task, for now you can either:

    1. In the tasks view, click on the task to open the task editor and click on the move icon next to the note name to change the containing note.
    2. In the editor, click the "..." next to a task to open the task editor and click on the move icon next to the note name to change the containing note.
    3. In the tasks view, drag and drop the task to another note within the tasks view

  10. @SoapmThanks, so your screenshot is what I see as well in both 10.13.4 and 10.15.6. Are you saying the left column used to be lighter? I'm pretty sure it's always been a dark color, regardless of light or dark mode, but I admittedly always use dark mode. I do notice that it gets a darker black if I switch to dark mode.

  11. Hi @Websnail, can you give more context on the shared note so that we can reproduce the problem?

    Some information to include:

    1. Is this a shared note, shared notebook, or a note in a space?
    2. At what permissions level is the note, notebook, or space shared to everybody? Or are there different permissions?
    3. Does it happen when anybody marks the task complete? Or only the assignee?
    4. Does the person marking the task complete have different permissions than others in the note?
    5. Where is the task being marked complete? In the Tasks view or within the shared note? Does it matter for this issue to occur?

Anything you can do to help us would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

  12. Can somebody please provide screenshots of what you're seeing? I tested 10.13.4 and 10.15.6 on both Mac and Windows and I am not seeing a change in the left navigation while Light Mode is selected. There's probably something I'm missing with your configuration that is causing you to have a problem.

Related to this idea of cleaning up by moving completed tasks -- it seems that the default for drag/drop is to copy the task.  I would find the feature more useful/faster if the default was a move, not a copy.  Has this been considered?

Can you provide additional information? Drag and drop should definitely not be duplicating the task. Are you doing this within the note editor? If possible, I'd love to see a video of what you are seeing so I can try to reproduce.

This worked for the actual Tasks page, but I have those tasks in a Note and when completing those they still stay on the list, just greyed and crossed out.

Would there be any way to automatically delete the task from the note when it is completed?

The team is looking into the right way to do this. Need to make sure it's a good user experience.

  15. Go to Settings -> Display & Brightness -> Text Size and try moving the slider to the left to decrease the text size. Once you've done that, if you go back to the Evernote app, the button to continue should hopefully be visible. You can put your setting back afterwards.

The one thing that would cause me to upgrade my Evernote membership and eliminate my current task manager would be to  create Evernote tasks via Siri on my iPhone.

This was requested by several beta users and is on our list of features to look into once we're done with the initial Tasks launch. Thanks for the +1 on this. 🙂

At the very least having it immediately display on mouse over would be an improvement.

We actually tested that out during internal testing and numerous employees were inadvertently triggering the menu when they moused over to get to the navigation below it, like home, shortcuts, notes, etc. I personally found it very frustrating because I kept accidentally creating notes/tasks when I wanted to click a navigation button. The frequency with which the feedback came up from independent employees was enough to remove that as an option.

The problem with Android is that it is an ill defined OS - every hardware manufacturer adds his own „ideas“, and only very few of them provide real support once they pushed their hardware on the customers.

100% this. The fragmentation in the Android market is absolutely insane. The number of possible hardware, screen size, and OS (standard and custom) combinations is absolutely insane compared to Apple.

When a task is marked as complete and I delete them completely, why is there still a placeholder in the note for a new, untitled, task? I'm comparing this to any other object that can be placed inside a note - the expectation is that if I delete the table/photo etc, then there’s isn’t a placeholder for that specific object still left in the note. If you delte a table, there isn't a blank table left in its place. Similarly with a photo, if it is deleted, there isn't a blank "Insert photo here" left in the note. So what leave a placeholder for a task? (see attached screenshot).

Thanks for the detailed bug report and screenshot. I was able to reproduce this and filed a ticket.
