New-style PDF viewing - ugh!

I have been an Evernote customer for years, and absolutely loved the product ... until the new way of handling pdf attachments came. I just joined this forum, only to add to the comments here about the backwards step. This is so obviously a wrong decision - the question is why? Is it just incompetence, or was there a reason for this?
