  1. I'm using EN version 6.16.4.8094 (308094) Public (CE Build ce-58.1.6897) on a 64bit Win10 Laptop. Occasionally when using EN on my iPad, or Android phone, I really love the ability to dictate text via the microphone icon/speech-to-text functionality. Even when using Google search, I tend to mostly dictate my search queries rather than typing. So today I felt it was time that I once-and-for-all get this functionality working on my EN for Windows app. Up until now, when I've had large amounts of text to enter into a note, and wanted to use a dictation feature, I used a 2-step process of 1st going to my other desktop app 'Voice Notepad' (dictation.io)... but having to 1st go to this app, then copy and paste into EN minimised the time saving benefits. Whereas on iPad and Android the feature is right there ready to use, and it works great. I explored EN Help Article How to use speech-to-text to dictate notes but that didn't work. Win-logo + CTRL+H just doesn't work on my machine. I read some other MS Articles, turned speech recognition on etc, trained my PC to my voice, but nada. So anyone out there figured this out??? If yes, please let me know, cheers
  2. An Even Better (and now seems obvious) idea ...cheers Actually, i think i did think about it, but was nervous at having 2 systems running simultaneously! Any issues with this?
  3. UPDATE... Since installing EN v6.16 onto my new laptop, using @gazumped process, I wanted to provide a review of the experience. From a Time perspective - It still took me a good 30 minutes to copy and paste the Old database folder (14 GB - 4,148 notes) and that was using a fast USB3 SanDisk Ultra flash-drive ...so not sure if just syncing files (downloading data) from the EN server with a fresh install would have been quicker or very much longer...so perhaps little time benefit!? From an Settings Accuracy perspective - I noticed that my Tool-bar icon-configurations were NOT maintained/copied across, including shortcuts in sidebar v toolbar (i had them in Toolbar). Plus the font settings reverted to default rather than the one I had selected on my Old previous laptop. Conclusion - Given I still had to check, and adjust things manually, In future when migrating/installing EN to a new PC, I will just use my normal system of fresh installing and reconfiguring the options/settings manually from some previously taken screen-caps. Cheers
  4. And just as an FYI to anyone that will follow this process...I'm copying the 'database' folder now to a USB, and my 'database' folder size for my EN is 14GB (I have approx 4,000 notes). So I had to use a large enough USB formatted using exFAT to accept this large folder/file size
  5. Just Googled it...and yes looks simple straight forward enough to Find & Export Press WIN+R (or use Windows Search Box bottom left) Type 'regedit' to open registry editor Select/highlight/click on the root folder 'computer' Do a CTRL+F to find 'evernote' Select the EN entry Go Menu>File>Export....all done...then import on new machine But this approach scares this layman too much if I ***** something up
  6. Thanks @gazumped ...this is great. I imagine the normal EN syncing process for a new PC/laptop, and having to download all data would be sped up greatly by simply overwriting as you say. Re step #5 Can you clarify... so I install the EN app on New Laptop then exit immediately...without giving it a chance to start syncing etc, is that right??? Re step #6... to overwrite I guess I once again need to know the location of the NEW database location, or should it be the same? Thanks a lot
  7. Cheers...Yeah I knew the data would be downloaded, wasn't sure about the EN app options/settings. No big deal to reconfigure manually, but becomes a pain when there are lots of different apps...so want to document best-practice for this/next time Also, I intend on keeping my Old Laptop as a spare, so I imagine I must also add my New Laptop/device to my one-of-5 (i think it is) allowed devices...right?
  8. I'm using EN 6.16.4.8094 (308094) Public (CE Build ce-58.1.6897) on my existing Laptop and both old and new use Windows Home. I found a post re where to find Older Versions of EN to Download (as I have read too many reports of the latest EN version 6.17 being too buggy) but sad I could not find a similar place on EN website....so anyway that's sorted. But when installing my current EN v6.16 onto my new Laptop-PC is there a way, or recommended process, to import/replicate all my EN options/settings? My current approach is to just screen-capture/or make short videos of each app i need to install on my new system....cheers
  9. EN acknowledged that the article might be a little misleading and so will look at revising it. They re-iterated that the person who shared it is the only one who can revoke access and thereby remove a shared note from the shared with me section. I think it would be nice if we the recipients had the ability to delete these notes the same way "WhatsApp" (messaging app) allows me to 'delete for me' messages received from others. Copy of EN reply attached below...
  10. The answer from EverNote Support is YOU CAN'T DELETE THEM! You have to ask the person who shared the note with you, to revoke access...and I quote EN: " you don't have an access to delete the notes that is shared with you by others. The only option is to contact the person who owns that note and ask them to remove your access to the note " See attached screen-shot of the EN-Support email-reply to my support ticket for their full answer. Also attached is the image referred to...or link here EDIT: I just did a little more research on EN Help & learning pages re Work Chat Shared Notes and found some info that IMHO seems to contradict what they're saying so I have just replied to above ticket with a further question see attached. Will update once i get a response.
  11. Did that...didn't work When I right-click the notebook "workchat notes" in the "Shared with Me" folder from left panel - nothing, no menu appears, so no option to delete the 'notebook' When I right click the visible note from the middle Note-list panel...there is a menu on right-click BUT not option to 'delete' The only options to delete are, and with the note selected... 1) the delete icon in the tool-bar top-right... and 2) From the main Menu > Edit > delete. But again nothing! Failed to delete!? and again did the sign-out sign-in thing... whats the issue you think? Also does the left-panel shared with me disappear if there's nothing in it? cheers
  12. Ok, so double clicking the .enex file on my laptop from the windows explorer folder, or right clicking the file and selecting open, both resulted in the popup notification saying it was imported, but again no import notebook was in fact created and no note imported!? However when I used the EN-for-windows app and went: File>Import>Evernote Export Files... this worked fine. Is the double click approach suppose to work?
  13. Didn't like the idea of leaving the EN platform, but wanted to try this, so I did. As I've never restored an EN ENEX file before (from prior backups) I had to tell Windows which app to use/associate 1st, so I selected EN app.exe. Then when I double-clicked the file, it said 'imported' as a popup notification on my laptop screen...but I couldn't find where the new note was created/imported to? I looked in all notes and sorted by creation date..not there. I looked for an import folder/notebook... none created! What am I missing please? cheers. I will also review how to restore EN backup files
  14. I realised this, only this morning, and exactly as you stated/explained it. Yeah 'Duplicate Note' happens immediately upon clicking it, meaning the note will always and only be copied to the notebook one is working in. Whereas if I click 'copy note' the next step is a dialogue box to choose the notebook destination, plus it does indeed display 2 options at the bottom re preserving Creation date and Tags. Well I'm straight on this now, thanks, need to pay better 'attendion to dedail' and or go out and buy 'EN for Dummies'...lol 😉 cheers
  15. I predominantly use EN-for-Windows, and am currently on version 6.16.4.8094 (308094) Public (CE Build ce-58.1.6897) Note... I found no useful info/answers when searching 'EN Help & Learning' that answers this, or anything really, on 'copy note' or 'duplicate note'. Only after thinking about this, it dawned on me that perhaps EN's intention is (my guess): > Copy Note - When wanting to copy to a 'different' notebook (but interesting how the menu-bar drop-down, or right-click menu, says 'copy note' instead of 'copy to notebook' like I think it once did) > Duplicate Note - When wanting to copy to the 'same' notebook you're currently working from Sometimes I need to create some quick copies of a new-note, that has the bare bones of the notes structure in place, for example: Note-Title Prefix, Tags, Note Body-Content Title, Table etc... and during these one-off times, creating an EN Template wouldn't help, as additionally Templates don't keep Note-Title or Tags, I believe, just the note-body content. Anyway I discovered: COPY-NOTE (SAME NOTEBOOK) TEST RESULTS: Tag(s) -REMOVED 'copy' note-title annotation -NOT ADDED Note-Reminder -RETAINED Note Creation Date -NEW DATE/TIME ADDED DUPLICATE-NOTE (SAME NOTEBOOK) TEST RESULTS: Everything was duplicated perfectly Tag(s) -RETAINED 'copy' note title annotation- ADDED Note-Reminder-RETAINED Note Creation Date -ORIGINAL-NOTE DATE/TIME RETAINED Not a biggy, but might help improve usability if EN cleared this up, or just explained it better, as from here on I will just use 'Duplicate-Note' then drag to the notebook I want, if indeed I need it in another notebook, but most of time I use this when in the same notebook. I also questioned why the 'note-reminder' is retained ...and why the 'copy' note-title annotation is NOT added when using 'copy-note'? Which are you guys using - Copy or Duplicate?
  16. Small things can sometimes make a big difference. I've had the same experience with others helping me out on these forums as well...glad it helped, cheers
  17. I have experienced this as well, and have the same version as you. When positioning the cursor on the start position, then holding down the Left-Mouse-Button, and scrolling highlighting/selecting the text, beyond just the visible page, that I want to copy or move, EN gets very jerky as you say, and continues to get worse the larger the quantity of text I try to highlight...but eventually mine gets there, though I never bother using this method! The simplest/easiest and most effective method I use when wanting to select large blocks of text, or any type of content for that matter...is to: Simply Click the Starting Place/Position of the content to be copied - so the cursor will be blinking in that location Use the Page/Note's Vertical Scroll Bar -or- your Mouse Wheel to navigate to the End Position of the content you want selected/copied/moved Once you've identified he End Position > Hold down your SHIFT Key 1st (then while holding it down) Click your Left Mouse Button...all should now be highlighted in an instant
  18. Think I had a brain ***** moment re above... a simple workaround would be to just copy and paste the multiple paragraphs/sections straight in to MS Word then back again once fixed... or some online spell checker- see example cheers
  19. I'm using EN 6.16.4.8094 (308094) Public (CE Build ce-58.1.6897), on a Windows 10, 64-bit laptop. Rather than having to right-click each individual word that EN identifies as being misspelled (underlined in red squigly line) is their a way to highlight a whole paragraph/section of text and be automatically taken to each error (similar to MS Word)? Doing it one-by-one is a real pain at times.
  20. I can't get this to work. After entering the last CMD command line, the patch command, I get an error saying: 'sfk' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. I spent quite a while studying this post/thread and everyone's advice. Here are the bullet steps I put together from everything I've read here. 1 Create a folder: C:\tools 2 Move downloaded Swiss File Knife App - SFK193.exe to this new folder c:\tools (rename app to sfk.exe) 3 Make sure my Windows User profile has administrator privileges 4 Make sure EN Folder (where EN.exe lives) is NOT read only (thanks @IvankaMW) 5 Enable 'Beta features in EN' | Go EN Menu > Tools > Options > General 6 Completely Close EN (clipper and app) check task manager 7 Open CMD (Command Prompt Desktop app - defaults to user): C:\Users\ricka> 8 Type the following 4 commands, one per line, followed by the Enter key, at the CMD system prompt, which is where it says C:\Users\ricka: c:\tools\sfk.exe CD \ CD "C:\Program Files (x86)\Evernote\Evernote" sfk rep Evernote.exe -firsthit -text "/-webkit-touch-callout: text;/background-color: #b2b1b3; /" -yes From your @noteworthy original post you also say to download and rename the batch file (EN-color.txt' to EN-color.bat) before running it, which I did download and rename, but I don't know how this factors in to the above process...how to use it??? I will also try the Hex editor (never done this before) approach using Ashetty' Help-Comments (if indeed this is how to use his advice) Looking forward to anyone's help here to help me with the missing pieces and to connect the dots
  21. I don't understand what's required here...please help? Can you provide an example...cheers
  22. I was just searching for an answer to this, to the "how to quickly scroll/go to the bottom /end of an EN note" when I came upon this post. I considered the solution for MAC OS X users given above, and thought there must be something for PC users such as myself. Until just this moment, I simply used my mouse' scroll wheel...but after experimenting on my keyboard I discovered...2 methods/options: 1) Hit the keyboards 'Page Down' button to go down page-by-page -or- 'Page Up' to go Up page-by-page 2) Press CTRL + END keys to go directly to the end of the note - and vice versa - CTRL + HOME keys to go directly to the top of the note...yay Happy Noting
  23. The .webp image format was developed by Google in 2010. I am noticing more and more websites are using this format due to its apprently better site-speed loading performance. The problem is that when I clip a page to EN, using 'simplified article' or any other web clipper selection, the images are obviously not appearing and in their place is a standard icon/file name all wrapped inside a boxed border. Anyone know if EN plans on adding the .webp format to their existing .jpg and ,png formats? Attached is an example note i just clipped...cheers
