If your tablet or phone came with evernote pre-installed, all you have to do is go to the Google play store, select my apps & games, scroll down to Evernote, select it and click 'uninstall'. This will restore evernote to the version that came pre-installed on your tablet/phone, which incidentally allows the use of the S-Pen. Make sure to uncheck the auto update checkbox to stop it from updating to the newest version. The trade off is the new features, but seeing as being able to write notes with the S-Pen is the biggest advantage on a note device, I guess it's worth going back to the earlier versions until evernote figures it out.
