  1. To be sure to keep and backup the Evernote legacy installation (as a sort of offline archive) I recommend the following steps: Backup your Evernote installation Be sure to be logged on in Evernote legacy when going through the following steps Backup Registry values [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Evernote] Backup Database folder (%userprofile%\Evernote) Warning: Be sure to back it up only when every Evernote process in Windows has been killed! e. g. WebClipper, Evernote Tray Icon, Evernote legacy Write down your Volume id from Volume C: (with 'dir C:') Stop network traffic to and from Evernote legacy create an outgoing and incoming firewall rule Adjust your sync settings in Evernote legacy deactivate everything except sync in background (for minimizing to tray) In case of a damage of your Evernote legacy installation: it's possible to restore everything with the help of data and information collected in steps 1.2. - 1.4. Hint: The volume ID of 'C:' should not be changed (e. g. it changes when you repartition your volume 'C:') no network is necessary to open Evernote legacy when the data has been restored properly
  2. Before copying the folder %USERPROFILE%\Evernote it is important to kill or terminate every Evernote process. Usually, there are two or three of them: The legacy process Evernote.exe, the icon in the system tray (Evernote Tray.exe) and the EvernoteClipper.exe. Be sure that you are logged in in Evernote when doing this backup. BTW Very useful is to write down your volume id of the C:\ partion...The volume id can be seen with the 'dir C:' command. Now, restoring your old Evernote legacy installation and using your old backup files is always possible without logging in on the original system (with the original volume C:) because the state of the database says that you are already logged in. You can even migrate to other systems as an offline virtual machine when the 'C:' volume has the same volume id as the original volume.
  3. Please, would you mind to open a new - own - thread if you have any questions about Evernote or restoring your old installation? Your question has nothing to do which has been discussed here. Thanks.
  4. Thanks for the warning. There are only unimportant notices ... (hope so!)
  5. This option works. (Already exported them with html and enex). No editing in the old notes is possible anymore? Thank you for this information. I think I'll prefer option 1...
  6. Sure. This is absolutely no problem because they are already exported in several formats and imported on several systems (Obsidian and Notion). But I like the idea of freezing my old notes as an archive which I think has to be consolidated some time. And I like the old Evernote app. I made the experience that I did not use my old notes in Evernote on mobile devices. For spreading some (short!) notes to mobile devices I am using Google Notes because it's really fast. But this is beyond this discussion.
  7. I am planning to keep my old Evernote collection of notes (Windows 10, legacy v6, free plan) as an unmodified archive. For new notes I will use another note system (or perhaps I will stop writing notes completely ...;-) So I have several options: Keeping the old Evernote legacy installation just running without any online access Updating to v10 as Evernote recommends ist since weeks Forgetting my local Windows client and just using the web interface with my old notes Of course I know about the possibilities of exporting the notes in Evernote and importing them on a foreign system. But this should not be discussed here. Option 1 is very easy to realize. Just a firewall rule to prohibit network traffic in/out - that's it. The advantage would be, that I could use Evernote further on even for new notes which could appear during the consolidation process of my old notes (if I have time). Of course this would work only on one lonely Windows PC without the ability to synchronize to the web or other devices. But this would be ok for me. There would be no limit of 50 notes, of course. And Evernote cannot log me out. Option 2 is unclear for me. I have more than 50 notes (about 1000 old notes). Can I access those old notes with the new Evernote v10 client without any problems? (As I said I am not planning to create new notes which won't be possible anymore with the free plan.) And finally option 3: Are there any drawbacks to expect? I did not use the web interface in the past, but it seems to work well for ocassionally access. Or will there be an annoying pop-up window every 5 minutes to remember me to update to a paid plan? I am planning to realize option 1, but nevertheless I am curious about option 2 or 3. What are you thinking about it? Thanks for any hints, Thorsten
  8. I meant: Have many users requested to be able to insert emojis (and not to turn them off). Disabling auto-formatting is a workaround but not something I want to because I like to insert e.g. a line or a bullet list with the known shortcuts. But it seems that I have to deactivate it completely. Some more options in Evernote would make everybody happy. The emoji hater and the fans.... Shouldn't be too hard to implement IMO.
  9. Thanks for the hint. This is not really something I need - Emoji auto-formatting... I am using Emojis when I communicate with somebody else, but I do not need it within my own notes (I am not schizophrenic). An I do not need them when sharing a note, too. Therefore there should be an option to turn off Emoji auto-formatting completely when not using Evernote in teams. Anyway: Emojis seem not to function very well in Windows. Attached a screenshot. If I had at least seen the result of the auto-formatting correctly I would not have asked here for the meaning of 'D:'. BTW Really useful features as e. g. different highlighter colors I am missing in Evernote since years. But something completely superfluous as Emojis is being implemented. Have many users asked for something like that?
  10. Today I discovered the result of an input of 'D: '. Here is an example: d: abc 😧 abc (this is the result of 'D: abc'!) What is the sense of this special character , and why is D: beeing substituted through it? Thanks for any hint. Edit: Explanation why I asked this question: I am not seeing the Emoji on the second line in Windows Chrome nor in Evernote. But it's visible on my mobile phone (Android, Chrome).
  11. That's very normal for Evernote. I waited for the same time when I started to use the enumeration format in EN and noticed that there were tons of bugs. But then... - after a long while - they corrected it. But ok, I cannot demand anything because I don't pay anything. I only pay for products which are nearly bugfree, provide a certain amount of features and react to customers. (Hard to find, I have to admit.) I hope that EN will change in regard to those three aspects.
  12. I cannot confirm this. Evernote works as expected. (Windows 10 b1709, EN 6.18.4.8489) Thorsten
  13. I experienced this bug only in a shared notebook. When I disabled sharing, the 'cursor jumping' stopped. (Evernote for Windows, 6.17.6.8292)
