As soon as you type into the body of a note you lose the ability to add a template to it. That seems perfectly logical to me. Could you describe your use case?

Seems perfectly IL-logical to me. Evernote specifically offers templates that are perfectly useful as just a PART of a note. The Eisenhower Matrix is something I have on screen at the moment.

It's perfectly logical that  one should be perfectly able to insert a template that is a table, or a checklist, or whatever, into an exsting note, and there is every reason why that would be useful.

If they were starting again from scratch, all the more reason to incorporate such a glaring oversight from their original product. The one and only excuse for not implementing this feature before now is that they made a mess of the coding originally - no such excuse when you are starting from a clean slate.

You make a good point, and I have no portfolio as an Evernote apologist, but it seems to me they took a step backward with the product, and are just now starting to get close to catching up with where they were before. I'm not holding my breath exactly, but it's arguably possible that they might actually get to the point, in another update or two, of taking positive steps forward; e.g. by implementing desirable features such as allowing users to control what images show in thumbnails in the snippet view.

I wonder how long it would take if all the polite paying users who have taken the effort to sign up to this community and post their request and have then been waiting for years with no fix, took instead to writing to Facebook, and Twitter, and Redit. I'm pretty sure this simple request has become a news worthy story. A text book case study in how to seriously annoy a dedicated user base.  I'm ready to guess that the fix would be distributed a day or so after the first negative press.

As best I can gather, Evernote has over the past year or two, redone their entire product from scratch, starting from the back-end and working to the front end. Apparently their original back-end database and server setup was un-scaleable, and this ostensibly also obliged them to rewrite the front-end (user interface) as well. It would seem that these were viewed as critical, existential issues by the Evernote people (presumably they needed to redo the whole thing or their shaky product would crumble).

Whatever your opinion of what they did and what they've come out with since, it would appear that they have been too busy "(re)doing their own thing" from scratch, to attend to fine-tuning type end-user requests such as our wanting to control what images show in thumbnails / snippet view.

  4. Every time I use the camera in the Evernote iPhone app (e.g. version 10.3) it defaults to "AUTO" scanning, where it flounders around trying to capture an image on it's own.

I personally find this feature useless, as it's slow at best, and doesn't even work well with white-paper documents on a black background. It would be faster and more accurate (i.e. efficient) just to frame my document / image captures myself without this low-IQ app trying to make decisions as to framing and content which it's just not well able to make.

I want unfettered access to the camera without having to flounder with that (useless or not) "AUTO" feature every time I want to capture an image!

  5. I would like to see this Evernote feature, and others which users have been requesting for years.

As you can see, this one has gone unaddressed for NINE years; --and so far, I don't see it in the Evernote "Preview" beta for the big rewrite they've been promising for the past couple years  either.

One can't help getting the impression that Evernote is practically impervious to their customers.

    Eat cake, folks.

You've tacked on to a feature request discussion for sort options.

I find data searches work the same on each platform and I use the same search shortcuts

More info on the search grammar can be viewed here     Evernote Search Grammar

DT - You're quite right. I was quite unclear; so based on your courteous suggestion, I have hopefully made my meaning and it's pertinence to the topic at hand, more comprehensible. Thank you for your kind notice.

  7. I rue being UNable to set the sort order (in the iOS app) so as to show my latest journal entries first, which notes I (for this very reason) title for this very purpose (e.g. 20170503 DAILY JOURNAL).

Having to scroll down through dozens, hundreds, or thousands of entries on an iPhone is prohibitive; and because I have lots of other things going on in Evernote, using the "most recently updated" sort still leaves things disorganized and hard to find when you're trying to pop something up quickly in front of a group of people, say, in a meeting.

I bought on the promise that Evernote works across platforms, and have invested a great deal of data into Evernote in hopes of being able to quickly and conveniently access the information I need "on the hoof" from my hand-held iOS "phablet", and for that matter, my take-it-on-the-plane iPad PRO. Isn't that pretty much along the lines of what they tell us when they're asking us to commit to that monthly (or yearly) payment?

In practice, and without specifically enumerating issues off the sort-order topic here, I have been disappointed at finding the Evernote iOS app not-so-ready-for-prime-time-really. It's relatively difficult to extract complex information from a small device in any case, so in that sense the iOS app really needs to be better; --and not just a abridged-afterthought redheaded-stepchild version of the PC app.

I HOPE AND ASK that Evernote beef up the iOS app. I think they should start from a blank slate and build a new iOS / mobile app from scratch. It's that clumsy and ungainly as it is. I think that, at the very least, paying customers who need to access Evernote via iOS deserve better than what they're getting!
