@iRock1 -  This has been an issue in the past but we implemented some fixes a number of versions ago. There are a few things I'd like you to check if this is still an issue for you:

    1. If you installed the desktop app via the Mac App Store, try switching to the direct download from Evernote.com. Instructions are on our KB: https://evernote.com/contact/support/kb/#!/article/24422932
    2. If you are still seeing the same issue after switching to the direct download, try a Spotlight rebuild by performing the following steps in Evernote: (Edit: Apologies, I originally provided the wrong instructions)

    1. Hold down the Option key on your keyboard and hover over "Help" on the top menu bar

    2. Mouse over "Troubleshooting" on the dropdown menu that appears

    3. Select "Recreate Spotlight Search Index"

If this still doesn't resolve your issue, please submit a support ticket, post the ticket number here and we can take a look.

I followed the instructions that you provided earlier (I didn't read your update in time). I removed Evernote (which was originally installed via the App Store), then installed it again using the image available on the website. Then I rebuilt the Spotlight database using the method published earlier.

Not sure if removing Evernote in first place was absolutely necessary though, but now it works as it should.

    Thank you.

  2. Thanks for your reply, iRock1. I have a premium account and have opened a ticket. Will post the result.

However, I noticed that there was an update just a few days ago, and I'm not sure if the problem that you mention happened to me before or after that date. The other problem, related to the Evernote helper not starting after I reboot my computer, is still there though.

  3. I don't know what's going on with the Evernote helper, honestly. Not only I had the problem described in the first post of this thread, but also I've lost some important information because the Evernote helper doesn't seem to save what I've written in my default notebook. And that seems like a very serious issue.

Do the Evernote crew really pretend that we trust their app when our information is lost? And they want us to upgrade to a premium account just so we can contact the staff and tell them about all these bugs? HAHA.

  4. Anyone? It's simple thing to try.

I experienced exactly the same problem a few days ago—and I lost some very important information.

It's a shame that nobody has said anything on this. Even worse is the fact that we can't contact the Evernote staff directly, because we don't have a premium account. I guess that means we can't trust Evernote as a secure way of saving our files and notes.

FWIW, this happened on my iMac (OS X 10.9.5). However, on my MacBook (which is using the same version of OS X) the Evernote helper doesn't even start after I reboot my computer. I have to open Evernote and manually activate that option in the Preference menu every time!
