  1. It's difficult to try this over and over. I did it twice but found that since it wipes out ALL the existing data it's too expensive to reload every time. I have only cellular connections I tether my tablet to (S7+) so downloading a few GB of offline data is bloody expensive. I will use v8.13 until my subscriptions to Premium both run out and then switch to something else. And yes, the "basic" functions are unusable in the v10.?? I tried a month or so ago. Lost 3.7GB of notes testing that one.
  2. It's unfortunate indeed. They are simply repeating what so many others have attempted and failed since I first saw the "write-once-run-everywhere" fiasco with the 8088 and 6502 CPUs. It didn't work then and it likely won't work now. Using some intermediate scripting language is always going to slow things down. ANY scripting language is going to slow things down compared to writing in a lower level language with a compiler optimized for the target platform. Want speed? Use assembler. But there are very few programmers these days, everyone is writing scripts (we used to call them script-kiddies since they didn't know anything about programming) using Java and this stuff Evernote has adopted. I'm wondering what is going to happen to all those Windows 7 users. Some are unable to switch to Win 10 as there are critical applications that don't run there or the cost to replace the systems is too high. Are these folks going to be told to take a hike? I've converted 99.999% of my notes to Joplin. After Evernote wiped out five years work with their latest Android update (they deleted over 3GB of my notes from my tablet but left the snippets) I decided they couldn't be trusted to keep my data safe so I keep a bare minimum in Evernote. From 3500 notes in Evernote I'm down to a dozen that I need to update frequently. One of my Premium accounts is now closed, the other will expire later this year and will not be renewed. If I can't trust them, I can't use them. And I can no longer trust Evernote.
  3. My problem is not exactly this but it is similar. I instructed Evernote to NOT renew my Premium subscriptions (I have 2) when they come due. I changed my mind about one subscription but it seems that that is not allowed. There is no place I can find in "My Account" or "Account Status" or anywhere else that would allow me to turn the renewal back on. If they don't want my money, I can use something else. I could always just create a new account but that's a major PITA what with a few gigabytes of notes to reload. Strange how they make it so easy to close an account but so hard to "unclose" the same account.
  4. It does appear a bit quicker. Thumbnails show up faster and the note gets loaded faster although the latter depends on the connection I imagine. Without an internet connection, loading the note still takes forever (literally.) I can't use it if requires a connection to access my previous notes. It looks very nice and I even tried creating a new entry. I had to quit and go back to v6.25.1 as I couldn't create the new note. I hate having to constantly search for the key combination to do basic tasks. Ctrl-Backspace? Give me a break! And how do I insert the date/time in my system format "2021-01-18 23:45"? Ctrl-Alt-D won't do it.
  5. Fuzzy searching? All my stuff is fuzzy. I'm retired remember and my eyesight is getting bad so everything is fuzzy these days. But seriously though, I would have to say their search is not up to Evernote's standards. Searching PDF/Word files is not there, nor is text recognition in images and a search can't be restricted to specific items (eg: search in title only) but Joplin is pretty new. It's still version 1.xx so there's a lot of enhancements possible by the time it gets to version 6.xx. Hopefully they don't follow Evernote and come up with a version 10.xx BTW For those who like dark themes, Joplin has a few of those that work well even in Windows 7. My old eyes are most grateful for that.
  6. Security is far better than Evernote's. Full end-to-end encryption is built-in although since I'm using my own NAS (with its own encryption) Joplin's is not required. So whether the data is stored on your local file system, on Dropbox, OneDrive or wherever, it's encrypted. It can even be stored on gdrive although for privacy reasons I would never put anything on a Google controlled system. That's another concern I've had for quite some time - the fact that all the Evernote data is on Google servers. I don't care who says what about it being secure, Google is Google and if they decide to read it they can.
  7. I've been using EN Premium under various accounts since about 2014 and I don't have a lot of notes (< 2500) which are all probably better suited to some sort of database rather than as "notes" but EN worked so I kept at it. I have tried the new version 10 a few times and it looks very pretty but for my purposes doesn't work very well. I use portables a lot (Acer laptop & MS Surface Pro along with Android phones and tablets) and not having all my stuff instantly available is pretty awkward at times. Lack of the usual shortcuts as well as changes to them (I like '2021-01-20' for a date vs. 'January 20, 2021' for sorting purposes) are causing difficulty as well. However, with time it might be possible to adapt. After all, it's been six years learning the old Evernote and while I can't remember those olden days I imagine things then were difficult as well simply due to lack of experience with the product. However, my concern is not so much with the product's current incarnation but with Evernote's overall direction. I can imagine the panic some Friday afternoon when the announcement is made that legacy EN will no longer function as of Monday and people had best download version 10 ASAP if they want to retain access to their data. With this nightmare in mind I have done a ton of experimenting with similar products/alternatives (I'm retired, I have time to do that stuff) such as OneNote (MS loves reading your notes), Nimbus (if you thought the EN editor was lame, Nimbus is legless), and all the others. Then I found an open-source package called Joplin. For my purposes its only drawback is the lack of thumbnails which make things easier for my old eyes . It doesn't have much in the way of formatting as it's markdown based but I don't need a lot of formatting. It imports ENEX files almost perfectly (again, for my purposes) and runs on every platform there is. It syncs perfectly with multiple cloud providers but I use it with webDAV on my Synology NAS. Everything is always available on my devices, no network required (think EN offline-notebook access) and I can sync when I get home or feel like connecting to my LAN. This is not a solution for everyone but it works for me. And I don't have to worry about EN suddenly cutting off "legacy" access. There's a learning curve but after a month or so of duplicating every action (I'm retired, I can do that) it seems to work well. And the best part - it's FREE. My two "premium" Evernote subscriptions might not be renewed.
  8. I too have problems with this but I found that the Ctrl-Scroll wheel with the mouse allows me to adjust the display zoom in Evernote (or a browser) so it is easier to read.
  9. I reported this "nbsp" and template issue about 30 minbutes after the template feature came out years ago. I wasn't even using a table but I was using different fonts with different attributes. One line was a label (eg: 10pt, blue, bold, underlined) and the next I wanted to have indented with a larger font. The only way to get Evernote to "remember" that the line was to be a larger font was to have something on the line, I chose a space to be invisible but keep the font selection alive for that line. Every "place-holding" space character in my template was translated into the 5 characters "&nbsp". when I tried to use the template. I stopped trying to use templates then and never tried since. Duplicate worked just as well as templates so I gave up on them.
  10. Dark Reader is also available for FireFox for those who would prefer that Google not watch their every click.
  11. I too did that, but I have more than one system and rather than download 125MB for each, I figured I would grab the installer and save the data. I eventually located a link to it but am unsure how to stick that link in a forum posting so I tried to point to the specific forum section where I found it. Not sure if even that worked but I did get my installer and updated everything.
  12. I'll toss in a "me-too" for that link. But I finally found it at https://discussion.evernote.com/forum/224-evernote-for-windows/ or at least that's a link to the link. I think.
  13. Too bad I'm in Canada. On this side of the pond we are left swinging in the wind for this stuff. The only thing that can be done is to cancel the card. I suspect Nimbus is very close to shutting their doors and are just trying to grab as much cash as they can before shutting down their servers.
  14. I only started using their application because, unlike Evernote, (me big fan too!) the Android version allowed "local" notes. I found the thing very easy simply because I was used to Evernote and the ability to do a quick note that stayed local was attractive. There were tons of notepads available but the Evernote UI was familiar. Oh, well. Win some, lose some. The $60 they lifted from me won't kill me and replacing a prepaid card is easy. It's the principle that irks me. They steal the design of Evernote, they steal the UI of Evernote, they basically came up with a counterfeit version and nothing can be done, and when they also steal people's money, again, nothing can be done according to the VISA people.
  15. Just an update to my experience with Nimbus Note. They released an update a few months back that erased ALL my notes. I complained and got the usual (for them anyway) "We reserve the right blah...blah...blah". So I stopped using it. I sent them an email via their website telling them I did not want to renew. Well, I just got a charge on my credit card for another year. I used one of those "prepaid" cards when I signed up just in case they were a fly-by-night outfit. They must have tried a few times to charge it as the card didn't have that much on it. So they must have tried lower and lower amounts until one went through. I'll have to scrap that card. So, if you want to go with Nimbus, good luck. They have no respect for your data and the only way to stop your subscription will be to cancel your credit card. I suspect that Cleveland address they use is just a mail drop to give the impression they have an American presence.
  16. OK. Who's doing the magic? The search did not work on Thursday. I tried it on two tablets (S4 and S6) and tried it on my phone (S10+) and it did not find the text/word I entered. I read your replies this morning and was going to grab some screenshots to show the non-result and presto - it worked. I haven't done anything different in the last few days. Just routine PlayStore updates and the occasional Evernote sync on the tablets but now it works. Maybe I was searching too soon after adding the records to Evernote. I've been running EN on Android for years but never tried a search before, so perhaps it was just timing that foiled me. But, it's working so I'm happy. Thanks for the assistance.
  17. I tried a search (for the very first time on android) and got a pop-up telling me that since I was "Premium" I could search attachments and PDFs too. This is wonderful but the search I tried had the text in the body of the notes (Windows finds 5 notes) rather than in an attachment. Nothing was found. It just says "Try another search." As I mentioned, Windows reports 5 matches and what's even funnier is that the very first note in "All notes" had the text in it. Actually it was the very first word of the very first note (sorted by title) that I was searching for so I expected it would be found there at least. I already knew exactly which notes had the text, I just wanted to see how long it would take Evernote to find it. Is there something beyond "Premium" that I have to subscribe to in order to search the body of notes? btw - This was on a Samsung S6 tablet so CPU power/memory speed isn't an issue.
  18. Switch from "plus" and you are stuck with "Premium" forever. They will have to come up with a better deal for Plus users if they want to get them into a higher price bracket. Basic (I have one of those as well) is essentially useless. 60MB wouldn't cover a dozen photos from a typical camera these days and even scanned PDF files can be huge just because they are images rather than text. Plus was a happy medium that was quite useful.
  19. Yup. Works for me. I use the "Duplicate" all the time and this will help a bunch. Thanks muchly.
  20. I've got both a Plus and a Premium account and the "Plus" is NOT eligible (that's what it says when I try) for this upgrade discount. I had considered it but if I can't do it I really don't care. The "Plus" is just for testing stuff anyway.
  21. There's a URL that appears at the upper right above the toolbar. It's always been there I guess but I only noticed it recently. It can be cleared easily enough but I was wondering how to stop it from getting there in the first place and is there a way to automatically go through all notes and clear it, or is it one at a time manually?
  22. At last! Halle-loo-ya! No more added lines with "paste and match style" and attachments drop where you tell them to drop. My life is now complete. Excellent work folks.
  23. This has been happening in all versions after 6.16.4 and I've pointed it out for every new version since then. Hence I am still running 6.14.4. I see it with a "Paste and Match Style" though where a couple of extra returns are put into the text. It really makes the cut/paste operation into a cut/paste/now-fix-it operation and takes forever to correct if there's a lot to do. The 6.20.1 beta was the first time anybody acknowledged the issue and I'm expecting version 99.99.9 (or some version thereabouts) will cure it. Forgive me if I seem a tad cynical, but new "features" have a higher priority than ancient "bugs".
  24. My screen in Windows shows AAAAABBBBB, followed by a blank line followed by the final 5 A's. Started as one line of 15 characters and now the count is a line of 10, a blank, and a line of 5. That's two returns to go from 1 line to 3. Or is my math as bad as my eyesight? It may not be a problem for most people but cut and paste is a big part of what I'm doing and re-editing after every paste is a wee bit time consuming. After the first few hundred copy/paste operations it gets downright annoying. So, I'll be sticking with version 6.16.4, the last version that did the paste properly.
  25. Here's the problem. I snipped a few bits of the screen to show what it does. The first image shows what I start with. The second shows my selection of the middle 5 characters and the third shows what happens if I do a Ctrl-C (copy) followed directly by a Ctrl-Shift-V (paste & match style). I was pretty sure the thing started out all on one line but my poor eyes now seem to see more than one line. If the general opinion is that the 15 characters are still all on a single line as they started out I'll get new glasses.
