  1. I am trying to setup 2FA with Evernote and 1Password, Authy, or Google Authenticator. First, the key code Evernote gives to enter into your 2FA app, would be much better, and more able to rule out end user error, were it able to be copied and pasted. ( at least in iOS ) I have copied the code, and taken the resulting 6 digit key to Evernote, where it is promptly rejected. I should mention, I have 15+ other websites using the same procedure and successfully using 2FA, it is only Evernote that doesn’t work. I can see the 2FA 6 digit code in 1Password, Authy, and Google Authenticator, all match, and all are synced and expiring at the same time. That should rule out my need to sync any clocks or anything of that nature. Just to be safe I did anyway, though I don’t know how much I can change about the time on iOS. It’s either 12 or 24 hour, I’m not willing to shift my time on my mobile beyond that cosmetic change. I fear too much in iOS relies on the time bring pretty precise. In searching the web, there’s one app out there that seems to stand alone in that users are not able to finish setting up 2FA and abandon the forum post. Evernote. I can only imagine how many support tickets users walk from knowing it’s not them. I don’t see other apps having any trouble setting this up. I see others with invalid keys, and also many other apps already working, its only Evernote that is spitting out the wrong key. I think I can safely say, somehow, Evernote is giving out the wrong start seed. I have an older 2FA entry for Evernote in Authy, and that one, out of 3 more in Authy, 2 in 1Password, and 1 in Authenticator, gives out a different 6 digit code. It is also based on a different 16 digit input key. But it works. For some reason 2FA on Evernote is giving out the wrong key, or O’s and 0’s are getting fiddled internally or by end users. I’ve tried swapping to no success. Is the web client the only way to enable 2FA? How do I enable it on iOS? Mac OS? Please chiMe in if you too walked from getting this working.
  2. Regardless of your security settings, be they passcode with digits, fingerprint, facial, or some combination thereof… upon launch before the locked screen is presented and you are asked for a fingerprint or password, you get a chance to peek at the screen last used. A screenshot can even be snuck in. Slower phones give you more time, this ( screenshot ) was taken on an iPhone 8 Plus, with fingerprint authentication enabled.
  3. I would say, I actually took the time to login to these forums for the first time in a long while just to say, if I had a usability study that told me to remove the fill feature from any pain or photo editing style app, I would take those results and throw them in the trash, because they are inaccurate, tainted or otherwise, screwed up. You can't trust a study in which people tell you they are not going to need a solid color fill. nonsense, Skitch just become worthless in so many situations and the workarounds I can think of are painful.
  4. Was this duplicate items set created all at once? Or even if not all at once, you have 2000 items, and then 2000 more were created. You should be able to find all the items, there must be some commonality that they have in which you can do a search to locate just the 4000 in question. Then sort by date created, date added, date modified, date last modified, or whatever criteria makes sense given your knowledge. Now you have a huge chunk of the list items in order that need deleting. I am not sure how many items you can show on the page, you may want to move to the web version of EN in order to use Javascript, or you can use Applescript if on the Mac, and I am sure something else if on Windows. Somehow, you need to iterate thought the found set and select 1-2000 and then hit the delete key. Or delete them one at a time. Search the forums, the applescript is out there in some form or another and a little hacking to it will work it out for your case.
  5. And I bellve, they now have a new CEO, who has stated the same, to deliver on those promises, jettison the cruft that has built up over time, and get things focused. On day one, since he did not remove the socks, the terrible scanner that is hampered down, the note books, and basically the entire store, seriously, socks?! I have little hope, that is a email away to disable those features on the site, no one cares to wear Evernote socks, that is just a company that is too large, and execs are having a fun time when they are golfing with their embroidered socks. Have not heard a peep out of the new CEO since he was announced and put in place.
  6. Safari, 9.0, OS X El Capitan 10.11 Evernote 6.1.1 Any web page, select the share sheet, select Evernote, and a modal window just spins. I searched the forums, and read it just can take some time. Is 30 minutes long enough on an Evernote forum page? How about 30 minutes on the Evernote home page? Neither worked, that is just how lone I waited before I gave up. Anyone had any success with this? Anyone have any alternative solutions? I know there are other apps that use the share sheets and they happen immediately. I can send a page to notes, email, reminders, etc., and there is no delay.
  7. I think the only way to do this, unless the FB API gives you access to the Messages, would be to scan the wire live, and pull the messages out before they get sent. Though if it is over SSL, I would have to install something like Charles, and even then, I may not be able to get around it, though I don't see why not. But scanning live network traffic and sniffing out just the messages, hopefully they are on their own port, and easily pulled out, that is a pretty tough challenge.
  8. I downloaded the software right from the Fujitsu site, and they now have a new download that is a software updater app. I ran that and it found some stuff to update. As far as i know I am up to date. The scanner works, and there are mentions of EN all over the ScanSnap software. I can scan directly to Evernote, which is like a drag and dtop in my opinion. But EN does not see the scanner, at least not over wifi. I have not tried with USB. Does someone have a working setup and can you post a screen shot of what the preference pane looks like when not disabled. I want to see what the options are. If it is just auto filing tuff would not use it anyway. I don't trust auto filing in EN or any app and will always manually file my stuff exactly where I want it, so I may not even want to use this feature, though it would be nice just to know that it is working as expected. Thanks
  9. Is there any way that someone knows how I could automate the Messenger chats from Facebook into a running note in EverNote? The same for Apple Messages.app as well. That I think I could locally script actually. Not sure about the attachments tough. It could get a little complicated. And the desktop and mobile versions of Messages.app are never in good sync so it could be extra tough. But for Messenger, I hate having my chats there and delete them when done. I know FB still keeps a copy, I only hope over enough time they do truly delete or that deleting them, were any request for data to FB would not include deleted stuff even if they keep a copy. Any suggestions?
  10. I think I cool topic to have as a blog post would be the differences, challenges, reasons, and any info relating to there being two versions of EverNote for Mac Desktop. There is the store version and the web download version. With support and many users suggesting we download the web version instead of the store version, there must be good reason. If EN was a paid app, we would not have this option. Unless EN would take and Apple receipt as proof to gain a serial/activation code. Luckily Evernote model is a subscription one and the app is free. I'm curious what we would lose or gain in performance, troubleshooting, problems, features, etc if we only had the store version available. I like the store versions. I like that all my updates are in one place. I like that the software is vetted by Apple. I like a lot about the store. I also like that there are apps not in the store and we still have that option. But that I consider for non commercial software. Software where the user knows what they are doing. Testing software, things like wireshark and others, I would not want those in the store. But I would love to see Adobes entire kit, ScanSnap, all that in the store. Forcing them to make an app that is generally a single bundle and not an app the litters all o we the place. ScanSnap installs so much, Libs and other files that do t even look like mac files and I'm near certain they are not used. I'm going to move some stuff around and find out though. Regardless, a blog post about all this would be cool. In EverNote's case it's not about the 30% they would be losing. I think they actually save money as Apple covers the bandwidth fees on free apps like EverNote. Just an idea, I hope to one day see a post about.
  11. I didn't buy any special scansnap for Evernote, I could not understand the difference and assumed there is no way that Fijitsu made special hardware for EverNote. So I have the ScanSnap ix500 Mac and PC Edition with additional software. It works great, but the preference area in EverNote is still greyed out even when in active scanning mode. I am connected to it over wi-fi and have not looked at what the preference panel looks like when USB connected. How do I get the EverNote app to open up the prefs to the scanner?
  12. Drafts looks like an awesome app, and the email idea is a great one too. My main issue is that I hate entering in my passcode, finding the app, launching it, etc. With the email suggestion, I could get around that, though I can see it being hard to add the correct hashtags and such to the subject to get it to do what I want. Are you aware with Drafts.app if you can interact with it in the same way as Siri, in that you need not even unlock the phone? IFTTT is so close to working, it works 40% of the time, to get stuff from Reminders and other lists into evernote, but there is that 80% of the time if doesn't, and support with this is non existant.
  13. I had not used Skitch in so long that I had to update it. When I did, it asked me to supply it with my Evernote Login and Password. I did so. Skitch seems integrated with Evernote in a strong way now. I do not want this. I would like skitch to stand on it's own. First, It created a skitch notebook automatically. I thought this was due to the preferences in Skitch being set to do so, so I changed the location to my Inbox, but the Skitch notebook is still created. Then I thought, Ok, I will set it to the trash, but trash does not show up in the list of items I can select in Skitch. I was poking around in the Library on Mac OS X in Application Support, and it seems Skitch, or Evernote, it is hard to tell where the line is drawn in what is shared, but I found a directory that had aliases, many of which were broken, that pointed to Documents, Downloads, Pictures, Chats, all and a few more. I deleted all the arises, and left the non alias folders. This is of concern, I put stuff in my Downloads folder that I do not want backed up, Downloads is excluded from any backups, it is a junk drawer for me that I feel safe that if anything in it exists, it will not be backed up, I know I can select all and delete, and there will be no trace of those files on my computer. Now I don't believe that to be the case. I know Time Machine is going to follow that alias. I am lucky I did not rm ( delete ) all the files in Pictures in the terminal. First I did a `file` on the Pictures folder and saw it was just an alias. Had I deleted those, I was actually `cd`'d into the real Pictures folder, which in the terminal is not something obvious right away. How do I get Skitch to stop making a Skitch Notebook in Evernote, and how do I use skitch without it being a part of Evernote?
  14. No problem, thanks. Ill look around for something that just does an import of plain text, that will get me started. Getting started in AppleScript is always a pain for me for some reason. I wish there was some sort of bridge from their API to curl or a more REST driven API, I think I could make EN do anything under those cases. I have looked at the API, and it is a bit hairy, but not too bad. Maybe I can pin down this "malformed input" error that Zapier and IFTTT seem to get stuck on.
  15. This can be done using AppleScript, JXA, or Keyboard Maestro , at least with the Outlook 2011 or Mac Mail clients. Can't say for sure about using a GMail web client, since I have setup Outlook to pull all of my GMail. Gmail is not an issue, I can make an IMAP connection through curl or any number of tools that I can then hook up with AppleScript. Can you share with me an AppleScript that will take raw text as input, ( there is something wrong with the line endings, I am losing them, I think I willl have to replace \r to \r\n or \n tu \r\n. Outside of that, if yo have something where I can drop a text file on it, it will import to EN with predefined tags, I would make a ton of cool things. I don't need to poll EN for any data ahead of time, so this should be a simple one. Thx!
  16. And where in Thunderbird are you altering the subject when it meets your filter criteria? No place. "When you forward an email into Evernote, auto-filing will look for similar notes inside your account and apply the same notebook and tags." https://evernote.com/contact/support/kb/#!/article/23480523 It works 80-90% This is an automated rule in gmail, if it is from a sender, an the subject is a certain way, of which I get 3 of these emails a week, I don't want to manually forward them. Plus, if you use the forward feature in the prefs of gmail, it does a redirect not a forward, so the emails look nicer. The trouble is, that I don't want to have to re-file them in evernote, I would like them to come in and go where they are supposed to. Evernote really needs a rules system where we can filter inbound notes and tell them where to go and what to do to them automatically.
  17. And where in Thunderbird are you altering the subject when it meets your filter criteria?
  18. Thanks, but how do you alter the subject of an email that is part of a automatic rule in gmail? Or any email client for that matter? I have a rule in gmail that says if from x and subject is y, forward the message to Evernote, but it just ends up in my inbox. Do I really have to look at a 3rd party tool like Zapier or IFTTT to pull this off?
  19. I also just found this: The evernote docs need updating, or there is a secret I am unaware of. I don't think this is just gmail, I don't know of any email clients that allow a find/filter/subject change. But evernote wrote that, so at some point, someone did it, any idea how? What are my other options? Is there a filtering tool in Evernote, where you can have it take incoming messages that match criteria, and perform actions, like in gmail, only these would be, add tags, move to notebook, etc.
  20. The following question is a general question, and does not apply to the Mac only version, though that is what I am using. What forums would the below post best be posted in? According to the Evernote docs: I set up a filter in gmail, it finds messages from a sender that has a identical subject that is sent out every month. All works well on the gmail side, emails are located, tagged, filed, and then forwarded. However, once they hit evernote, they just go to my default notebook. I don't want to turn on smart filtering, I don't trust myself to have stuff coming in and put in places that I have to check to make sure it came in. If evernote ever glitches, I would never know I missed the message. Where is it in gmail that I can edit the subject to add in at symbols and hashtags?
  21. I guess I would have to answer with, then what is the point of the sidebar that shows the notebooks? If there are so many other locations in which you can quickly glean that data, why do you even need the sidebar? Marketplace stuff? I think that most users of Mac apps are used to clicking on folders to activate that folder. If I want to drag a note into a sidebar notebook, it even highlights the folder that I am doing so in, which I don't believe it used to do, as I seem to remember being very careful not to drop a batch into the wrong folder. Now for batches I use a bulk move instead, but drag and drop would be nice. Though I wonder where they would go when the blue line outlines the entire sidebar rectangle. It's not without precedent... That looks like an older version, maybe a PC version, maybe web, hopefully a beta to soon come out , who knows, but it looks to me like there was a real attention to cramming in as much stuff into the app as possible, but in such a clean way. Do you not understand what it is I am requesting, or do you not understand why it is that it would/could be valuable to add it in or bring it back? Sorry, I am pretty new, and don't know the history of the app and it's various UI design changes. I just googled and searched the forums, found a post you and I had back and forth, in which you stated > "Honestly, it would be better UI, IMO, if the Notebook name was more pronounced, like bold and a larger font." I agree with that too, it's such a small thing, and I am looking at about 5 tabs right now, that are asking directly or indirectly amidst other questions about the same thing, and there are a few me too's as well. Oh, and the main issue, is yes, there are multiple places it shows you what notebook you are in, but many have nested notebooks, so a top level, a few sub levels, another top level, all you get to see is the sub level that you are in. At quick glance to the left, if it was bold, I could look up, and see the parent folder, THAT to me is valuable. I have resorted to pre-rending the parent notebook name to the sub notebook, but that is not working well. I am trying my best to work around it, but it is just a huge shift from how any other app that has a 3 panel layout like this works.
  22. Hey JM, I get what you are saying, I really do. See the blue line around the selected note in your screenshot? Imagine if that was not there and instead, the answer was, well, it is in the notes subject, what do you need to know what note you are selected on? That is how my brain is seeing the notion of selected notebooks. If it is important enough to mark that you are on all notes, then it would seem important enough to mark that you are on a subset of those notes. I understand this excludes search results, tag search group results, and everything in-between. But I can't help but keeping to come back to email clients, all of which offer the support of a selected folder, and have the same folder, small preview, larger preview layout possibilities, most even have top -bottom pane and others just like EN. Then you get keyboard navigation, so I can be on a notebook and arrow around to open and close folders, and move up and down to move from one to the other. The main issue is the visual indicator. I would also like to see the trash moved out of the notebooks area, it seems strange in that location, and is tough to get to at times. Most of the sidebar options seem better suited to menubar customizations to me, where we have the cute little radar antennae ting and the sync icon, and the new note, we could have the show all notes, the notebooks, the market, all that stuff, we could then turn on and off at will, full user customizability in that regard. Being able to turn off recent notebooks everywhere, or better, on a per area basis would be really nice as well.
  23. Pre-post note to users: I have seen multiple posts that lean on the below ideas and notions, please, if you agree, back it up with a reply, or a suggestion, or if you disagree, lets come to a consensus and get that into over to the devs. Thanks. I was told it was a design decision to not highlight the note book you currently are on. Things are all over the board now. In the web version, the notebooks list doesn't stay around long enough to even matter, but the note you are selected on, you won't know it unless you leave your mouse over it. So now, no way to know which note you have selected in the web view. And a quick one on the web version, you have so much room, I know the web moved a bit towards large spacing, but also note that tends to appear most on one page landings, not full blown apps. The Mac app, since I don't know how the Windows app works, now has a great background around the notebook listing. I heard the reasons why this decision was made, and it makes sense, but when you compare those decisions to how any panel based app works, mail.app, gmail, 1Password, there are so many, and all of them let you know what category you are selected in. Sure, you may be in a "smart folder" and the last place you were in was some other non smart folder, so what do you do? I would do what they all do, deselect the last selection. From every app I just looked at, in the case of EN, it looks like it would be something like this: if current notebook listed in the header of the second column in three pane view is equal to the last notebook clicked on, highlight that notebook, otherwise, don't highlight anything. You highlight notes and notebooks, so if I am in "All Notes", it lights up in blue. One may argue that when I click on a note it should then highlight the notebook. No, I disagree, it does not meet the above mentioned condition. I am in ALL NOTES, not a specific notebook. This is exactly how 1Password and mail.app deal with this. As it is now, if I could fully turn off the notebooks on the left, which seems stuck because the "ALL NOTES" header is there, I would, then I would move from notebook to notebook via the header menu in the notes hitlist. But that is not at all what I want, I have room on screen, at least I would, after a few small UI updates I want to suggest later. How can I remove the "Notes" header, I never use it, but it is greyed out as an option to turn off in the sidebar. Seeing ALL notes, not something I will ever really need to do, and if I do, I am more than happy to drill around for it. The sidebar's "NoteBooks" header, I don't need it, does anyone? It's pretty implied what is below, and if you have them turned off, you probably want that header off too. Notes are getting put in the wrong place, because I don't know where I am, and I am used to looking left, for a "box" or something that tells me where I am. When in snippet view, does the title there do filtering, or moving? And the "Recent Notebooks", that seems to have popped in that list too. I am assuming that is to file notes, there is a menu to "move to ... again", if that had a keyboard command, that is the most widely used I would imagine, the others, rarely am I going to go down that rabbit hole to the second, third, or fourth recently used ones, if I do, it will be for mass cleaning and organizing, not something I need front and center. Not saying to remove much, but feel free to put it in a menu, give it a keyboard command, and keep the clutter down.
  24. In my mind, there are probably four so so things that scare EN users a bit, and should be put on the top of the "fix it" list. First, encryption along with a lock screen on mobile apps. Second, data integrity, especially with a very routine downtime window, it seems likely for corruption if you are in the middle of the connection getting dropped. Can't EN have a staging area that (atomic) until the remote end says so, that note is not synced, and will remain in staging? If the remote database doesn't hear back from the client, delete the record, the next time EN can, it will sync. This worries me more for those on the go, you should be able to close your laptop at pretty much any time without worry. I don't worry about DropBox or my password manager, or any app for that matter, and they all cloud sync, I just close the lid and know it will deal with it on it's own. It may sometimes create a "conflict" file, but unless I dig and look for those, I would never know they even existed as each app has been made to clean up after itself and make sure you have no data loss of corruption. Is this an issue that is being looked at, or is this just how things are? Having a notice when you quit the app that it is still syncing is strange to me, why not pass that off to the background app, or a background app dedicated to syncing, so no matter what state the app is in, it will still sync, EN need not even be open? Third would be no ability to a true backup. I suppose a file system level backup is that, but to date, no one will tell me what files are for what and where they go let alone why. I could never reliably put the pieces back together. Right now you can export to a ENEX format, which has both tags and dates in it, the dates appear to be in Zulu time, which while I prefer epoch based times, I think from what I understand about time zones, Z time is a perfectly acceptable format that can be transposed from one to another easily. Plenty of libraries usually built in to help. The tags also seem to be in order, or perhaps reverse order, either way, there is an order to them. Oddly, on reimport, your tags are out of order, notebook data is not saved, so you have to export one at a time, and you lose the two time stamps. The issue of having to export each notebook one at a time is silly to me. That could be solved in a sort of hack way by upon selecting "backup" the app iterates over each notebook, adds a tag of the note book name plus a UID of some form, and that could be used to bring it back in correctly, then delete all tags that contain the UID. The rest is on the import side, get the importer to recognize the dates, get the importer to either reverse the tag list, or export it correctly to begin with. Even toss in an XML element of the notebook name and don't worry about iterating over the notebooks. I would further remove the option to toggle on and off the inclusion and exclusion of tags in the "import" and "export" menus, which would become "backup" and "restore". I can see no reason for them to not be always on, and thats less code to manage, which is always good, accidentally forgetting to toggle it on if it is not by default, will cause you trouble. A backup should mean that you can take your one true file to any machine, install EN, go to restore from backup, and be up and running. That is what a backup is to me. You should match some md5 hash check to make sure the backup and restore are identical. Evernote is moving into integration with services that auto download banking data, it seems EN really wants all our data in their app, which is just how I wanted it. However, I don't feel save putting that data up there unencrypted. So I thought, ok, I will just use a local notebook. For reasons I don't understand, local notebooks seem frowned upon. You can't convert a local notebook to an online one and vice versa, but certainly can manually in a few steps. Why the trepidation on local notebooks? Is it because there is higher than idea chance of data loss or corruption and using the cloud as a way to put your data back is their best option right now, something that of course would not work with local notebooks?
  25. Hello, I am often in the habit of date and time stamping everything I do. Especially since an import of an exported EN file will lose the date created and modified. It would be cool if a dev could explain why that is, but I will open a new thread as I have some specific questions on that. Right now, I have a macro I made that I type "./date" anywhere and 08.23.2015 — 06:03:20 PM -0700 is added right there on the spot. I can change that format to whatever I want, it is just a small shell script triggered by Keyboard Maestro. However, there is also a date injection tool built into EN, though you can't change the format, and I like to make sure people looking at a glance can tell if it is in a "US" format or some other format. For searching on a date string, assuming you have lost the date created and modified data native to the note, what is the ideal date format to hand key into a note with regard to searching it out at a later time? Also, is there a simple way to search for all notes that match my current date format, so I can make a small script that will on selection, modify them to the more ideal format that I hope someone will suggest? Thanks
