Evernote is crashing at start up

Thanks for the advise. Doesn't work. The helper icon appears in the menu bar although it's not checked in the preferences?!? Can't close it, even when evernote is not running. The second the cursor moves over the helper icon the coloured wheel appears. I'm on OSX 10.9.5. as well -

Have a similar prob. Whenever I launch Evernote the coloured wheel appears and nothing happens. Have to force quit. Even re-installing app doesn't help. Any advise? Thanks in advance!
