  1. They are local notebooks so they don't get synched to the cloud, and they didn't work from Word which I regard as the yardstick. But for the 'application' that relies on links to and from other applications I've decided to use local html pages rather than EN notes. The EN note export feature does pretty good job with the notebook in question. The other applications are open source so if push comes… . It's not the first time I've have the rug pulled from under me when I've used software - creatively.
  2. In the Legacy version - "evernote:///view.blah-blah" - links only work from within Evernote, but not from eternal applications. After I backup my notebooks to HTML I will try doing a system restore back to Thursday.
  3. I tried the installer I had - it installed ok, but it would not let me 'login' because it didn't have an internet connection 😒 That's the sort of fragility I've struck before. So, I downloaded and installed the 'legacy' version. Pleased to report that it has given me access to my data. Now at least I can look for an alternative that can read exported data. Local notebook support is the main reason I have stuck with Evernote. At one stage I was considering a switch to OneNote, but then MS did the same thing, forced everything into it's cloud. The main reasons I have a BASIC a
  4. Thanks When it comes to installing/reinstalling/uninstalling I've found Evernote to be rather fragile. I do have have my local notebooks backed up, locally and to a commercial FTP server. The reason I want to keep local notebooks is that I have other applications that have evernote:\\ links embedded in their databases and vice-versa. Problem these days is that every vendor want to have everything confined to their narrow focus walled garden. I am going wait to see if any Evernote for Windows users respond
  5. How can I get back to Evernote version 6.5.4.4720 - I have the installer. I wouldn't be surprised if the the lack of any meaningful warning that everything must be moved onto your servers after installing this new version may be regarded as unconscionable conduct under consumer protection laws in some jurisdictions. You have effectively STOLEN years of my work. If I had known this was coming I would have found an alternative application. To say I'm disgusted is a gross understatement.
  6. @jefito - that link is mainly IOS/Android apps. I actually wanted something for MacOS - yes I know I'm in the Windows forum. Yeah I twigged it was a Premium feature - it was staring me in the face  For the 'application' in question there are other reasons to think of Evernote apart from PDF annotating. But I'm not sure that the person who has the 'problem' will be willing to pay annual subscription for Premium. It's a pity there's not a Premium Local for a one off price (e.g. $50) - I can get a couple of 4Tb drives for the price of a years Premium. Thanks RP
  7. I just tested PDF Annotations in Free and it says I can only annotate 10 PDFs. What do I need to have unlimited use of this feature? Do I need Premium or is it an add-on of some sort? tia RP
  8. I went this route. It allowed me to some tidying up along the way. And it it was far less fiddlesome than I anticipated - a snap really. Thanks all
  9. Thanks all, looks like I have the right idea I'll try a couple of different sequences of - install, connect, relocate data (don't want it on my SSD), replace what's there with backup.
  10. I have access to the server located databases. But I repeat "most of my notebooks are local." The local notebooks are in whoever.exb, Attachments etc. I am not seeing them. I see the Tags but not the Notes. The path D:\Application Data\Evernote is the same on both the old and new systems RP
  11. I'm building myself a new computer (old one is playing up) - most of my notebooks are local, I've moved the data and configured local data to refer to that location, but I'm not seeing and local databases
  12. I like the dark side bar, but why stop there, make the menu and toolbar similarly dark. And allow users to set different colours for the index and content panels depending which one has keyboard focus - e.g. #ADD8E6 if panel has keyboard focus, otherwise #CCCCFF. They should tone quite well with the midnight blue sidebar.
  13. Remove the bodgy pinned icon from the taskbar with right click->Unpin Start Evernote from a Win+S search Right click the Elephant that just appeared on the taskbar and pin to the taskbar When you exit EN, the Elephant you just pinned to the taskbar should still be there. @gazumped - tip: if you pin your most often used programs to the taskbar you can start them with WinKey+1, WinKey+2 etc. Also WinKey+T will give focus to the first item in the taskbar, you can then traverse the items with arrow keys (up arrow wraps to last), press Enter to run the program, press MenuKey
  14. Notebooks are a unit of storage - if I delete an EN notebook, then it and all the notes in it are deleted. If I delete all the notes in a Notebook I'm left with an empty notebook. Much like a directory/folder in a file system. Tags are a means of reference - if I delete a tag no notes are deleted, if I delete all the notes that reference a tag the tag is deleted, if I remove all the references to a tag the tag is deleted. Most tagging schemes are likewise ephemeral - i.e. they are created when they're first used and they're deleted when they're no longer used. It's that characteristic
  15. [Solved] - as a long shot I ran an sfc \scannow, When the links are pasted in HTML documents they are pasted as Hyperlinks - i.e. <href="blah" Title></a>. I assumed that's what EN Copy Note Link put in the clipboard. But it doesn't do that, it just puts the URI in the clipboard. It's only if its pasted into something 'HTML', such as Evernote itself, or a blog post, that the raw URI gets encapsulated in an HTML <a href...> tag. And the fact that an sfc \scannow fixed my problem means that Windows is somehow involved in the encapsulation process. Everything into w
  16. I was hoping someone might advise me on how to revert to an earlier version. So what happened to the pivot to Asia. It's not only Down Under that's enjoying Monday morn, also Japan, China, Indonesia, India etc etc - i.e. about half the worlds population!
  17. My understanding is that ctrl/click is about getting a local link for a note in an Online notebook (ie one that's synchronised to the Web). Most but not all of the notes for which I want a link are in a local notebooks. But yes, I did try it. All I get in the clipboard is the URI whether its local or online i.e. evernote:///blah.... or h t t p s://www evernote.com/blah.... respectively. In previous versions I got <a href="evernote:///blah...." Note Title></a> for local links, and <a href="h t t p s://www evernote.com/blah..." Note Title></a> for online links.
  18. Thanks AndreasM. EN and other experts - my earlier post (above) that AndreasM quoted, has absolutely NOTHING whatsoever to do with tags, notebooks, folders or shortcuts etc The Copy Link Note feature has been crippled to the point that its ^%$#*! useless. Despite being old, I am pretty good at coping with change, the various cosmetic changes in this release didn't bother me after an hour or two. I like Win 10 better than Win 7, I much prefer MS Office Ribbons to the chaotic button bars and menus they replaced . But I am not good at coping with features being shipped that
  19. Windows 10, Evernote 6.0.6.1769 Previously the Copy Note Link context menu item copied the note title and uri as - <a href="blah blah" style="color:#69aa35">Title</a> - into the clipboard, viz: <a href="evernote:///view/12032092/s105/00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000/9a96e1c8-de9c-44bf-9841-b60e9ee40830-562/" style="color:#69aa35">CRASH 2: Radical Reality is the only thing that can save us now</a> Now all I get is the uri evernote:///view/12032092/s105/00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000/9a96e1c8-de9c-44bf-9841-b60e9ee40830-562/ I use EN Note link
  20. Thanks - hadn't tried that one, it worked. Tried pinning it from - start menu->all apps, the .exe, and the shortcut the install ALWAYS puts on my desktop {sigh} We'll see what happens at next update. How come lesser software, in terms of usage and cost, can get these little things right. RP
  21. Please correct the implementation of how the Evernote icon behaves when its pinned to the Windows 10 taskbar - see image for details. Note how Firefox, xplorer2, Sigil and File Explorer do not create transient icons, i.e. they conform to the Taskbar buttons:->Always combine, hide labels setting. Thank you - RP
  22. For me at least the regression errors with tables have been fixed in latest release - pity it took six months to fix it.
  23. I wouldn't mind this - but it would need work on Windows client as I would only use it on local note books
  24. Just another report to inform Evernote Inc that you have broken the Tables feature - try some of this ==>> http://bit.ly/1GgBuxt
  25. To address the issue of what to do about searches across multiple notebooks which could have different sort orders. Put the search results into a virtual notebook which would have have its own sort order - with a default to date. Not sure how this would fit with saved searches but no doubt it would probably need to rp
