    What's the deal?

I'm on a mac, I'm often creating new folders or stacks or thinking I lost something, because I think something does not exist based on a search, but sometimes I see it is there as a stack with a name exactly as I entered it in the main search field on top of sidebar or in find notebooks...

Two sensible places to look! Stacks do show up using switch to. Ctrl+Q on Windows but on Mac I seem to remember it is something completely different. Search for switch to in the keyboards shortcuts list (Help 🢂 Keyboard shortcuts)

If you want to add to the search then right arrow then space. Just as you would in probably every other application you have installed on your computer right now

Which is the same number of key strokes as my suggestion of end then space.

I don't normally add to a search term in other programs. The building up of searches using the advanced search syntax in EN is one of its strengths. It's difficult to incorporate all three scenarios we have discussed without somebody having to hit some extra keys. Currently you are doing the extra and I'm not - I'm sure if it was the other way around I would feel the same!

  3. How are you sharing the notes? There are two methods.

    1. Share a notebook. Find the notebook in the notebooks pop out. Use the three dots menu and choose "share notebook". That will list the people who already have access.

    2. Share individual notes. You can find all notes that have been shared by typing sharedate:* into the search. This doesn't include notes shared using method 1. You can then click the green "people icon" at the top of the note to find who you have shared the note with.

This one is excruciating for me, too. It's not that the old search term should be deleted, it's that the old search term should be highlighted. Want to repeat the search? Just hit enter. Want to delete the search and replace it with a new search term? Just start typing and your keystrokes replace the previously highlighted search term. This is how it works in Spotlight, Finder, Safari, Notes, Chrome, Firefox, Pages, Numbers, Word, Excel, and on and on and on. Just about every application respects this convention except Evernote v10. It's such a small change but irritatingly inconsistent with other applications and it would be so easy to fix.

You haven't actually covered the scenario, which I personally use most, of adding to the search. In your proposal you would probably have to type {end} and then {space}. Currently, to highlight the search term so that you can type in a new search, you need to type {shift}+{Home}. So I guess EN need to decide which use needs an extra keystroke or two.

As a general point deleting or overwriting  the search term is an extremely unreliable way of deleting the search, as filters will often still be in place. A much better way is to go to Home first and then search. On windows that's alt+ctrl+1 followed by alt+ctrl+F

  5. Does anybody know whether it is possible to hide the email address that appears under my user name at the top of the screen on the desktop and web versions. This is a fairly recent introduction.

    image.png.9d9665c5ee2ee74caa923f294e5a6a22.png

I take a lot of screen shots and it is a pain to have to blank out the address. Also I use the web version in public places, so don't really want my email address on display.

What possible use is having the email address displayed there anyway?

Any way to do this in V10?

I think I understand what you want. I don't think there is a way of finding a tag within the tag structure. If you use the search in the main tag popout it will certainly find the tag but you can't then see the entire tag structure with that tag highlighted.

No biggie if all your desired notes are in that tag, but if you often have related notes in sub-tags, you are out of luck.

That can be done by using the drop down menu within the blue tag lozenge. It will give you a list of sub tags (for reference) and the ability to include the sub tags in your search (using OR logic).

     main_tag OR sub_tag1 OR sub_tag2 etc

    image.png.c6b8e401d077a88134c3ddbeb53ebe06.png

If you wanted to you could then exclude the main tag from the search by typing (in my example screenshot)

    -tag:ggplot

It looks a bit weird because the filter and the search are saying exactly opposite things, but what you can't see is that "include sub-tags" has been selected.

  7. I hope this is thought through properly and we don't loose the option to have these files as attachments if we want to.

For the record attaching html and txt files to a note in the Legacy version resulted in the contents being imported into the body of the note, so it's only partially a new feature.

If you want to see the link as text, you have to select the "evernote:///view/..." link, then from the "More options" select from the "View link as" feature, even though this is set as "text", you have to chose "Title", and then repeat that process to set it to display the link as "text"

You are right, but it is still only displaying the name of the note not the name of the header. This might be OK in some circumstances but I think it should display the text of the header (like the TOC does) or possibly the name of the note and the header.

It depends how people end up using the links. I think a link in a different note that contains the name of the note and the name of the section it is going to take you to, would be a really nice feature. At the moment an anchor link copied to another notes simply behaves the same as a normal link - it takes you to the note but doesn't scroll down to the correct section.

So my concluson is that the TOC works (provided you unfold everything first) but I'm strugling to see the benefit of the anchor link feature, although I hope this is still work in progress.

How long does it normally take to start Evernote 10.85.4 with the Files functionality?

    Just tried.

If EN is open it took 6 seconds to open the file section (17,852 files)

If EN was actually closed when the files section was open it took 13 secs to open EN and re-load the files section. I have "Resume where I left off" as my opening EN preference.

  10. I'm obviously delighted that this will be useful for some people. Sadly many of my attachments are clipped from the web and their names are often not very helpful.

For me personally the whole point of having attachments in EN is to be able to add other information which either adds context or makes the file easier to find. This might be as simple as making the title of the note the actual name of a report rather than the meaningless title of the pdf.  Also the ability to add numerous attachments, with explanation, as part of a bigger story.  If all I wanted was a list of files then there are lots of options which don't use EN.

  11. I completely agree. It is a weird view which has been in V10 since the very beginning.  One thing that might help is that  if you right click on the shortcut (Windows) you get the option to open in a new window which leaves the existing view unchanged. You can also open in a new window by double clicking but that gives you the "no notelist" version of the note as well. I assume you can do something similar on Mac.

Every. Single. Time. All they had to do was make it Alt+/. Or ^. Or |.

Yep, even when you type the ctrl+/ shortcut to open the keyboard shortcuts list. This is doubly annoying because the insertion point is no longer automatically placed in the keyboard shortcut search so you have to click in the search bar twice before you type in your search.

For the record / does not invoke the menu when typed in a code block - so there is somebody in EN actually thinking for at least some of the time.
