What does "group notes together" do?

So this is a group by date function. we already have sort by date created or date updated... hmmm.. I don't understand the point of this. thanks for the explanation -
I don't understand this function. I click it and nothing seems to happen. It's listed with the sort function.

is this intentional? did they effectively remove the sorting options? I'm not longer able to prioritize notes like I used too and it rendered one of the biggest components of evernote inert. -
It seems that the feature to group reminders by group doesn't seem to exist anymore although the option to "group notes" is there. Bug or removal of feature?
