So as well as wanting Evernote to reinvent Google Maps you want global weather reports?

With integration apps like IFTTT, Zapier and CloudHQ (and many others) around you should already be able to build whatever blend of data summary you need to add to Evernote.

No reinvention required. Take a look at most the journaling apps (DayOne for example) they manage to use the inbuilt Google/Apple maps of devices  to display. Something like that, a simple connector, which is what Atlas did previously.

Again, most the journaling apps use the gps to log a weather stamp. The automation solutions, which you suggest, I have tried but do - don’t work so well if you move around quite a bit.

Don’t think either suggestions are too outlandish and totally reasonable to suggest.

Not quite the perfect solution to missing Atlas, or weather meta data - but you can use the IFTTT service to generate a note each day with the weather forecast.  It won't "follow you" if you're travelling - but it does work for where you've got it set for.   I do this with a daily journal note that gets sent to my Evernote account each day - with built out spots that I'm always filling in (how much coffee I drank today, how much water, what did I eat, etc) - and the note heading always gets the weather forecast.

Might not be what you want or need - but it's an idea in case you haven't thought of it before.

But ultimately, yes, it would be nice to have the atlas feature again!

Yes that is a neat trick, I have also tried that too! But as you say, it only good if you are in the same place all the time. Thanks for the reply! 👍

My scenario is for a research project on diseased trees 🌲.(Climate change related)

I wish to log each observation - photo, brief notes. It’s GPS stamped, weather stamped. With Atlas visuals it becomes a usable database. Collaborative too.

This is something Evernote should be really useful for. Currently looking at Airtable or similar software - shouldn’t have to!

  3. @gazumped there is hoping they bring it back.

Think there should be a map/atlas feature and local weather should be added as metadata to a note.

EN was conceived as “The Ultimate Digital Memory” and location, geography are things that help that. Basic memory science - location is important.

    Hopefully their devs read this........

  4. There are several apps around with Evernote integrations, set a reminder & they appear in the task manager, without using TaskClone, Zapier or Intermediary work arounds. Or bothersome cut & paste of links. Remember The Milk is one, but I am a big fan of Nozbe - their free 5 project offering Is often more than enough. I keep all my Planning & Info  in Evernote - then Actions/Tasks in Nozbe & can keep everything together then. Nozbe has a direct EN attachment function and the ability to sync/modify EN reminders.

I like the idea of the two way sync.  Filterize also solves the recurring task issue.

In regards to task management, can you explain what Nozbe is providing you that can't be produced in Evernote

Nozbe allows the use of other file apps ie dropbox/gdrive/onedrive so acts like a "glue" for all your stuff.

Slicker use of contexts, visualisation of calendar, and further task notes. You can also share projects with each others all in one place.

Sure there is overlap in some areas, but I think you will gain great benefit from a free Nozbe account - if you use reminders in Evernote a huge amount; martial them there with more ease and precision.

Similar with Nozbe. In general key is to have a routine. You MUST review the list on scheduled basis. Reminder can help you not miss a critical due date, but it's context in most software is not to be a constant reminder,  it's a one time milestone.  What you can have is a repeating task to review the list, which is the primary purpose of Nozbe for me, repeating tasks for any reason.   Others can likely do this as well, but it was first one I came across with direct integration to EN.  Reminders in EN become tasks in Nozbe. Changing dates/completing updates both ways. Putting off undesirables is something I struggle with as well, eventually you just need to suck it up or matters typically just worsen.

    Great another Nozbe user!

It is the only app I have found after searching high and low that allows total EN integration (both ways).

I have a lot of save searches in Evernote, mainly to help find stuff but my Tasks and Calendar are all managed in Nozbe

I do keep some notes in Nozbe for quick reference but ultimately everything is tied back to Evernote.

Have tried, TaskClone, Remember the Milk or the "Copy the Link Technique" into ToDoist or Things 3. Cost me quite a lot testing stuff out but come to the conclusion that this integration if you are a die hard Evernote Fan is the best way.

I do pay for a full Nozbe account, but tbh the Free 5 project variety is more than enough for most. You can adjust your schedule in Nozbe, and this reflects in the reminders back in Evernote.

I also use a free Filterize account that creates a constantly updating table of contents of all my tasks (with a certain search criteria) - which helps with long term planning etc.

    I use Date Stamp (Shift + Command + D) or Time Stamp (Option + Shift + Command + D)
on my iPad Pro (external keypad).  It's a standard for Mac and IOS

There seems to be little interest in an on screen button; but never say never.

Not all of are using the iOS app with a keyboard. I am often on my phone

    - I have repeatedly suggested a ribbon above the keyboard with all of these input short cuts. Other apps aplenty do this; why the lag in Evernote ?

    Moved to the feedback forum

btw  If you paste the link into another note, the classic link is pasted.  If you sync, then long press on the link, you are presented with a menu to copy the classic link

Thanks DTLow, yeah I had tried that - just extra steps.

Despite having loads of iGadgets, my weapon of choice atm is an iPod Touch. Just running EN and Things. Fewer  disruptions when I go about my day..... and often outside WiFi coverage.

Hence the Things ->EN connected Classic link without needing the web at times.

Think there are some work arounds using Launchpad.

Thanks for moving it to Feedback/requests.....

  9. Perhaps in the web back-end users could add a directory of templates, both personal and default Evernote created.

There should be a icon shortcut  in compose note (in all. Erosions Mac, Win, IOS etc) which pops down this list as a prepoplated options list of templates to select.

eg week planner, travel checklist, gym routine checklist, meeting notes pro forma and so on.
