  1. Thank you, but since we used to have the functionality, and they have removed it, chances are nil that they'll put it back. What a shame.
  2. So, one CAN change where the helper app saves new notes - you can change the location to any synced notebook. The list will not include any local notebooks. That's a big, irritating change.
  3. Well, until this version, I could specify where this helper app saved the notes. Is there NO WAY to change that? Why would they alter the app's behavior? Don't most people use the helper app to gather info for a note? This seems less than optimal for anyone's use of EN. Yes, I know I can drag the stuff in, or I could go to the main app and just make a note there. But seriously...
  4. I've used EN for years. I'd like to continue to use it the way I've always used it. Is there some way to make the mini-menu write to a different notebook? I'll keep the default as an empty notebook, as I have for many versions in the past. I just want MY notes to go elsewhere. Glad for others to sync, I don't need it to.
  5. I don't synchronize anything at all. I've used Evernote since it was a standalone db which one could actually fill up and need to start over. Can't remember how many years that's been. Whatever the elephant is called on the Mac menu bar, that lets you begin a note from clips, pictures and text will always go to the default notebook, at least that's my experience. I want it to always go to a local notebook. Or turn off syncing entirely.
  6. I updated to EN 7.9 (mostly by mistake) and am still trying to get back where I was previously. I've used EN for an eternity, and still want to keep all of my notes local to my computer, backing them up via Time Machine, as always. However, now my standard notebook, which is local, is no longer the default in EN, and I see no way to make it so. If I right-click on the local notebook in the notebook list I get only "Delete Notebook" as an option, and under "Preferences" the default lists contains only the single non-local empty notebook I had to keep around. I would use this other notebook if there was any way to turn off syncing on it. Any hints gratefully accepted.
  7. Adding another voice to the same issue. As of this weekend, on 6.2.1 and Mac El Cap, I am also now asked each time I begin Evernote to chose a level. New and extremely annoying. Help, please!
  8. This is a brand-new problem for me, and one I don't understand. I try to never sync. Ever. I have used EN for a decade, keeping everything local (as I wish to) and backed up via timemachine. I don't need to share my notes across platforms, just need a local repository for all the things I want to keep, which EN has always done well. So somehow, I seem to have synced part of a months' worth of notes to the webversion, and must have hit this darned limit. I don't want to have anything stored in the cloud. Can I delete all my notes on the web, and regain this "space," or will that remove the actual notes on my desktop version? Or is EN only concerned with what goes thru their upload process (the 60MB) and not the actual storage space used on their servers? At least now one can remove the sync button from the toolbar, which will make it easier to keep this from happening by mistake in the future. Any help/advice/solutions very much appreciated.
  9. Since this topic has been resurrected, I'll add my voice for colors as well. I am still amazed that more apps don't allow you to use color, one of the easiest ways for humans to differentiate information. And now, with the crazy Yosemite color scheme, it would be even more valuable. EN folks, please look at doing this. Give me one good reason to hang around... after almost a decade of use.
  10. I am adding my voice to the chorus here - just upgraded to 6x and absolutely hate the new look. Regardless of what Apple has done with their generic scheme, EN chose the white/white/barely grey theme, and it's simply impossible to work in for any time. It strains the eyes, and I get a headache just looking at the side list of notes. Even Apple backtracked on an interface choice, when they had to let people turn off those awful zooming icons in a recent version of iOS. So, guys, time to give us an option here, before people start burfling!! PLEASE roll back this look, or add the ability to customize the colors. Even just 50% darker would be a (slight) improvement. Of course, the ability to change the toolbar, and get rid of sync and chat would be great, too, but that's another thread... HATE THE LOOK. After almost a decade with Evernote, I'm going to have to start looking elsewhere.
  11. I believe this has changed in 5.5 because it definitely didn't act like this previously. Wondering if others have found the same? It's an annoying matter of NOT making the search block selected once you X out a search term in the Evernote window. This is what I have found to happen: 1) Enter a search term in the block 2) Select the "X" to remove the search 3) The search block is NOT selected, i.e. if you start typing, all you get is the thud (on Mac) 4) You have to select the darned block and then begin typing your next search term. Previously I am certain (almost) that once you X'ed out the search, it would default your cursor to the search block. I mean, why wouldn't it? You don't have a note selected yet, because you just X'ed the search block. If you wanted a note, you would have selected the note. This strikes me as a bug, and I was wondering if other people have seen the behavior as well. Again, this is on Mac. Thanks.
  12. Same long-term problem for me. I don't think I'll make the above changes (although very interesting!) I'd really like an in-app solution to this problem. Thanks for the post, it's nice to know I'm not alone.
  13. I'll resurrect this topic too, as I've just updated to 5.5 from 3.3 Mac and can't believe I've lost my customized toolbar. Yes, I'm sure there are key shortcuts, but frankly I don't use them much. That's why we have software which works in a variety of ways, I thought, so that different users could access it in different ways. Some people like menus, some like keys, some like toolbars? Works for everyone, at all different levels. So, now that I'm up to date, I've lost my "all notes" button, my "print" button, and have to live with the "sync" button where I never, ever want to see or touch it? Hmmm. Personally, I don't find that an improvement, and judging from many of the folks who beta'd ver 4 and 5 they didn't either. Really wish you wouldn't remove this kind of functionality. But thanks anyway.
  14. Had to try 3 different emails until I found one I (apparently) didn't already have an Evernote account under. Thanks, updated with no disaster. Way too much trouble with this in the past. Thanks agin.
