  1. BTW - I asked Evernote when filling my feature request. They responded saying that of course they do read the feature request forum.
  2. Very inventive ! But I'll keep stating: Evernote - this basic stuff shouldn't be this complicated. Just add drag-and-drop reordering and renaming to the edit tag menu. Or merge the tag and the edit tag menu.
  3. To make the "edit tag" menu more functional, following up on this feature request: Drag and drop of tags (wherever possible) - General Feature Requests - Evernote User Forum, also allow to rename tags within the edit tag menu. It is such a natural behaviour to right-click or slow-double-click on an item one sees and rename it. Currently, one has to switch to another menu for it.
  4. True - you can't rename a tag in the edit tag menu. New feature request: allow renaming tags in the edit tag menu. It's the most natural thing to right-click on something you see and rename it.
  5. Thanks. Yes I know that is possible with the tag menu. And when using the tag menu, there is another restriction: you can not see / edit all the tags applied to the current note at once if you have more tags than fit the short line at the bottom right under normal note view. In the edit tag menu, all tags applied to a note will be displayed, you can do partial search, rename, create new. What is missing is drag and drop of tags within the hierarchy to reorganise them. While you work with the tags of a note, you may realise a tag is in the wrong place, and it would be great to be able to organically reorganise it there and then without having to go to a different palce. Hence, again, I'm suggesting specifically to implement drag-and-drop of tags within the tag hierarchy of the edit tag menu. What worries me with work arounds in feature request posts is that EN, should they read this, may think the feature request is not necessary after all. Or that it gets unclear what the feature request really is.
  6. You can not search fort tags in the sidebar at all. Hence I'm using the edit tag menu which has search with partial search completion. And asking to have drag and drop of tags there, too. Because if you create a new tag there, it is always created at the top-level. There is no 'create tag nested under ...' drop down menu in in the edit tags menu.
  7. Just to be clear: I'm using the edit tag field because the add tag search field does not do partial search completion. Unless you exactly remember the spelling of the tag, you won't find it. The edit tag menu does do partial search completion. Thus being able to reorganise tags in the edit tag menu would be very useful to have.
  8. It seems not useful to have this discussion. If Evernote reads the forums, my feature request is what I described above.
  9. Dear @PinkElephant: my feature request is as I described it: the ability to drag and drop tags in the edit tags menu. Not something else. I appreaciate your effort, but please do not redescribe my requests. Or tell me why they are not needed. You have done this before. I must assume that Evernote has setup a forum with a category general feature requests for a reason. If they never look at it, it’s nonsensical to have it to begin with. So I’m hoping they do silently read. Thus in this post, what is important to me is that they can clearly understand my feature request.
  10. Dear @PinkElephant - we had this before: I'm very grateful for your fast and deep thoughts on helping finding work arounds. But again, I posted this as a feature request because I'm suggesting a feature. I'm not looking for a work around. My workflow is a different one then yours: I select one note after another and then consider what to do with it. And I don't want to have to go to the tagging area 'later' just for nesting, if the entire tag hierarchy is already in front of me when I create the tag, and all that would be needed is to be able to nest the tag AT THAT MOMENT. I'm writing this here so Evernote, should they read, can understand my use case. And the reasons for this feature request.
  11. I know I can. But this doesn't help. In the sidebar you have a different problem (that also could be solved!): you can not search for tags. To search for tags, you need the edit tags menu. Or the tag menu, but there then it is difficult to assign the new tag to specific notes. The specific point is that thus I'm frequently using the edit tags menu to assigns tags to a current note, creating new tags if there isn't an appropriate one already there. But then I need to leave this context to move the new tag to its proper place - even though the tag hierarchy is already displayed in the edit tag menu. So I have to leave the edit tag menu, and do for example what you suggest. Imagine doing that in a review process, when dealing with 100 notes that accumulated in the inbox over a while, and need sorting. It's fine the first few times, but at note 20 you go crazy.
  12. Feature requested: allow drag and drop of tags on other tags wherever possible in the GUI. Example: the edit tag window allows to create new tags. As new tags are always created at the highest level, if they actually are sub-tags in a hierarchy, they need to be sorted to their correct super-tags. In the edit tags window, one can see and open the tag hierarchy, but one can not just take a new tag and drag it to the right place. Why not ? That requires leaving this context and going to a different window. This is not only an unnecessary extra step: if multiple tags are created, it can be challenging to remembering what tags one made, and where they need to be sorted to. This GUI design is tedious and error prone. Solution: allow drag and drop of tags to rearrange them in every window where it is possible to implement it (especially the edit tags window).
  13. This is indeed confusing to me: this section of the forum is called 'general feature requests'. What is wrong with posting feature requests here ? What is its purpose if not that what it's name suggests ?
  14. I'm not understanding what the difficulty in this thread is. Evernote can make this possible, and I'm suggesting that they should do that. I've described the feature as a request in this threat, which is under 'general feature requests' and about improving note linking. It sounds to me that you find this inappropriate. Is that so ? Could you help me understand why ?
  15. Then my feature request is: create links by drag and drop from the search proposals. Usually, they contain the note I'm looking for, and this would be a straight forward way of linking notes without having todo any extra steps.
  16. On my side, that doesn't work for notes in the search list. By that I mean the results you see in the white box that pops up when you enter something in the search field at the left top. The moment I click on an item in that list - even if to drag it without releasing - it switches the currently active note to that item. What would be super helpful is what you describe: if you drag it into an open note, it inserts a link to itself in that note. On my side, you can't drag and drop from this search list into an open window.
  17. I did not mean to offend anyone. Nor do I want to argue. I'm trying to give feedback. This forum post is a 'general feature request'. I agree with the original post that 'Note linking' in Evernote should be improved. And wanted to give my voice to it: if drag-and-drop is now available, enable it not only from the side list, but also (especially in my case!) from the search list. I'm assuming that also Evernote developers reads this. Thus explaining why your solution doesn't work for me well yet. Great if it works well for you! ( I can not decide to use or drop EN, I'm locked-in unfortunately ... )
  18. Yes. But all that 'extra attention' just to bypass Evernote's continuing inconsistencies and inflexibilities always breaks the workflow. It should be EASY to do things like that, from which ever context you are currently working in, so you can think about the work I'm doing, not having to think about strategies do deal with Evernote to enable a simple thing like linking to a note. Why not at least allow drag and drop from the search result panel ? (If not implementing the nowadays common inline linking option via typing [[ ]] )
  19. Good: with todays update, one can drag & drop links from the side panel into the editor. Improvement: allows drag and drop from the search result list into the current note in the editor. Currently, if you click on an item of the search results, it always takes you to that note. If the note could be dragged and dropper into the currently open note would be a huge step.
  20. Does that make a difference ? Are they not reading this General Feature Request forum - which they host on THEIR discussion forum ?
  21. I meant the desktop client. On the mobile client, tagging, especially organising tags by moving them, is such a usability disaster that I'm not using it. (Count the number of steps for a simple thing like moving a tag in a different folder on the mobile client...)
  22. Handling of tags is still strikingly incoherent. The 'edit tags' menue (from the ... menue on the upper right) allows to serach for and create new tags, but it doesn't allow to organise tags by drag-and-drop within the tag hierarchy. You have to go to a different tag menu for that. Allow moving tags by drag-and-drop (just like in any other file/folder tree structure) also in the edit tag menu. (Generally, allow such basic functionality wherever tags are used in the UI).
  23. Imagine you used both notebooks and tags. Imagine you wanted to browse a notebook and look at the type of notes that are inside it. Imagine you wouldn't know a priori all the different tags you used within the notebook, but wanted Evernote to show them to you. Currently that isn't possible. You can filter for tags, but you when doing so you can't select from tags that are actually used in the notebook. If it was possible, you could could use tags to browse your notebooks and to find categories within them. Then gardening and harvesting from your digital notes would be much easier.
  24. If you have a new note containing no tags you can add tags to it by either clicking at the bottom of the note and adding tags in the tag area I know how to add tags. My request is to have partial tag completion for THIS add tag function. Just as the Webclipper's add tag functions does. I do not want to use 'edit tags' for adding tags. Way too complicated. My feature request is not about this. Same problem: it's not easy to remember where in the hierarchy tree a sub-tag sits. Partial tag completion allows you to select from already existing tags, and avoid creating duplicate tags with different names but same semantics. Again, as in the WebClipper's add tag box.
