  1. Hmm. I use those too, but the problem is that they get sorted haphazardly. I did a test once and some "important" ones, I forget which, but something like the checkmark or flag or pin are auto sorted to the bottom of the list instead of the top. I don't think your mockup would actually work like this screenshot if you sorted in Evernote - the entry with the checkmarks would be at the top or the bottom when sorting by title.
  2. True. We've pretty much had wifi everywhere except for fishing in Northern Ontario. Using data, though is an interesting thought. When we are out of country we get SIM cards so that's fine, but for out-of town travel, well my data plan is 25 MB (yup, you read that correctly). Of course I pay only $15 /month, and I only pay $5 more for each of these increments: 100, 250, 500, 1GB. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Yeah, that makes the most sense, plus way easier to implement I would think.
  3. Better get in line now and stay there for 10 years ๐Ÿคฃ
  4. Thanks gazumped. Yeah, you are the reason that I always keep my full database going - the idea of not being able to backup my full exb file makes me way too nervous. I know, I know... Was worth a shot to see if anyone had an ear on the door. One thing just occurred to me though. I know you use Filterize. Were you using it before you switched to Linux? Just wondering what happens when the notes are on the server only. Actually I suppose nothing happens because that's where Filterize gets the notes anyway! I'm just paranoid about changing things up. In my experience if you don't think through every single possibility before doing anything with software you can be in for major surprises. Thanks CalS. Answered all my question. And you are right - maybe I should just leave well-enough alone, at least until my Surface Pro can't handle the 20GB exb file. I just imported over 1,000 large woodworking files into my main account and took my surface pro into the kitchen yesterday to get my ice cream recipe and lo and behold it had to sync all those files! I got mad at myself and thought - that's it! I'm going small! But really, I *should* leave it alone for as long as I can. I mean I bought that to travel and boy would I be pissed if all my travel files were online only and I had no wifi! If I can I'll wait and see if Evernote ever implement different criteria for purging.
  5. Four questions about using "purge rarely viewed content". 1. I have a powerful laptop and another that isn't so powerful. I log in to the same Evernote account on both. I can set "purge rarely viewed content" on just the one laptop and it will not affect my other laptop correct? I mean Evernote settings are per device, not per account? 2. I recently discovered that exporting and re-importing notes loses all internal links used to refer to those notes. If I set my laptop to purge, do I lose any of the internal links (like in Table of Contents pages)? I guess I'm asking if the note comes back with the exact same address that was used in creating the internal links. 3. My Recipes notebook is shared with a free account that I use on a kitchen tablet. I have shortcuts to a few of my partner's recipes on the Android Homepage. If he clicks on the "Best RIbs Ever" Evernote shortcut on the device's homepage and that recipe has been expunged, what will happen? Will the link still work? Will it open within Evernote? or will it open via a webpage? 4. Most important, really... does anyone have any insight as to whether or not Evernote plans on allowing for different triggers for the purge other than "days old"? It would be great if I could just purge the stuff in an Archive notebook, or anything tagged with archive. If something like this is in the works, I may hold off on enabling this purging business because to be honest, I'd rather keep some older files than some newer ones tagged as archive.
  6. Some simple searches you can't do in Evernote: Due today OR tagged as priority 1: because reminderTime already involves an inclusion and and exclusion (to exclude all future timers), so ANY can't work with some other condition. [ANY reminderTime:day-0 -reminderTime:day+1 tag:1] Find Carrots, but not in notebook Recipes: You might want to search for carrots for their health information, or how to grow them, but you most certainly don't want every recipe that includes carrots as an ingredient! [you cannot exclude a notebook in a search]. And before it is suggested, you might need a recipes notebook (vs tag) because you share the notebook. Trips I took in July: if you add date formats like 20200713 in your titles because entering a dash (2020-07-13) is a pain on your phone you can't search for intitle:07 because it isn't at the start of the word. And even if you did use dashes, you couldn't find "-07-" because the "-" wouldn't be counted as an essential marker even with the quotation marks so your results would include everything with 07 including Part 07, $29.07, etc. intitle:๐Ÿ“Œ emojis are not searchable Files created or updated this week that aren't tagged yet: again, created or updated uses "any" so you can't add another condition to exclude anything [any: created:day updated:day -tag:*] Yes, there are workarounds for some of these. And yes, there are a lot more successful searches than not. Still, boolean is almost an expectation for a program that touts itself as a "search for anything" type of second brain.
  7. After troubleshooting a lot, I finally fixed an issue I was having with filterize and Evernote whereby reminders that I created for 5pm would display as reminders for 6pm. I live near Toronto (btw, Evernote, you have that listed as Eastern Standard Time - America/Toronto rather than Canada/Toronto - there are entries for Canada, so it isn't me being overly sensitive). If it's happening to you, set the timezone to Eastern Standard Time - America/New York. That's the only time zone I tested that worked. (go to Web version, Your account, Settings, Reminders, TimeZone) The nitty gritty: I think Evernote tried to take into account Daylight Savings Time for Easterners, which adds one hour to Eastern Standard Time between March and November. However, I think when they added that hour, they did it on Daylight Savings Time (which already accounts for it) rather than on all the various Eastern Standard Times in their list that I tested. The result is that 2 hours are added during DST instead of just the one. the filterize nitty gritty: I have a filter that extracts date and time and turns them into reminders. So 20200801 17:00 would give me a reminder time of Aug 1 2020 5 pm. Most Eastern Standard Time Zones available in the list (aside from the New York one) set my reminders for 6 pm instead of 5 pm.
  8. I use a Chrome extension called TabCopy. You can copy the selected tab or all open tabs. When I have a lot of tabs open, I hit TabCopy and paste the results in an Evernote note called "20200727 Browser History - [enter search subject keywords]. I do it whenever I have a bunch of tabs open for a particular topic or just when I want a clean browser. You can choose how to paste: 1. 9. This wouldn't work for me. I want to export some files from my archive and just leave them on the drive to be accessed in the future if I need them. Example: I research accommodations in Toronto every year for the Toronto Film Festival. When the year is done, I want to export all that research as enex files and if I need them at some point I can just re-import. I've exported things like freezer research, Santorini accommodation, etc. I keep a toc of the research projects and I export that as well (or I could keep that one file if it makes a difference). I mean one way around this particular issue is to just create a TOC on import before moving the imported files into a proper notebook. I could live with that. But in my particular case today, I imported 1,700 Woodworking files from an account I am closing, and those files were pdfs of magazines that began with a toc of articles in the magazine that were individual files. I spent SO much time on that, and now, stupid me, I see that it's all for nothing, having lost all those links. Lesson learned. And yes, I'll keep the original account as a free one, but there are now limits on file size in free accounts and many of those files go beyond it. I'm not tempted to recreate all those links, but if I want any of this stuff to work on Android I might have to. Note to self: stop being so organized and just spend 10+ minutes narrowing down searches instead when looking for relevant files. (Ever try searching for mission and chair in a notebook filled with 30 years of woodworking magazines?)
  10. I have auto-hotkey, I'm assuming I can do a similar thing, but, and it is a big but, one of the reasons I use links is to make everything easier on Android, where I always find it difficult to find anything (even when search results do come up fine the titles are all truncated and I can't distinguish between any of my notes!) . So I use Indexes a lot (TOCs) for that purpose. I can't be sure but I think auto-hotkey and things like PhraseExpress don't work on Android. I'll test this, but if you know for a fact it would save me some time: If I export some notes and then bring them back into the same account, do the links still work? I mean is it the fact of exporting/importing, or is it the fact of importing into a different account that kills the links?
  11. Well, it's a darned shame they could not go with "eco-sysem:noteID". It defeats the purpose of having multiple accounts on my end. I'm thinking I'll have to give up my 3 (pro) accounts and just stick with the one instead.
  12. I just always assumed that internal links meant just that: links that were internal to the eco-system. But when I exported every notebook in my 2nd account (pro) and imported into my 3rd account (also pro) none of the internal links worked. Since the links in the original account open internally (and not on the web) I just assumed that exporting the notes would preserve the links assuming all relevant files were exported along with the files including the links. In other words, I didn't think it mattered which account the eco-system was in, just as long as all relevant files were there. Is this a bug or just the way it works? And if it is just the way it works, then so much for creating some archives and moving them to a backup account (I rely a lot on TOCs with links to notes).
  13. Yeah. I lost a bit of work, but got most of it back. The only reason I panicked was because it looked like history wasn't working (the 'net connection error'). It worked fine after I waited a while. Odd.
  14. I tried undo, didn't work. Tried History, got a "no network connection", not sure why because the connection was fine. It did work about 30 minutes later though, so that's good. Scary stuff.
  15. v.6.25.1.9091 (309091) Public (CE Build ce-62.6.10954) Well that's a real pain in arse, Just spent the last 2 hours in a table where I pasted images in one column and descriptions in the other. I know that Evernote has issues with pasted images, so I very carefully synced after each paste. All was well. Had the images for 2 hours. Then I duplicated the note and voila! only 2 of about 16 images left, both in the copy and and original. All that research gone. Not happy.
  16. This is perhaps a bit silly, but when hovering over the announcement links at the top of the forum page the link's text colour is 'Evernote' green and is barely visible. Might want to modify that css. this is what it looks like without hovering and this is what it looks like when hovering.
  17. The web version seems to work correctly. I should stress that the problem occurs only when the page containing links is a result of a *search*. When picking a tag from the left panel, clicking on a link with one of the resulting pages works fine. When searching for the tag though (tag:sometag), then the links in resulting pages will not work unless the links refer to a page that includes "sometag".
  18. I thought I had an issue as well with links not working, and in a sense, it remains true: the links do not always work. But the reason for that is that filters could interfere. If I start a search with Tag:Today and one of the resulting notes includes an internal link to another evernote note, clicking on that link *will not open the note* if the note does not respect the original filter (e.g., it is not tagged with "today"). This is so incredibly annoying! Every time a link doesn't work, I have to open the page with the link in a new window, go to "All Notes" in the main window and then click on the link again in the page. I hope this isn't a "feature".
  19. Thanks for that clarification. I figured it wasn't random per se, but random in the sense of imagining people sitting around the conference table deciding that a red pin or red flag emoji isn't as important as a green checkmark or a heart, or that a simple double-quotation mark should be sorted well above a curly double-quotation mark.
  20. that's what I couldn't do. THere was no option. On the image there's a big + to add, but no - or delete option, and everytime I clicked on the image to see if options might come up it would add it to the post! Oh, you are saying there IS a minus, in the bottom right? I'll go see if I had one. Ok, I see it now. It ought to be more visible - it's really hard to see if you don't know it is there.
  21. Rob, I agree with you. Without using all the other ways to search, to the very least the order of results should be by most relevant first. I mean if a title has all 3 words searched for, why would it display near the bottom? I don't know. Makes no sense to me. The search in Evernote is a pet peeve of mine. The rules one must know is just too much. You must know that you can't exclude a notebook. You must know that you can't combine "and" with "or". You must know that you can't search with wildards unless they are at the end of a word. I'm sure there are other rules. It's just too cumbersome.
  22. I would never start a tag with an emoji because you can't search for it without searching for the emoji (and try doing that on your phone!), and when assigning it to a note you must again type in the emoji otherwise it will not show up. (I hate that assigning a tag only looks at the beginning of the tag.) For example, I have a tag called flag, and I tested with one called ๐Ÿšฉ flagtest. When adding a tag to a note and typing flag, I got this: And it's not like the emoji would bring the tag to the top of the list when browsing through tags beacause, as we mentioned above, some emojis go to the bottom! The best one can do is to save a search with it's name as the emoji so that it could take up less room in the shortcuts bar. (Another peeve is all the room taken up by the "search", "note" and "notebook" icons in the shortcut toolbar). Boy, my peeves are coming out today! Damn... Anyone know how to delete an uploaded image? I can't get rid of this one, and even when I delete it from this message it still shows:
  23. For others coming here to find out how to use it I created a how-to https://www.evernote.com/l/ANDzoZKcIWVIhrokhgQ4hqp6HlE_5ANjp54/
  24. It seems fairly random. Here's how my notes get sorted (by title) !word "word #word $word (word ***word ...word ..word .word [word 'word (curly) "word (curly) โœ… word โœ” word โ— word โ™ฅ word 1word 2 word numbers alphabet ๐Ÿ‘ word ๐Ÿ‘Ž word ๐Ÿ“† word ๐Ÿ“Œ word ๐Ÿ“žword ๐Ÿšฉ word ๐Ÿ›’ word
  25. Has something changed recently such that notes that begin with an emoji are now placed last in list view when sorting by title? It seems counter-intuitive. When you place a flag in your note title you either want it to display first, or you might expect the emoji to be ignored altogether thereby sorting by whatever you choose, but to put it last seems odd to me.
