The only option I know is this one in the EN settings on the Mac. It controls whether new notes created by other apps into EN should open as a new window (if checked) or not (if unchecked):

This is the correct answer. It works for Mac. Preferences > General > Uncheck "Open note linked from other applications in a new window"

Very long time Evernote user, and I’ve found that recently on iPad, it’s almost impossible to use. I have to force quit it several times a day (if it doesn’t crash on its own) to get it to work. Just freezes up whenever I try to do even the most basic things. I’m using the latest iPad Pro, so I know that my hardware can run circles around most laptops.

Anyone else experiencing this? it would be frustrating for a free app, but I’m an Evernote subscriber and rely on it for my work.

Evernote for iPhone has been slow as ***** for years. I’ve used multiple iPhones with it. Everything; search, note creation, note editing - all very very slow.
If I remember correctly this started happening from about 4000 notes upwards though I’m not sure why note database size should have an affect on the performance of the app once it’s loaded. I have been forced for years to use iOS notes app for quick access and jotting of lists and ideas. Evernote iOS is a non starter for this

  3. Setup Mac system wide Paste and Match Style (see article below).

    NB: you have to enter "Paste and Match Style" with that exact caps formatting. Exactly as you see it in this article. First time I entered it i entered "style" with a lower case "s" and when I tried copy and pasting from the web into an EN doc, the formatting was still there;

The early 8 versions were painfully slow, but it got fixed around 8.3 or 8.4 for me, I forget exactly when.  Anyway, best I can tell EN only downloads the offline notebooks when it is open.  So even though it has been weeks, you might try leaving EN open all night.  Set Auto-Lock to Never in the display settings on your phone, open EN, and let it cook all night.  If that doesn't help, then I'd try uninstall and reinstall, and bring your offline notebooks back one at a time.

I don't have much else.  Again, performance is great for me, but with only two small offline notebooks.  I started targeting offline notes back with IOS 9 which for some reason iCloud Backup wanted to include my EN data, even though the settings said no.  I didn't see the need to put a 15GB DB on iCloud so I turned off offline notebooks and started to put notes I knew I would need in a specific notebook.  The iCloud backup problem got fixed with IOS 11, but I haven't found the need to turn on offline notebooks again for my use case, I'm rarely without coverage of some sort.

I have the majority of my notes (5200) in only one notebook as I use tags to organise instead. This large Notebook is downloaded now though because i can see the little status bar next to the notebook has complete. EN is now faster but by no means as fast and convenient as Apple Notes for iphone. I just cant seem to use it for quick daily access to notes. I've reset, uninstalled and reinstalled the app twice now.

Are you saying if I create a new Notebook called "Daily" and only store my Today lists there, that this will provide me quicker access to these daily notes when using iphone?

I am using IOS 8.5.1 without any particular slowdowns.  Do you have any notebooks set as offline?  If you do it can take a while before the download to the device is complete, and EN could perform poorly during that time.

In which case, I would turn off your offline notebooks to start and see if that improves performance.  Then turn them back on one at a time.

Hi CalS. Thanks. Yes, the majority of my notebooks are set to Offline but they have had weeks to download to the device so this shouldnt be causing the slowness issue. Im using 8.5.1 also. Any other suggestions as to what the issue might be & why its so much slower that the previous version I updated from?

    thanks

You can rebuild the search index5a0520b37689f_ScreenShot2017-11-09at19_43_56.png.6bb46d26434c2b3e540b34dba0f257a2.png

Hold down the option key, click Help
then Troubleshooting > Recreate Full Test Search Index

Thanks. this did the trick with the mac app. My iphone app is also super slow; will this rebuilding of the search index on mac, also effect the iphone app? Or do I have to rebuilds its index separately. If so, how do I do that on iphone?

    thanks
