I'm not sure if it's possible to do AI cleanup in bulk at this point

Well, what I meant was that if AI makes a copy everytime it is invoked, over time, once ends up with tons of notes referencing that same things. I guess once AI copies a note, one could always decide to keep one or the other .. hence, lessening the overabundance of similar notes

I think the thinking that it doesn't generate a new copy is that there would be way too many notes to sort through .. So, the way it is, you can copy a note to play with, or you can decide if you want to keep it or not.. UNDO. Anyway, it's eventually going to be an add on subscription service that many of us will simply choose not to purchase

  3. Well, one big piece of feedback, without even seeing it is that it MUST not tidy CODE. But, I think it has already been gone over and over that it will not do anything unless the feature is invoked on a note. I have lots of snippets and even detailed notes on technical stuff. I don't think anyone would want their technical notes or CODE that is saved for technical purposes 'cleaned up.' A recipe or meeting note is one thing, but SAVED technical details is quite another thing. Anyway, the feature will probably be a subscription based thing, so easy to opt out of that totally. GPT is quite cleaver and useful as a technical assistant, as long as I keep things very separate from what I am saving. I think all the panic about "AI Cleanup" is that it will do something without our permission & knowing, which has been covered already.

..My only fear was/is it automatically cleaning up [things]

Yes, I can't have it cleaning up things .. precise info that is 5 years old automatically. But, this thread has assured me there will be plenty of options to opt in or opt out, and that it will only "clean" things one note at a time if opt in.. EN team, please remember that some pieces of notes are encrypted. Thanks to everyone for their input. I fell much better.

  5. Rest assured that our AI features will be opt-in only, meaning your data won’t be processed by the AI model unless you explicitly direct Evernote to do so. And if you do decide to opt in, you’re still in control of your data, and we continue to keep your data safe, secure, and private by implementing the principles of privacy by design and by default.

I suppose it will be for content assistance. I have precise stuff in many notes, order details, numbers, etc.

I've seen a demo. It looks very clever. It remains to be seen just how clever it is.

What we do know is that it will not be automatic. So if you don't start the process the AI will not touch your content. Also, when you run the AI you get a warning, explanation of what is about to happen to your data and the option to opt out. You can accept that warning so that it doesn't pop up every time or leave it as an extra check in the process.

Perfect, perfect, Thank you, thank you for this info.
I guess these will come a time down the road when we will all just have to accept Musk's quote "I just hope the computers are nice to us" when charlie Rose asked him what he thought the 3 biggest threats to humanity was. That was number 3, behind Nuclear threat and global warming ...

  7. Long time user of EN, here ..

Release Notes, 10.57.5 .. "This release contains important parts of the puzzle as we prepare to roll out the AI Note Cleanup feature. We hope you are as excited as we are about this powerful new feature."

Seems incredibly difficult to submit a ticket, spent way too much time trying to find this, and never did .. Anyway, That's not my concern for now. The latest release notes contain something that I hope EN will put a switch for .. The AI Note Cleanup. No, this is not a diatribe against AI. I love GPT. But, I don't want any AI messing with the over 3,000 notes I have in my EN database. I have them arranged for a reason.  I have notes that are 5 and 6 years old that have not been visited in many years. But, I need all of them to remain in place. They have information that I don't want automatically "cleaned up."  Please, put a switch for this, or reassure us that that feature will not mess with any notes we have or the arrangement of notes we have.

    Thanks.

  8. Maybe put this on the wish list, I know EN 10 versions are in early stages and important features have to get up to speed. Please put on the wish list toggles for at least some of the Auto-formatting in new Win clients. Getting kinda tired of backing up with the hashtag # turning everything into heading, when I am trying to make a note and code with Perl, Py. Thanks. Nice job so far on the EN 10 version ..

  9. Recently took the plunge from legacy EN to Win Desktop Client v10.28.3.
Encountering sync issues on a daily basis, working only from the Desktop Client
I got a 235 mbps direct connection, don't have any connectivity problems

I haven't tried to isolate conditions, but

Yesterday, I was working only in Desktop Client, I had only one note open for about an hour, which wound up with a sync conflict.

Today, I'm working for about 10 minutes in a note, just Desktop Client, this sync conflict more involved

Both notes are interlinked with various things to the Home Widgets, and so I will go between the Home widgets link to the note and the regular Notebook list (left Panel). It seems that the more links I have to and from the Home widgets (Tasks, Calendar links, etc.) .. into even Pinned Notes and Filtered Notes.. the easier it is for the EN sync algorithms to lag and not update and cause conflicts. So, my current working theory is that EN server can't keep up with so many link references to/from notes using Home Widgets and the regular GUI..

I was having fun, actually liking the Home Widgets concepts, until I keep getting these sync issues. So, I'm gonna operate for a while entirely outside the Home Screen, using EN 10 only from the regular Panels, like the legacy EN.. and see what happens. Disconnected all Tasks, disconnected Calendar, Disconnected all use of the Pinned and Filtered Widgets .. It seems the more a note interacts with the widgets and linked functions, the more conflicts happen ..

Also, the Android (12) Sort on stacked notebooks doesn't work

Oh, well.. so much for the EN engineers figuring out the perfect auto-sync

It doesn't need the former help menu options. The legacy version worked on its local database, and then synced it to the server. v10 is AFAIK more working like a browser, syncing directly. Many operations are running server side, not locally any more.

To get a hold on syncing issues, you can use the web client. It is a direct view on the EN server data. Just keep in mind it needs to refresh before it reflects the latest changes. Usually changes made on one of the clients show up pretty fast in the web client. The up sync device to server seems to work.

Usually it takes some time on the down sync leg, from the server to all other devices. I could not yet find a pattern - maybe it is waiting on some server side action first. This happens fast on occasion, but sometimes the server is in overload, and then it takes much longer. Just my 5ct ...

Thanks for all this info ..

    I think I just needed (1) good gripe session, moving from v6 --> v10
Overall, I do like the work flow and feel of EN 10 ..
Been getting used to it for a week now :)

EN web lacks the power of a desktop client
No context menus, keyboard functions (del, etc.), or shortcuts

Removing and rebuilding the local database is not for syncing - it is for correcting errors in the local notes, which can lead to all sort of mistakes. This is nothing new, legacy has similar repair functions (only a bit more granular).

    >> Yea, EN 10 lacks the Cntl+Help Functions of EN 6

... Where problems may occur is in syncing from the server to the clients.

    >> Yep, this is exactly where the issue comes in

Usually unsynced notes will eventually sync, maybe after several minutes, or maybe half an hour.

    >> I'm usually either setting at the PC or using the Phone
    >> So, I can live with this
    >> Esp, since a quit and start again puts everything in sync.

I'm gonna keep going with EN 10+ Desktop on my Win7 until the updates actually break something
I'm always pretty confident that none of my data gets corrupted even if the GUI breaks on Win7

I do like the new EN 10+, held out for a year with ver 6

    Thanks for your input

The sync should work failrly seemlessly. The time it takes for a clipped note to appear in the desktoop app can be a few seconds up to a minute or so.  Very occasionally it doesn't appear to arrive.  I generally find that quitting and returning is sufficient. @gazumped has offered another slightly more radical approach which typically works. Another option is hidden away in the Help | Troubleshooting menu. For Windows, Ctrl+R, will reload your data, Ctrl+Shift+R will force a reload.

If the issue persists when you clip new stuff then the File | Sign Out | Remove my Evernote data approach will repair your local copies of the data.

The Ctrl+R seems to resolve the lack of a manual sync in the Desktop Client ver 10
    Thanks for this tip ..

Hi.   To rebuild your desktop local database:

    • Go to File > Sign Out [name] from the menu bar.
    • Select the "Remove my Evernote data from this device" option
    • Click Sign out.
    • Restart your computer.
    • Sign back in to Evernote

Dang, wish I had thought of that .. Rebuild the dB every time I need a Note to sync from Android --> Win Client ;>

After using EN 10 ver for a week now, I see that the desktop sync issue is persistent ..
If the change/addition was introduced in the Win Client, then all is well
But, with things that originate from EN Web or EN Android, the sync to Desktop Client is not reliable ..
    It happens too often

Quit EN Win Client and Restart and the material is synced.
.. But, that doesn't seem real efficient either, quit and restart with each change

.. And that, dear Production Team is why we might not want to eliminate the manual sync from Desktop Client
.. Got a little over confident about the certainty of Sync from Web/Phone --> Win Desktop Client, did we ?

Also, I have seemingly made another mistake in finally surrendering my EN ver 6.25.1
I see the newest update EN 10.28 is not longer compatible with Win 7, citing "possible technical issues"

I will research how to reset everything back to EN ver 6.25.1 ..
I think I still have those installation files and the dB will probably sync just fine

Or, I will eventually have to just stop complaining and use the EN Web ver..
Give up the Desktop Client altogether ..

    <end of Rant> .. for Now ;>>

  14. After a year of avoiding the update, I am finally moving from EN v6.25.1 to EN v10.27.5
A little culture shock, but it all looks pretty workable

    Problem

Web clipping from FF (Win7) shows up in Android (12) EN & EN web version from my Desktop PC

But, it is missing from the Desktop Client and does not show up in All NOTES or the specified NoteBook
The Web clip does show up in the Desktop Client (HOME) under the widget Recently Captured > Web Clips
And it will show up in a global search

But, click on the associated NoteBook it is in and the clipped Note is missing
It is also missing from the All NOTES ..

There are also other inconsistencies between Web ver and Desktop ver (see img)

    Bug or what ??

  15. I have held onto using EN v6.25.1.9081 - Win7 Pro, SP1 Desktop CLIENT since last EN update around June 2020.
I have been viewing updating to EN v10.x for several months with much caution

    Q. Is EN v10.x versions and above going to continue to work with Win7 OS ?
I plan on keeping around my Win7 for quite a bit longer

    Q. If yes, is EN v10.x version a TRUE Desktop Client?
I thought I read that EN had moved to a web based portal through the Desktop Client
I am fond of keeping my local Client files and backing them up

    Q. Is there a date or plan for EN v6.25.1 versions to no longer work with ALL Android versions
I am running the EN Android ver 8.13.3

Thanks for any insight and input about moving from EN v6.25.1 to EN v10+

  16. My Win 7 Pro, SP1, EN Client v 6.25.1.9091 GA hasn't updated since June 2020

I used to check GA releases manually, but that forum link seems outdated
    https://discussion.evernote.com/forum/224-windows-desktop-product-feedback/

Now, I see EN for Mac & Win 10.2 is here ...

    Q. EN Client > Help > Check for Updates, shows no updates

Am I expected to update manually to a v 10.2?
Has EN client updates for Win 7 been discontinued ?

    Thanks

I submitted a comment to this thread a long time ago. I'm frustrated that we can't encrypt our EN databases on Google Cloud with our own security keys. It's not enough that the data is encrypted in transit. And it's not enough that EN databases are encrypted at rest by Google Cloud. Users need to hold the encryption keys. Otherwise, I can't put sensitive information in my EverNote notebooks. I sent an email to EverNote support yesterday pointing out the fact (100% certain) that the addition of encryption would triple their sales.

I fully trust the encrypted transmission and Google's could platform to keep data encrypted on servers. I don't think Google has ever had any issues with data breeches, encryption breeches. Encrypting an entire Notebook, or especially a note, rather than just selected text would be convenient, but It's just not that hard to select text > encrypt for the sensitive pieces. You can even (windoze) Ctl+A to select entire note, encrypt. However, it will not encrypt if there are images, attachments embedded.

This feature REQ has been around a very long time and my take is that EN development team just doesn't see encryption breeches as much of a real threat. Encrypting selected text is just for client side and I have my PC pswd protected in addition to encrypting selected sensitive text. Just my 2 cents worth.
