Yep, that's correct. I'm not saying you should continue to pay, I'm working on an exit strategy myself. (edit) - No worries. You're in a similar boat to me - I didn't come onto these forums until v10. Yeah, Legacy is a dead-end and I think is only useful to limp along while looking for alternatives.

It's my understanding that the lack of local notebooks is being spruiked as a feature, not a bug. As far as whether or not you're comfortable with having some information managed by Evernote as a SaaS platform rather than being able to control it yourself locally, that'll be something you'll need to decide for yourself based on your comfort level. I haven't bothered with running any notebooks locally, and have everything synched to cloud, but your risk appetite will be different to mine. You could also run "Legacy" (6.x), which I think still allows local notebooks. But that's a bit of a dead end, and is not being supported into the future. Yes, but if it stopps synchronising, you will not be supported. If it's a bug in Legacy, it will not be fixed. If you engage support, they will tell you to "upgrade" to 10. That's what unsupported means.

Evernote Legacy is not supported. Not for sync, not for anything. If you report a problem, they will likely tell you to upgrade to v10. Yeah, I agree. For many (including me) Legacy is probably the "least worst" option at the moment! Just trying to point out to people that while Legacy is there now, it's not supported, and the rug can be pulled out from under you at any time.

Yeah, that's my point, you don't need a bug fix, until you have a bug that's impacting you, then you need one. That's the way software works. My conclusion is to investigate migrating away. I am not going to wait out while they finish the development of the platform. Not saying that's what anyone should or shouldn't do - ultimately it's a risk assessment. I personally think the risk of trusting that EN legacy will keep running happily until v10 has had the features added back in and is stable is too high.

I'm not sure what you mean about Outlook? Thanks for your response, but I'm trying to get an idea of how to do what I'm currently doing in Evernote in OneNote, since Evernote is now broken and I am looking at alternatives.

Hello, it sounds like your use case may be similar to mine. Much of what I put into Evernote is scanned receipts/documents from a Scansnap scanner. How have you found that works with OneNote - are you able to give any tips? For instance, at the moment I have a Filing and a Receipts folder for each financial year, and I just dump them in there and tag as needed (eg. if it may be something I can claim on tax it goes into Tax 2021 folder).

Respectfully, you're not quite correct there. He in the process of open sourcing the code base, and he's still actively running the site - I don't expect it to go anywhere. Trying to sell the site was not about needing money, he was trying to make sure someone else was looking after it and he wasn't a single point dependency. Hence, open sourcing it. Joplin is looking like a front runner for me. Can I ask, do you use a document scanner? A pretty major part of what I do with EN is scan in any mail and receipts and use as a virtual filing cabinet/records management system. I'm trying to see if anyone has any feedback on this use case, although I might just have to have a play around on it and see how it goes.

These are good points, and I agree with you. However, depending on how much you rely on EN, I think trusting Legacy is fraught because they have indicated there will be no bug fixes or security updates - at any time a Windows patch or some other incompatibility could bork it, and you'll be effectively stuck. I've got about 10 months to run on my sub, but I plan on being off onto something else well before then. I think it's difficult to see how this could have been more poorly handled by EN, and even if they were to magically put all the missing features back into 10 and fix everything tomorrow (unlikely!), they've still lost my trust. And for something like this, which handles so much of my day-to-day life, I need to be able to trust it.

I for one find it useful to get others perspectives, and benefit from their experience. I'm in the same boat - I think v10 is fundamentally broken and I've reverted back to Legacy while I look at alternatives. I've been a rusted on (10 year) subscriber, but I've lost all confidence in the product with v10.

Keen to get a response here also. I've very quickly established that the new version is unusable for me, and installed the legacy version while it's either fixed, or I work out how to migrate to something else.

I'm afraid I'm in the same boat - even the most basic things I do (create notes, scan) have been altered in inexplicable ways to make them barely functional, or don't work at all. I also had the thing hang on me when trying to create a simple text note. I have gone back to the "legacy" (or what I would call the "working") version. Will keep tabs on how we go, but given the current state of the application I think I'll be looking at what to migrate to since it'll probably be less effort than getting the new application to work properly for me.
