Hi Pete,
I didn't take any steps per se. I just clicked the same links that worked fine in Legacy, and find that they no longer work in 10. Upon exploration, I found that Evernote seems to have translated the "/" characters to "%5c%" which cause the link to fail. If I manually change them back to / they work again, but we have thousands of file links, so that does not strike me a viable way to proceed.
All our machines are on Windows 10.
Then you muyst seek help from those who use Windows 10.
I've just copied a test file filepath from my documents folder and pasted it in Evernote 'File' menu and it looks like this:( and it works)

Well, we have finally reached the date that they pull the plug on Evernote Legacy, with still no solution to the local file/folder link problem? My links from legacy are still being converted to paths with / characters converted to %5C which fail in Evernote 10. For example file:///S:/Admin/Reference is converted to file:///S:/%5CAdmin%5CReference.
I am just confirming that there is still no solution to this other than manually editing all links?
Thanks!
I have no problems linking to files on my filesystem. Works a treat 🙂 I suspect you're using a different link algorithm.
Can you list the steps you have treid to take?
I have to state that my computer is a mac, but I'd be surprised if there was a different method on PC

Thanks for your good humour folks.
However none seem to refer to the verb 'distribute' in the T&Cs

Who owns the copyright of my music and photographs?
It says:
" by using the Evernote Service and uploading
Content, you are granting us a license to display, perform and distribute
your Content and to modify (for technical purposes, e.g., making sure
content is viewable on smartphones as well as computers and other devices)
and reproduce such Content to enable us to operate and offer the Evernote
Service. "I know some folk have already terminated their use of Evernote for those reaons.
What does the Panel think?

Thanks bcal, I figured it out with help from this panel a while back. 🙂
Now to figure out how to mark my query solved...

Maybe because it’s like that „since ever“. At least since there is an AppStore. I started with System 6 on a Macintosh SE - back then there were no sandboxes.
Basically the AppStore apps are controlled very similar to iOS apps. There everything is sandboxed.
Luxury! When I were a lad all I had was AtariST 🙂

@PinkElephant after many years of use ( 20+?), this is a brand new bit of Mac knowledge 🙂
No wonder it was so hard to find fix.
Many thanks 🙂

yes, as soon as I updated EN from the EN website it all worked well.Somehow I had been using the appstore version, naively assuming that they were identical.

@PinkElephant after v10 update I was never without v7 for the reasons I have previously posted ad nauseam.
I have since learnt that the update I got on the AppStore is significantly ( for my purposes) different to the natural in-app update.
Two hurdles:
1. I incorrectly asked, repeatedly about opening local files in-app, when I really meant 'revealing in Finder'
2. The appStore version wouldn;t get me 'reveal in finder'
All sorted now, thanks for riding shotgun on this 🙂

The app store version of Evernote is sandboxed (meaning the OS locks down its abilities more to use resources external to the app itself -- things like accessing external documents).
So you could also try deleting the App Store version and downloading Evernote directly from https://evernote.com/download if the steps above in that Apple support link don't help you.
OMG! THAT WORKS!
Thank, you Sir!
Pete.

Thanks again.
I've put this in the link section:`
file:////Users/petelemer2/Pictures/Saved Pictures/
And EN returns ( see attachment)
1. I don;t want to 'open' anything. I want to see the folder in Finder.
2. How do I adjust the permissions anyway?

I have to own up to misleading the panel by using the wrong terms/concepts.
However thanks to everyone who responded, which has helped me make some distinctions.
What I am /really/ looking for is the familiar ( to me, at least) 'Reveal in Finder'
This is what I've meant by 'open' which was/is incorrect. I dont't want files to open in EN, I want to go to the folder on my drive to access other material associated with a particuler audio.
Again, apologies. I hope this makes my need clearer.

Folders work for me again in10.60.4 and I think the buggy 59.5 on the Mac. I do covert any spaces in path to %20 although it has been suggested that it is not required.
Thanks David. Not sure what you mean about 10.60. I get " Evernote 10.58.8 is currently the newest version available."
My interest is raised 🙂
(later) Ahhhh, the app Store tells a different story. Now installing 10.60

How would this be as a workaround... If I've misunderstood the requirement then my apologies.
This is for a Windows system...
Create a shortcut on your computer desktop for the folder/directory you want to access from within Evernote.
Drag and drop that shortcut into a destination note inside your Evernote account. You can then open the file explorer window for that directory with a double click on the shortcut link inside Evernote.
Finally delete the shortcut on the desktop unless you want to keep it there for other reasons.
That's lovely, agsteele, I played with it on my Mac and even dragged the file, let alone the alias, and they opened .
However, It also opened all the other files in the Finder folder and...
I don;t want to open a file, I want to open a folder in the FInder, not in EN, and browse the contents.
Thanks for this good trick, I'll try to include it as I go forward
cheers

The links are made for files and their associated apps. I am not aware they are made to open folders as well.
The EN concept is a note works the same way as a folder. It is a Container able to hold all sort of content, plus links to files.
I tried to open a file, not a folder, and I got this:

The previous EN took me straight to any folder I wanted. The trick being /file://the filepath/

What does your link look like? It looks like you are putting in a link to the folder/directory path instead of the path to the specific file inside that folder/directory.
Yes, I am putting the link to the containing folder for the project, which includse DAW files, audio files, charts etc.
In my example the folder is here: /Volumes/T7_Projects/COMPOSITION/New Song Default Folder/IVORY :Destination3MEDITATION3/Meditation 3/Charts
Where the folder 'charts' contains pdf instrumental parts.

I'm on Windows and I can link to local files without all the typing that Pink suggests. Basically, in Windows, I drag the file onto the Chrome Omnibar. Then I copy and paste the link into Evernote using the add link, Control-K, function. BTW, I didn't come up this with myself - with Google-foo, I found a post from 2012 posted by JMichaelTX (I think on these forums but maybe somewhere else) that described this tactic. Tried it in Windows and, yay!, it worked.
Hope it works for you.
Hi Vincent, thanks for response.
I tried your procedure on Firefox, Mac, and sadly it didn;t work.
In any case, I need to access 50+ files and folders all over my directory and doing thos process requires one at a time, I guess

You can link local files, but you need to type part of the path yourself. Say you have this path to a file:
/Users/myusername/Desktop/myfilename.ext
In EN use the blue + menu to insert a link. Type a name into the Text field, and copy the path from the Finder into it. In front of the path add file:// and save the link.
file:///Users/myusername/Desktop/myfilename.ext
When you click on the Text (which shows in blue, indicating there is a link behind it) it will take you to the Finder and there to the file. With some file types it will open the corresponding app, and open the file in the app right away (for example pdf in Preview, Keynote presentation in Keynote etc.).
I treid this again, having tried it before and failed now, as then.
It's a folder with this filepath: /Volumes/T7_Projects/COMPOSITION/New Song Default Folder/IVORY :Destination3MEDITATION3/Meditation 3/Charts
In previous EN this procedure ( with which I am very familiar) would take me to the folder in Finder.
This is what V10 gives me:

You can download v7.14 here:
However I second @agsteele that the use of this version is not recommended at all. It uses an outdated syncing method which always syncs the whole note. This may cause syncing conflicts, as it has done since it was launched. V10 syncs instantly, and only the changes. Both don’t live well together.
Thanks Mr Elephant :-). have installed legacy today, which allows me to reach locations on my hard and SSD drives.
Is there any sign on your, or the panel's radars, that suggests we might be able to link to local files again? ( On Mac)

There was an update message that some users feel was somewhat misleading and they thought they were getting an updated v7 but actually got v10. Since I have been using v10 for sometime I didn't see that message.
I don't recommend use of v7 any longer. It seems that it has a very time limited existence. If you search these forums links to the old version are sometimes posted by others. If you need Legacy to keep you going until you find an alternative product then that could be a good way forward. If, though, you intend to transition to v10 eventually then I would recommend that you make peace with the change and discover how to work with the new product.
It took me less than two weeks to forget how I previously did things in Legacy.
As for backups, if you feel the need then you can manually achieve this backing up each notebook. Or you can automate the process with a GitHub project called evernote-backup or a commercial product called Backupery.
Thanks, agsteele, I need v7 as it allows me to link local files.

I hear you, sorry, all that happened to me but last year, and I've forgotten how I did it. I think I simply upgraded to the latest version. It sounds like that may not help you as you are already on the latest versions... I think?
I am an infrequent visitor here, count me as a nearly-newbie 🙂
