The same operation on my iOS app works fine. Since I don't see any other posts about this, I'm guessing there is something odd about my copy of Evernote or the way it is configured.
It used to give me 3 notes at a time, but now gives me 5.
Happens when I use the hotkey (cmd-n).
Happens when I use the File menu item "New Note".
So that eliminates sticky keyboards and faulty hotkey definitions. Even so, I made sure the hotkey was reset to the default.
It has been happening to me for years, through multiple version changes of both Evernote and MacOS.
