I am not a huge fan of the great amount of light grey text. It is hard to read for people who are not 20-year-old programmers using a huge screen. I get that it is useful for unavailable menu items, but text should be black for available menu items which is not the case for e.g. the Insert drop down menu. Also, notes snippet would be better readable with darker text with not only the heading in black.

This is exactly why companies hate sharing information. They put together a nice short video about how they are building a new feature. Somehow that then develops into Group Fear that something awful is going to happen. Before you know it, The Verge will have 500 words and a clickbait headline about it.

I have the current beta installed on my mobile and the search function has stopped working. I have uninstalled and reinstalled and still nothing. When I start a search it looks like it is trying but nothing comes back. Huawei P20 Pro.

Good step ahead in becoming more transparent to its users, in whats going on ahead. Thanks Ian and Team Evernote.

Hey folks, We've received some reports of users logging into the new Evernote Web and noticing their accounts are not displaying some notes and notebooks, even though these notes exist in their accounts and display in other devices. This is a known problem that we're addressing. If you run into this there are two solutions to resolve it: The simple solution is to log out of Evernote and log back in using a supported browser such as Google Chrome, Opera or Safari if you're on a Mac. If this doesn't resolve the problem for you, open the JavaScript console in your browser, type Cupboard.clear() and press Enter. After this refresh the browser page. We apologize for the inconvenience, but know that we're aware of it and working on a few things that will ultimately address this. Thanks,

It's not my style but I'm not getting bent out of shape: I have more important issues.

I believe the tone of the release notes is intended to make Evernote personable. This is definitely not unique to Evernote, and we've received a number of positive responses to them as well. Given that past sentiment on the board was that Evernote was not taking any interest in users and not communicating, I think any attempts by the company to have a more personal conversation is a good thing. I personally enjoy the tone. The notes still convey what was changed, just with a little extra fun.

Having done all things IT for many years, it is disheartening not only that this is going on for so long (and making mobile access unusable), but that the official answer is "install this app from a rando third party site / AWS Dropbox, then enter the password that rules your life". Is it legitimate? Most likely. Is it sketchy when messing with your most critical data? Yep. Did someone figure out how we will be notified when we can reinstall from the Play store?

Hi all! Evernote version 8.20 is now available on the App Store! We welcome any feedback, thanks! It was a day like any other. Until you tried to create a note in a shared notebook, and the app suddenly crashed. You fell to your knees, pounded your fists on the floor, and cried out in despair, “Whyyy? Why, in the name of all that is good and decent, can’t they just fix that?” We’ve got great news: we fixed that.

Hi all, Evernote is brilliant - could not navigate life without it!! A feature that I feel is dearly needed and would be tremendous to have is the ability to create an anchor point in notes. eg if I am working on a lengthy note and constantly referring to other notes at the same time I want the ability to specify a point where I am working in that note so I can go straight back to it. Also, when you open a note it goes straight to the start of the note. You always have to scroll down to the bottom of the note to add to it. Many thanks for any comments.

I feel on the biggest missing features is native support for Markdown. Please add native Markdown to Evernote.

With a bug this serious, Evernote should have rolled back code in its entirety to the previous version 1 hour after discovering the bug, in my opinion. If one uses Evernote as it was intended, designed, and marketed, it's simply unusable without a functioning search. One can't use a second brain if one has no idea how to find anything in it.

Just watched the videos and I'm really glad to see this open approach. The new management team continues to instill more confidence in me about the future of Evernote.

I did a quick test and when I changed the created date on a duplicated note it did move in the sort sequence. Check Tools - Options - Search and see if Search when note is updated is unchecked. Check the box if you want to update the view without a sync.

Dear Evernote, Why are your release notes always written on bring-your-child-to-work-day? Well, I hope they are! Or maybe you're running an apprenticeship and starting them early. Either way, is there any chance that somebody over the age of 12 could be given the job of writing the release notes? Because 'Take that, "Big Paper”!', and ' Yay, buzzwords!', and ' Seems obvious, right? We thought so too.', to me, albeit over the pond (cultural differences?), makes you seem like a bunch of unprofessional clowns.

Tried to use Notion exclusively for 2 months but now see myself going back to Evernote. The biggest challenge is getting information into Notion quickly. The organizational freedom in Notion is great, but I ended up spending too much time trying to figure out the best way to organize data as opposed to working with it. It did help me simplify how I use Evernote going forward, so in that regard it was a useful exercise.

Howdy. I just wanted to provide feedback on how amazing Evernote's tables are. I just used them for the first time, and am blown away by how quick and easy it is to add/delete rows/columns, and format colours. I wish every program handled tables this way. An example of not realizing how unnecessarily hard things are until you see someone do it the right way. Good work.

The database is an Sqlite database. Every time you type anything, that data has to be recorded in the database. Putting the database on a low speed interface is (as they say) a "very bad idea". Also, the drive it's on must support file locking - so network drives are also a "very bad idea".

REQUEST – It would be amazing to have a feature where an image can be selected, and when you right-click (ie, the same way you rotate it, etc.) there could also be an option to override the "largest smallest-dimension" algorithm and set that image as the note's thumbnail. A little background –– One thing I use EN for very heavily is as an artist database for my job. I really like having both a photo of the artist and an example of their artwork at the top of their card. However, when I'm scrolling through snippet or card view, it would be really helpful to have the image of their artwork always be the one to show up. This usually happens but there are a few times where the photo of the artist is used instead. I've read up on the algorithm that chooses the image with the "largest smallest-dimension" (PS, see what I did there with the hyphen? Way clearer that way.) and I am actually OCD enough to try to amend the file sizes to have the algorithm pick the right one. However, even this doesn't seem to work – it's probably me because I guess an algorithm can't lie, but even when I resize the images, it's still not choosing the right one. So my question is – why would that be happening? Could it be that once EN's algorithm chooses an image, it always chooses that filename even when the size changes? But what would be SO MUCH EASIER is my *request* – could there be an override option to the largest smallest-dimension algorithm (which I agree does work at least half of the time for me) to choose a thumbnail? I'm not talking some fancy thing in the settings where you tell EN how to pick your thumbnails – that sounds like way more work than it's worth. I just imagine, like I've said above, having the image you want to be the thumbnail highlighted/selected, then right click (in the same way that you can rotate an image, etc.) and have something like "set as note thumbnail." Please?? Thank you!

Android version: 7, Rom name: Superman-Rom, Rom Date: 23.12.17 Edit: My current version in evernote App under Settings / Support displays "current version is 8.9" This has been happening for about 2 weeks and today I decided to reinstall Evernote app and is still not working I have seen a similar problem in this topic with no apparently solution and I am not sure that is the same problem: https://discussion.evernote.com/topic/119365-search-not-working/ I type any search and a circle starts spinning like searching but that goes forever. Also, In the left menu, the syncing animation that displays a circle of 2 arrows running clockwise is displaying "OFFLINE SEARCH INDEXING" The main purpose of evernote is to search and if it does not search what is the point of having it. I went to the web and in the web works fine, and in the Windows desktop platform also works fine. Thanks for any hint to solve this big problem.

I recognize Evernote is used in many different ways, but personally I think that the power of Evernote tags is in filtering. IOW, instead of trying to define a structure such as "Taxes", "Taxes-2018", "Taxes-2019", simply have tags "Taxes", "2018", "2019". Then, when you are searching for tax-related notes, filter first by the tag "Taxes" and then add to the filtered search which year tag corresponds to the search you want. The power of this is that the year tags "2018", "2019", etc. can also be used as filters for completely different searches. For example, you may have a tag "Journal" or "Correspondence" with the year tags to helpfully categorize which years those notes fall under. So instead of trying to figure out some complicated tag structure like… Correspondence Correspondence-2018 Correspondence-2019 Journal Journal-2018 Journal-2019 Taxes Taxes-2018 Taxes-2019 You could simply have the following list of tags… 2018 2019 Correspondence Journal Taxes Note: I use special characters before certain tags for major areas of work, life, etc.

Why are there always a few people who feel compelled to tell us what to do? No one here is driving off a cliff, but some of us do have some valid concerns we want to express. If Evernote did not want feedback, then they would not have posted the video in this forum.

Using Evernote on a Mac with dark mode enabled looks good, but it's practically impossible to find the cursor which is a very thin, vertical blue line on a dark grey background. Help us 50+ folks out and make it easier to see please!

On Macs, only the metadata is stored in the database (LocalNoteStore.sqlite) The note contents and attachments remain in the file system, a separate folder for each note.

As I read it, it is Open Source so basically free to use. They just ask for a small contribution in the range of 5$, which for me is sort of a one-time without being a real purchase, because no contract will go with it. But this leaves the option to contribute more or less, whatever you like. Concerning the confidentiality, it all boils down to whether you trust the other party or not. Since it is open source, you can at least read the code and find out if it contains any problematic parts. Or you can check in the internet for others that have looked it up already. Open source for this reason is usually more trustworthy than proprietary code nobody can check.

Search function doesn't work like it used to. For example, search for 'Alphabet Inc' yeilded results from within newspaper clippings (images) saved to my Evernote but fails to highlight the text. On my Mac it does

I've used Evernote since the beginning. I started paying premium street a couple years. I've had a Synology NAS since 2012. The new Note Station is pretty amazing! AND there's a *DIRECT IMPORT* from Evernote to Synology. Oh, and Note Station it's "free", "unlimited"storage, and you can have as many users as you want for no cost. Is it perfect? No. Is it for everyone? No. But it's darn good replacement that fits my workflow. If you have a Synology, you NEED to at least try it! Sorry Evernote, but I doubt I'll be back.

Some counterpoints to your response: I suspect you were slower to ask for help. I asked for help, and over a week went by before I received a reply like you did. I suffered with the bug for 2 weeks in disbelief that it was taking so long for Evernote to act, then waited another week after contacting support before this solution was offered. The path to get to this workaround was painful. I was first offered no solution ("we're working on a fix"). After repeatedly asking for a previous version's APK or a refund, I was eventually offered links to a third-party APK download site by an Evernote employee! I understand software development too. Reverting to a previously released version immediately was (and still is!) the best solution. After all, support is offering exactly that to users. Within hours of discovering this bug and understanding its impact, Evernote could have simply re-released the previous APK as the next update. They still can, and should. They can then work on implementing a bug fix into the next release version at their leisure. I understand that new release development requires testing, etc. However, a re-release is not the same. Reverting code to a previous version is technically simple, and requires no additional development or testing. It's simply like an undo-change. Put another way, it's like simply delaying a release further, or pulling an unauthorized release. It doesn't require business analysis, QA, or dev ops, in more than a trivial way. There is no excuse for Evernote eliminating a mission-critical feature from what is arguably their most important platform, for an entire month (and counting). I don't care how much they innovate their software, or how much that innovation will be delayed by doing what I described above. If one can't search, the app is nearly useless to a large portion of users. New features and rapid development are nice, but they are not so nice as to allow the software to become useless to users for a month. So, I quite disagree with your post.

Hey Everyone, Just wanted to give you a quick update on this. We've been seeing an increase in search issues reported on Android and our development team is aware of the problem and currently working on getting a fix for this out asap. I know how inconvenient this issue is to many of your workflows but we appreciate your continued patience and understanding while we work on releasing the fix.
  42. 2 points
Response (names removed): Hello there Name, Thank for bringing this to our attention. We are currently aware of this issue, and although I don't have an estimated date of when it will be resolved, I can assure you we're working diligently to fix it as soon as possible. If you would like to roll back to a previous version of Evernote that did not contain this issue, please follow the below steps: Before uninstalling Evernote for Android, make sure to copy the contents of any unsynced notes somewhere outside of the Evernote app. Any unsynced notes (notes marked by red/green corners) and photos are deleted when you reinstall the app. To save any unsynced photos to your Gallery, tap the options menu (three dots) and select Save to Downloads. Then follow these steps: Open the Play Store Search for Evernote, choose it, then tap Uninstall Restart your Android device Once Evernote has been uninstalled, please click on this link to download version 8.8.1. If you can't use the version from the previous link, then try this link. Please know that by going back a version, you will be exposed to some bugs we fixed already, the most noticeable of them being not able to login to your Evernote account in more than one Android device at the same time if you use two factor authentication. For now, I will close this ticket, but if you have any other questions please reach out to me and I'll be more than happy to help. Best, Name. Customer Support Representative

A thing that's been bothering me in this great service ever since I started using it 2 years ago, is that it is not possible to set a sorting order for a specific notebook. To me this seems very basic, so I was very disappointed that it's still not available in the new beta. I mean, am I the only one who wants my receipts ordered by date and my recipes ordered by title? My family photos ordered by date and my art photos ordered by title? I do sincerely hope this can be implemented!! Once again, thanks for the great software.

OK quick fix here - re-copied and edited from earlier in this topic: Link to older version: https://androidapksfree.com/evernote/com-evernote/download-old/evernote-8-8-1-1082393/ For this, download the apk and tell Android to install from this "unknown source." Different Android devices/versions may do this differently, so you're pretty much on your own. And HERE is how to disable auto-update for EN, and assuming that auto-update for all apps is already turned on: 1. In the Play Store, search for Evernote, and have its Play Store page on your screen. 2. Touch the 3 vertical dots at top right. 3. Un-check Enable auto update. That's supposed to do it. Note that if you go into the Play Store and select My apps & games, EN will still come up as an update choice. Be sure to not select "UPDATE ALL," and only pick the stuff you want updated. If you don't go there "manually" if auto-update for all apps is on, EN should still not auto-update.

I have to agree too. They broke the search in a note keeping app and just don't seem to care that one of the most important features of such an app is now unusable.

There is a strong demand for a dark mode. The software I use today is dark mode. Only Evernote is not used. It is very painful to use.

+1 on this. What happened?! Presentation mode used to be sexy - people were impressed by it. Now I'm embarrassed to use it - I'm going to put this into Keynote now. Please fix! I used this feature all. the. time.

If Windows 10 doesn't support dark mode, as purported by several Evernote replies to this topic, then how is it possible to configure the left panel as dark in the Windows client? Tools > Options > General > User Interface > 'left panel theme dark'? Perhaps Windows 10 only supports dark mode on the left vertical 1/5 of the screen? Indeed, this is a Windows OS design limitation. We're not getting honest answers from Evernote. The honest answers are: 1. This isn't a priority for the development engineers, who have other 'cool' features to pursue regardless of what users are asking for. (I have seen it 1000 times in SW development.) 2. We don't care because we don't need to. 3. See #1.

I can't believe this is still a problem FOUR years later. Evernote is supposed to be our filing cabinet where we can store all critical information to have available at our fingertips. Can we at least find out why it is a problem and why it can't be implemented?
